Hardware :: 56" 1080p Samsung Not Recognizing Mini - DVI To VGA / Black MacBook 2.4GHz
Jul 3, 2009
I bought the correct Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and 3.5mm audio cable for my black macbook 2.4GHz in order to project and watch movies, etc. When I hook everything up, the MacBook display settings recognize another display immediately. However the Samsung doesn't see anything connected into the VGA input. I know its not the Samsung HDTV because I had an '08 HP laptop hooked up just fine a few months ago. Should I try different resolutions? I searched the forums for awhile but nata.

Why can't you play 1080p video on a macbook pro or mac mini? This means you have to sync files which are over 1GB in size one at a time to the new ipad just to view them and this takes a long time. When at home, I use itunes via a macbook pro/mac mini for all my multi media connect to my TV, now I have GB's of files I cannot watch at home. Â
It kind of defeats the object, there is not enough space on an ipad to hold much HD content, certainly I will not be buying anymore HD video files from itunes for this reason. I am dissapointed to have wasted money on 1080p videos that I have to sync one at a time to a new ipad just to watch them. The new ipad screen is great but surely we need the option to watch 1080p HD video on out TV too? The crazy thing is that itunes/quicktime can easily handle 1080p video which is not from the itunes store so Apple must be deliberately restricting itunes bought 1080p HD video to the new ipad.Â

mine is always around 1800 rpm regardless of internal temps. i spiked both cores of the cpu to 100% for 5 minutes (cputest), and the cpu temp got up to 164F (73C) from an idle temp of 100F (38C), but the fan was still 1800 rpm. i played a bunch of 1080p trailers simultaneously to give the gpu and hdd a workout while transferring a few gigabytes via wifi. fan still stayed around 1800 rpm.
during the 2 hours while the migration assistant was doing its thing, the top of the mac mini got fairly hot. not scorching hot, but noticeably warmer than idle, while the fan was still quiet as usual. i could feel really hot air coming out of the rear vent, but the fan wasn't blowing harder than usual. i'm assuming it was running at 1800 rpm even as the hdd was generating some massive heat. this is very troubling to me. has anyone seen the fan increase in speed as temps rise in the latest mac mini (macmini4,1)?

I just bought my first Mac - Mac mini 2010 (2.4GHz) with 2gigs of RAM and I have to say that it really isn't enough for me and I'd like to ask you, skilled professionals what upgrade should I make, to 4 or 8gigs.
I use Mac mini for normal things - text, email, internet, 1080p movies and sometimes also web delepment (Photoshop + Dreamweaver) and virtual Win7. And those 2gigs are used up really really fast.
What do you think, are 4gigs for those things fine or should I rather buy 8? Problem is that I read a lot of troubles with 8gigs of RAM on new Mac mini (troubles with boot etc.) and since I'm from Czech republic, I don' t have access to Crucial or any other 100% Mac compatible makers, just ADATa, Corsair, Kingston,...

I plan on purchasing the new Mac mini, I'm wondering if it's worth my money to get a 2.66GHz processor?
Also, in checkout I'm able to upgrade to 4GB of RAM for only $90, is there anywhere cheaper? Or that's about as low as it goes?

My current Mini (1.83 ghz dual) skips frames when playing back 1080P QT MOV files.
I use the Mini as a DVD player / HTPC. Only recently started taking 1080P video and was bummed at skips on big screen playback.
Has anyone tried playing 1080P video on the new 2.26 ghz model?

I attempted to google this however I got some mixed results. However I do think that most of the reviews that I was reading was from older Mac Mini models.
I want to get a Mac Mini for a Media Center for my TV. I have alot of iTunes HD TV shows and movies, as well as various Blu-Ray and Downloaded 1080p .mkv rips. I play them fine on my Mac Pro w/ VLC... was wondering how the Latest Gen Mac Mini handles it?

I have recently purchased a brand new 2.3Ghz Mac Mini to act as a home theatre PC which is connected to my receiver via HDMI & running Plex.In the MAC OSX display settings I have the resolution set to 1080p & then launch Plex to watch my media & everything is fine. The issue is whenever I turn the receiver off (Mac Mini remains on) and then come back to watch my media, the Mac Mini has automatically reverted its resolution to 720p (Plex is still open). For the life of me I can't figure out why this is happening. Mac Mini is set to never sleep, no screen saver or other hibernation like settings are enabled, it's just got me perplexed as to why it's downscaling itself!Â

Just bought a Samsung 2333SW Monitor and plugged it into my Mac Mini. The screen looks like the monitor was dropped (psychedelic) when the desktop is displayed. It worked fine on my 17" Samsung monitor, but not the 23".
I exchanged the monitor, and its not the monitor. I was told its the driver on the Mac. I cannot find any driver online for my Mini through Apple, or even at the Samsung sites.

So I got 1080p to display on my plasma. The only problem I have is that when I try to run iTunes visualizers (any) it switches to 1080i. When I stop the visualizer the computer goes back to displaying 1080p. Anyone know a way to keep it on 1080p all the time?

