Apr 12, 2012My email attachment in word was grayed out. I am very concerned that google chrome somehow changed my settings. I did not opt for google chrome or gmail to be my default email --- not ever! Yet when I opened up my email preferences, gmail was chosen. I had to shut down after I rechose Mail as my primary email. OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Mac Storing Copies Of Every Email Attachment On Hard Drive?
Mar 8, 2012I am putting this under OS questions because I assume it is an OS thing. The computer is a Mac Mini, I also have a Mac Pro workstation. I am consolidating all photos on to one external drive I plan to duplicate and remove to a safe deposit box, returning it occasionally to update it. My wife tends to store stuff on the stystem drive of our home mac mini (which is only 120gb) so I did a search of "Macintosh HD" looking for anything with ".jp" in the filename.
I soon realized most of these were in a folder that could be generically described as "USER>>Library>>Mail>>IMAP-(Account)>>GMAIL>>" with several layers more depending on when it was sent. It seems every email is being physically stored on hard drive, including attachments. This has turned into many GB of stuff, and explains some of our system drive congestion. How do I stop this? Note that I do not want to stop iCal from syncing my Gmail calandars, I just don't need mail stored on HDD, as it stays in Gmail server forever anyway.
Note also that we both sign in as same user, and I use gmail and it does NOT do it for my account, only hers, so I assume when I set up system it asked for an email and I put in hers. She uses browser based mailing, so I don't see why this is happening, unless mail just updates anyway. This is cluttering up my system drive unnecessarrily, and seems an odd feature. How do I safely eliminate files that are there (not just pics but anything else that is unnecessary) and how do I keep it from doing it again in the future?

Mar 28, 2012I have a lot of multipage pdf's that I need to reduce in file size. They are scanned pdf's so no actual editable content.
If i select a page and 'save as' I can save to jpeg where I can reset the dpi of the page (currently 300dpi). This is Fine, but I need to do it to all the pages of the pdf. If I select all pages 'save as' will only save out one page and not all.
If I print and choose 'pdf to jpeg', It will save out all pages but I don't get the ability to reduce to dpi and the output jpgs are still huge. Is there a way to save to pages out in one go to jpeg where I can adjust the dpi setting?
I have tried using the reduce file size option, but the resulting pdf has lost too much quality and is unreadable. Once I have the reduced jpegs it's easy enough to reimport into preview and save as a pdf.Â

Feb 17, 2012Fairly often I'll change focus to a different app by pointing at it and tapping on the trackpad, or command-tabbing to it, the title bar will change to show the app I selected is now active, and I'll start typing...and the typing goes to the previously active app. Say, for example, I'm looking for something in a finder window, then command-tab to firefox, then command-w to close a tab. Instread of the tab closing the finder window closes. Yet, firefox is the active app. It's not a matter of slowness in the interface, either, I can be looking at firefox, see the title bar is active and the traffic lights in the upper left are lit, hit command-w, and something else on my screen disappears. Happens several times per day. I get characters intended for the search field of iTunes instead going to a cell in Excel all the time, or command-h hiding the wrong app, or control-tab doing who knows what rather than changing tabs in firefox, or....Â
This has been happening since about the time I got a magic trackpad in September 2010 (if I recall), but I can't imagine it's a problem with the trackpad since it happens when I change apps with command-tab, too.

OS X Mavericks :: Print Mail Attachment Without Saving It First?
Jun 26, 2014With Mail in Lion, I could scroll to the bottom of an email and double click on the icon for the Word doc or pdf attachment to open it, then hit command P to print it. With Mavericks, it appears that I have to first "save" the document somewhere and then open it and print it. Is this correct? Â
In most cases, this is an extra step that is unnecessary.Â
Right now, the attachment displays (opened) within the email, but I don't want to print several pages of an email when all I want is to print the attached doc, for instance, an attached invoice. Also, I can't tell what kind of document it is without saving it, which I don't like. I've tried to find a way around this in preferences but no luck. Â
I guess what I'd really prefer is to go back to the old Lion version of Mail, or something that approximates it more closely. Do I need to just get over it and realize that I'm going to have to save every attachment if I want to print it or is there a workaround of some sort?

Nov 14, 2009Every time I try to drag and drop a jpeg into an email I am composing it shrinks it. I have also tried adding jpeg's to iphoto and then emailing them through the button on the bottom. iphoto even asks me whether to use the original size, but when the email comes out on the other end it is always considerably smaller. When I add pdf's it keeps it original size. Does anyone have any advice?

Any way to change to the default font. Have tried changing the font in the preferences, but it doesn't seem to change that area. Cannot read what the attachments even are.

However I needed to have some alterations made to this file (business card) I duly received two consecutive attachments, which were the alterations to my business card (the 777 KB file. These two files were now 1.3 MB and 1.4 MB in size, they appeared in the message window as large black images (nothing visible) which I was unable to open.As I did not know the problem, suggested to the sender to perhaps reduce the file size, as I was able to open the original file. (Mine and the wife's)- When I attach Ms-Office documents to an email from my account on either machine, PC users can open them fine.- When my wife attaches MS-Office documents on either machine, PC users cannot open them.- We are both in school and often upload documents to our school's website.
