Software :: Way To Tell Eudora To Download From The Server?

Jun 8, 2008

After a recent corruption of my In box (never happened until Leo ........ I know I know, but I really, until now like Eu) I changed prefs to using old style .toc's and leaving messages on the server for 15 days.
Even with these changes my In has once again gone corrupt.
Removing the .toc and "forcing Eu to rebuild did nothing at all.

I tossed the In and the .toc and reset the server (my messages are left on the server for 15 days under Eu prefs.) to show all messages unread, thinking that and a new In box, and Eudora would download all the messages on the server.

So is there a way to tell Eudora to download from the server anything that's there?

OS X :: Setting Leopard Mail Save Attachment Button To Ask Location?

May 20, 2009

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard Mail, and the save attachment button has new behavior -- used to be it would always ask which directory to save attachments to; now it automatically saves them in the download folder in the dock, and I have to drag them individually to the right folder. I can't find an option to change to the old "always ask" behavior.

OS X :: ICal Crashes - Full Of Errors In Snow Leopard?

Sep 27, 2010

I waited a long time to upgrade my MacBook to Snow Leopard, mostly because I didn't really need any of the speed increases or other updates, and because I remained concerned about having new bugs in my system. I was always happy with Leopard and never had any issues. I finally did upgrade to SL, and iCal is giving me hell. Its tough to explain the problems that its causing. Basically, the boxes get out of alignment (see attached screenshot), then stuff disappears, sometimes will come back if I click forward a month and then back. If I do this more than one or two times, it just straight up crashes. It is incredibly frustrating. Has anyone else run into similar iCal issues? I feel like a calendar program is one of the more straightforward things Apple has to work on, so I am really surprised that out of everything, this is the biggest upgrade problem I have run into.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Mac Storing Copies Of Every Email Attachment On Hard Drive?

Mar 8, 2012

I am putting this under OS questions because I assume it is an OS thing. The computer is a Mac Mini, I also have a Mac Pro workstation. I am consolidating all photos on to one external drive I plan to duplicate and remove to a safe deposit box, returning it occasionally to update it. My wife tends to store stuff on the stystem drive of our home mac mini (which is only 120gb) so I did a search of "Macintosh HD" looking for anything with ".jp" in the filename.

I soon realized most of these were in a folder that could be generically described as "USER>>Library>>Mail>>IMAP-(Account)>>GMAIL>>" with several layers more depending on when it was sent. It seems every email is being physically stored on hard drive, including attachments. This has turned into many GB of stuff, and explains some of our system drive congestion. How do I stop this? Note that I do not want to stop iCal from syncing my Gmail calandars, I just don't need mail stored on HDD, as it stays in Gmail server forever anyway.

Note also that we both sign in as same user, and I use gmail and it does NOT do it for my account, only hers, so I assume when I set up system it asked for an email and I put in hers. She uses browser based mailing, so I don't see why this is happening, unless mail just updates anyway. This is cluttering up my system drive unnecessarrily, and seems an odd feature. How do I safely eliminate files that are there (not just pics but anything else that is unnecessary) and how do I keep it from doing it again in the future?

OS X :: Errors Installing Leopard On Completely Erased Hard Drive

Aug 12, 2009

I'm about at my wits end. I would say I have a harddisk failure, but it passes every diagnostic I can throw at the thing. My problem is that I erased the main drive in my mac (been booting from an external hd) and I'm trying to install Leopard on this drive. The Leopard install starts, I'm able to choose the disk, and tell it to erase and install (or just install after erasing the disk externally). The installer starts, gets about 30-40 minutes in and then just plain stops because some package or other (seems to be different every time) is corrupt. My only option is to reboot and try again. I've done it three times now and am starting to feel rather stupid. Is there a known issue here that anyone can direct me at? I didn't see anything snarfing around the forums, but that doesn't mean I could've just plain missed it. I've just finished running tech tool pro 4 hardware tests (drive controller, etc.), surface scan, disk utilities erase and verify hoping it would tell me if there is a disk problem brewing. So far all the tests show green. I decided to try and hit the thing with something that writes to every imaginable space on the disk, so I ran erase free space from disk utilities. I plan on trying again after that finishes.

OS X V10.4 :: Can't Open Email Attachment

Mar 18, 2012

Received an email attachment jpg (777 KB) which was clearly visible in the message window as well as when I opened the attachment itself -so no problem. However I needed to have some alterations made to this file (business card) I duly received two consecutive attachments, which were the alterations to my business card (the 777 KB file. These two files were now 1.3 MB and 1.4 MB in size, they appeared in the message window as large black images (nothing visible) which I was unable to open.As I did not know the problem, suggested to the sender to perhaps reduce the file size, as I was able to open the original file. The sender re-sent the re-sized file now reduced to 744 KB, similar in size to the first one, again appears as a large black image. Now we are at a stalemate, the sender says he has four computers and the images appear fine on all four

Software :: Receiving GIF Attachment Does Not Forward?

Dec 22, 2009

I am regularly receiving GIF attachments from friends by email that show some nice and funny animated cartoons on my laptop and/or iPod touch email.

But when I try to forward them, either from the iPod or from the MacBook, they arrive at the destination showing a small cross instead of the animated cartoons?

Same thing happens when I try to forward a mail that I receive as an HTML page. It will only forward as a text page full of unreadable scripts?

Could someone please tell me if I am missing something in my System to allow me to forward those mails exactly as I receive them?

OS X :: Use Specified Program To Open Mail Attachment

Aug 6, 2009

I have a mail attachement with the extension .gem, and I would like to use that attachment as the argument to a java .jar program. I've figured out how to start the java program using a shell script like this:
#!/bin/bash
java -jar /Users/geoff/Programs/program.jar $1
If I name this script program.sh and change the permissions to allow execution, I can successfully run the program by typing this in a terminal window:
./program.sh filename.gem

However, when I try to open the attachement filename.gem from mail, it won't let me use program.sh to open the attachment. The OS seems to make a distinction between a file and an application that is independent of the execute permission on the file. After doing some reading about this, I tried Automator. One of the Automator actions is to execute a shell script, so I added that action to my Automator project and typed in my command:
java -jar /Users/geoff/Programs/program.jar $1

I also changed to input from options from "stdin" to "argument". I then saved the Automator project, and was able to associate that project with the .gem file attachment from mail. The java program started, but behaved as if the $1 argument was not included. (Perhaps I just need to leave out the "$1" in my Automator command, trusting Automator to insert the argument in the proper place. If that theory is correct, my program is interpreting the text "$1" as an argument, which would be consistent with the behavior that I'm seeing.) I've seen other suggestions to use AppleScript, but it seems to me that there ought to be some simple way to do this. (I just got a Mac, by the way. I was able to do this in Windows using MIME type definitions and a .bat file. The difference is that Windows allowed me to consider program.bat as an executable, but Mac OS doesn't consider program.sh to be an executable.)