When using bootcamp with Windows 7: My 1080p output is shrunk as if it has the wrong overscan settings. I am using a direct HDMI cable and the display works just fine when using OSX Lion. I tried updating the AMD Catalyst software directly and there is no change. In fact: it's as if the catalyst didn't even install. I can't find the control panel anywhere. It's not the monitor, I tried all the auto adjustment stuff. Plus, again, it works in OSX It's not a cable. I tried switching them. Other computers display correctly to the monitor (Acer, 1080p)Â

I have a bunch of 720p MKV files. I have my mini connected with HDMI to my 54" Panasonic 1080p. I set the resolution on the mini to 1080 and I play my MKV files...
When I set my resolution on my computer to 720p the movie takes up almost the full screen before i select full screen mode. When I set the computer resolution to 1080p and play the 720p media the movie screen only takes up about 3/4 of the screen until i set to full screen mode.
Do I lose any quality or get extra quality having my mini res at 1080p but playing 720p media?
Is the NVIDIA geforce capable of upscaling 720p to 1080?

i just bought the macbook alu. w/ the mini displayport, i tried to plug it directly to my samsung 1080p hdtv with the Mdport to vga cable but the tv didnt display anything. so i searched the web to find other solutions (Mdport to dvi -> dvi to hdmi cable), but for me that means buying 2 other cables so i was wondering if i could use this route: mini displayport to vga -> vga/dvi-i adapter -> dvi-i/hdmi cable -> 1080p hdtv? with this example, i would have to buy only the dvi-i/hdmi cable since I already have the vga/dvi-i adapter (my old MSI 6600gt one) so hows that sound? thx for giving me the answer ASAP cause I need to make a surprise presentation for my boy!

I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my father has 17", both 2007 model.
I bought a new Samsung XL2370 external monitor (1920 x 1080) for my notebook. When I connect it to the 17" model, it works fine and gives me the full picture.
However, when I connect it to my 15" MBP, even at 1920 x 1080, the display gets cropped on two sides with black bars.
If I change the resolution to 1680 x 1050, then the whole screen is filled. But if I put it to 1920 x 1080, this happens.

Do any of you have a sensor-type looking thing on your iMac's? It's on the black strip around the edges just above the black Apple Logo.See my picture for what it looks like (you'll have to look closely to see it):I'm interested to see your responses of what it could be/is. I've only had the machine for going on for 3 days now so I'm new to the whole iMac thing.

I have plugged the HDMI cable into the back to the Samsung in the HDMI/DVI port. When i which the source to the correct HDMI input i either get a message saying "no signal" or, sometimes briefly, "mode not support"

I love my new mac-Mini refurb and new Samsung DVI 21.5 monitor. My MacGeek score went from 341 on my 2001 466 mhz G4 Digital Audio model to 3044 on the new 2010 2.26 base Mac-MiniStartup is unreal fast... Applications move so much faster as it should be! *Hard to believe that this little box is 10 times the CPU speed and 6 times the hard drive @ 25% of the price in 2000.

A friend has bought a Mac mini server by mistake (yes really, he thought he was getting a standard mini) for HTPC use. He's hit an immediate setup problem, because it's not recognizing the keyboard from his G4 that he wanted to use while he waits to get a wireless keyboard. Is there any reason why it wouldn't recognize the G4 keyboard? Could it be in any way related to the fact that he's running the server version of OSX rather than the client?

I have a Mac Mini (late 2009) and I have connected two monitors via a VGA splitter. Both screens are working and displaying the image of the screen, but I want an extended desktop and when I try to change the display preferences it says "the arrangements pane has been hidden because you only have one monitor connected".Detect displays does not work, and neither does restarting the computer/turning screens on and off.

I have the standard 13" aluminum macbook, and I was looking into getting the 'Mini DisplayPort to VGA' adapter to connect my 22" Samsung monitor. On the Apple website, I have seen nothing but horrible reviews about the connection cable, saying that it exclusively does not work with Samsung brand monitors and TV's. On the other hand I only see good things about it connecting to other devices and monitors.
Can anyone shed any light on this? It's already ridiculous that i have to pay the 30$ price for this cable just to use an external monitor, the least I can do is know that it will for sure work.

I also took the time to search on this topic and couldnt find anything related
heres the sitch!
Computer = Mac Mini 1.42 model
TV = Samsung TXR3079WH HDTV
DVI to HDMI cable connected to a Samsung HDTV TXR3079WH
the tv doesnt come with dvi connectors so i opted out and purchased the dvi-hdmi cable. i hook it up to the samsung tv and then boot it up and nothing appears on the screen. it just freezes the television to the point that i cant even change to a different source input.
I tested it with different resolutions (i had an LCD next to me to interchange with) and neither resolutions worked. I then thought it might be the DVI-HDMI cable so i hooked it up to my Comcast HD Box and it worked perfectly fine. I then took the Mac Mini to a neighbors house and hooked it up to his 47" Panasonic HDTV and the Mac Mini fired right up and worked beautifully on the Panasonic HDTV using the same cable. Went into System Preferences and under diplays it actually said "Panasonic HDTV" so it recognized the tv. and the resolution automatically reset itself to 1900x1200. Then afer seeing that the Mac Mini was capable of this and all the settings must have been right, i walked back over to my house and the initial problem started again. No Picture on the Samsung HDTV. After all this i found out that the DVI port on the Mac Mini works, The DVI-HDMI cable and the HDMI port on the back of my Samsung TV works as well. So i think it might just be a samsung driver issue? dont know how to resolve this issue.
