View 3 Repliesi have finally decided to import my addresses from excel into address book (i switched from a PC about a year ago). i exported the addresses to a csv text file and then imported it from address book. that worked fine, i set up the right labels and then clicked okay on the "text file import" box after everything was set. the problem is, when i click okay, nothing happens. the program isn't frozen but clicking okay does nothing, nothing actually imports into the address book.

If I have a "person" named (for example) "John Doe", I can email that person just by typing "John Doe" in the To: section, and selecting from a list that populates automatically. However, if the address-book entry is for a company (e.g. Dave's Florist), it doesn't seem to work at all. And since Mail doesn't seem to have "address" functionality that lets you select from the Address Book, it seems like the only option is to go into the address book, copy the e-mail address, to back to mail, and paste.

I've recently started my own business and have gotten involved with a number of networking groups. I'm now sitting here with a bunch of business cards. I have a Canon CanoScan 5600F that will let me scan the cards but I can only save them as PDF, JPEG, TIFF or PICT.
Rather than recreating all these business cards by hand, is there an easy way to import all these into Address Book?
Recently I tried to set up sync with gmail. As soon as I did all my contacts in the cloud and all my Apple devices disappeared. I shut down the sync and tried to re-import my contacts from an earlier export, but each time I choose Import, the names appear, the wheel spins, and when it stops all the contacts disappear.

For example I send a litttle news email one a week to a group of contacts. I want to send this email to people's personal -- not business -- email address. I've created a group in Address Book and type that group name in my Mail to line and the group pops up. But a few of the records pick the corporate address and I have to go in and change those addresses.
I just tried editing one record ... I deleted both "work" and "home" addresses from a record. Then reentered them "home" first, "work" second. But when I closed the edit Address Book listed them in the original order (maybe alpha).

Using a G4 IBOOK with OS 10.5.8. Recently converted IBOOK from just my wifes computer to both of us so it is now dual usuage with both of us signing in to our respective files/e-mail, etc. My side has a problem never experienced before. My apple mail system address book has all the names the dock address book does but is missing almost 2/3rd of the actual e-mail addressess. I have tried to redo the dock address book in hopes it would change the "internal" mail book, but to no avail. It id difficult to add a recipient to an outgoing e-mail via the dock address instead of the apple mail address book.

When I send an email Mail autocompletes the address for me giving available options. The options that it gives me are for people in my address book and people that I have sent emails to which are not in my address book. Where does it store the latter? I would like to remove the ones that arent in the address book?

So, I manually copied my files over along with select apps & preferences files.I got everything (Firefox, Thunderbird, etc) working exactly how I left them in Tiger. But, I messed up my Address Book and Mail. Now when I try to use them it says "You cannot use this version of the application [app name] with this version of Mac OS X.Is there a way to just reinstall these two apps without starting over with a fresh install?

My Mail and Address Book do not appear to be talking very well. Out of the box, the mail application does not appear to let me select recipients from the Address Book when composing a message. I added the "Address Book" button to the toolbar for composing a message. I can click this and bring up the address book, but there is still seemingly no way to select recipients from the Address Book.
I read somewhere that the "auto complete" function is supposed to reach out to Address Book when entering recipients' names in the "To" line. This is not working. I found some suggestions to go and delete a file in the Library that governs this function. I did that, but it has not worked.
What am I missing? Why is it so difficult to select people from your address book and send them an email from the Mail application? Is something broken here or is this a reality for this Mac? My wife is ready to kill me for throwing out her beloved PC.
My mail and address book (contacts) were working fine, but now Mail does not recognize the address book. It is still there, but Mail says it is invalid.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Mac computer with Snow Leopard already installed on the computer, and somewhere along the way I deleted iCal. As I understand it from the Apple link below, iCal is "bundled" with Mac Mail and Address Book [URL]. And that Mac Mail can be configured to include online email accounts like gmail. I'm currently using Mac Mail 4.3 (1081), and as far as I know, I cannot use this version of Mac Mail to include online email like gmail. This particular version of Mac Mail is corrupted on my computer as the plus sign and edit buttons on the bottom of the Address Book are not visible. I am interested in re-gaining the use of the plus sign and edit button within the Mac Mail Address Book, and also in accessing online email accounts within Mac Mail.
Since Snow Leopard was already installed on my computer when I purchased it, I don't currently have a Snow Leopard installation disk. As such, what is the best way for me to update my Mac Mail application in order to use the Address Book and online email account applications mentioned above within Mac Mail. My best guess is to purchase the Snow Leopard installation disk independently, and use Pacifist software to extract iCal from this disk, and through iCal, use Mac Mail for my two applications of interest.
I have always used Address Book to store my email contact information in SL. When I wanted to send an email, I would drag and drop from Address Book to the "To:" field in Mail and it would add the contact information to Mail. I upgraded to Lion, and now when I try this, the address icon moves like it should, the little green circle with the + in it appears when I hover over the field, but when I release it does not add the address to Mail. The drag and drop does not work at all, but it looks like it should. I have searched all around but have not found any information about this.

I'm able to create groups just fine in Address book. However when it comes to using them in Mail, they won't work: I type the first couple of characters and Mail offers to auto-complete, so it does know about them. When I hit return at that point *nothing* appears in the address field, it just stays blank.

Snow Leopard 10.6. Address Book SELECTIVELY allows deletion of a multiple contact entry. The updating of the contact database, as as function of the installation of Snow Leopard, produces/creates/brings to your attention, multiples of some contacts that did not exist prior to the upgrade. Most duplicates or triplicates you cannot delete. Some will allow you to delete one but not the other. You can delete them using MobileMe or on the iPhone but not by using the Address Book.
