I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard Mail, and the save attachment button has new behavior -- used to be it would always ask which directory to save attachments to; now it automatically saves them in the download folder in the dock, and I have to drag them individually to the right folder. I can't find an option to change to the old "always ask" behavior.
View 1 RepliesAm having lots of Mail issues today, but besides not being able to receive messages, the ones I have gotten with attachments, when you pull down the "save" attachment button, the font is a bunch the letter A in a box. Any way to change to the default font. Have tried changing the font in the preferences, but it doesn't seem to change that area. Cannot read what the attachments even are.

I'm having a problem with Apple Mail. It won't let me open .doc attachments in a compose window, yet I can open .docx attachments without issue. For example, when I compose a new message and attach a document, I like to double click the attachment within the message to confirm that I'm sending the right file to my client.
With 10.5, this wasn't an issue. Everything opened as expected. But with 10.6, I get an error message that says "Mail was unable to save the attachment "file_name" to disk. Verify that your downloads folder exists and is writable." Again, this is ONLY happening with .doc files and it happens no matter which account in Mail I choose to send from.
Image Capture in Snow Leopard defaults to saving to the Pictures folder, but I want to change it to the Desktop instead. If I simply change it in the app, close it, and open it again, it reverts back to the Pictures folder.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a rule that copies an email to the ON MY MAC and then another that MOVES TO A FOLDER in Mobileme. They are in this order. The problem is when I quit Mail the Folder I am copying to is changed to the Mobileme folder so I end up with a duplicate. It doesn't change until Mail is quit. The other odd part, there one arragement like this that did savef at some point and works as expected.Â

The only gripe so far with my 2011 Mac Mini is the power button on the BACK of the computer. Really? Everything else I can turn on while sitting in my chair, but I have to get up and reach around the mini to turn it on. I guess I'll have to get an under desk mount and put it close to the front of the desk so I can reach it. Â
Was Apple worried LaCie was going to sue them over design issues if they had a single power button on the front?

I have an issue with setting up my Gmail account for IMAP. I followed all of the instructions of Google's website, but I am having an issue with setting up the Spam. Reading Google's site it says that when I delete Spam from [Gmail]/Spam that the e-mail should be deleted; however the e-mail appears instead in [Gmail]/All Mail. This also happens if I delete something from [Gmail]/Deleted. My question is how can I change my settings so that (1) the e-mail/spam is permanently deleted or (2) at sent ONLY to the trash and not [Gmail]/All Mail? This also occurs on my iPhone, but I have the mail accounts synced between my phone and computer do if I fixed one I fix the other.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Mail 4.5. I used to have a Junk button next to the Delete button. I would select a long list of messages and click the Junk button. I was making adjustments in my Preferences (to stop certain filters), and must have done something to make that button disappear. Also, it seems to have stopped filtering junk. My Junk Mail preferences still show: Enable junk mail filtering, When junk mail arrives, move it to the junk mailbox, and all the rest of the boxes are checked.

For some strange reason Leopard mail doesn't seem to want to save any of our passwords to any our accounts. We've gone into mail preferences and saved them there, but as soon as we close down mail it 'forgets' them again. We've also repaired the keychain, but the same thing happens. Anyone know of how to fix a password memory problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm used to working on a PC. When I open a file on a PC and then do a 'save-as', the PC always saves the new file in the same folder as the original. This seems so obvious, and 99% of the time is exactly what you want. On the other odd occasions it's simple to change the path.
But it doesn't happen on a Mac. MAC saves the file to wherever you last did a 'save-as'. Quite often I forget to check where this is and change it. I then have to do a 'Search' in 'Finder' to look for it. This gives me another problem, because 'Search' goes off hunting before you've even finished typing the name of the file - and either seems to find hundreds of unrelated items, or zilch! The 'help' on search doesn't help. The last time this happened to me, I could only find the file by searching manually in each of the places I thought it might be - and never managed to find it using the 'Search' facility.
I used to find 'Default Folder X' a help in regard to fixing the 'save-as' location, but the current version working in conjunction Snow Leopard, doesn't seem to be so effective.
When I try to save a file in TextEdit or Pages after a pause between last save, it fails due to that error. "Pages could not save example.pages because its location could not be determined." This just started recently, and is annoying.

The problem is everytime I turn my mac off and back on my iTunes reverts the location back to my itunes media folder on my mac and I have to manually set it back to my itunes media folder on my external hard drive. Why does it keep changing?

I want to take a screenshot, (using the standard shortcuts, command shift 3) which saves it to desktop. Don't ask why, but I want to save it to a folder, elsewhere on the hard drive and I have a lot of shots to take and don't want to keep selecting/moving, etc. Any way to change the default save location? By the way, running Tiger, 10.4.11 on a MacBook.

This saves the file to the desktop. Is there a way to change the save location?
Also I've been then adding the clippings to a PS file but this is getting to time consuming and dull to manage.
Is there a better option?

I'm a bit confused here. I pay my phone bill online and recently started printing the receipts to the "pdf printer" on my mac so I can store them electronically. However, I cannot find the folder where the receipts are being printed to. Does anyone know the location of this standard folder in Snow Leopard?

The reason I ask is because when I went to export some pictures it didnt save any of this information whatsoever and with 4000 photos thats a lot of work to go add all that information back to. Tonight i was working on a report in MS Office 08, and it was all fine and what not until one point i got some error message saying that the disk was full and i couldnt save it and to change the saving location. Anything this is on the main drive where i have ~40gb's left. So i put my USB Drive in to save it on that and it gave me the same error it wouldnt save on anything it just keep saying Disk Full.. Does anyone know what that is? Clearly its some sort of error/bug as i restarted the macbook and downloaded a picture and saved it on my desktop with no problems after the reboot. Im running mac osx 10.5.6

Successfully moved mail to another partition ~ however not getting Spotlight (or Mail) to index or search email since the move.Tried adding the folder to Spotlight privacy settings ~ then removing but no luck.Tried contacting Apple however moving mail from Libraries is not 'supported' so no love there. how to get Spotlight to search mail residing on another partition? View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a mail attachement with the extension .gem, and I would like to use that attachment as the argument to a java .jar program. I've figured out how to start the java program using a shell script like this:

java -jar /Users/geoff/Programs/program.jar $1
If I name this script program.sh and change the permissions to allow execution, I can successfully run the program by typing this in a terminal window:
./program.sh filename.gem
However, when I try to open the attachement filename.gem from mail, it won't let me use program.sh to open the attachment. The OS seems to make a distinction between a file and an application that is independent of the execute permission on the file. After doing some reading about this, I tried Automator. One of the Automator actions is to execute a shell script, so I added that action to my Automator project and typed in my command:
java -jar /Users/geoff/Programs/program.jar $1
I also changed to input from options from "stdin" to "argument". I then saved the Automator project, and was able to associate that project with the .gem file attachment from mail. The java program started, but behaved as if the $1 argument was not included. (Perhaps I just need to leave out the "$1" in my Automator command, trusting Automator to insert the argument in the proper place. If that theory is correct, my program is interpreting the text "$1" as an argument, which would be consistent with the behavior that I'm seeing.) I've seen other suggestions to use AppleScript, but it seems to me that there ought to be some simple way to do this. (I just got a Mac, by the way. I was able to do this in Windows using MIME type definitions and a .bat file. The difference is that Windows allowed me to consider program.bat as an executable, but Mac OS doesn't consider program.sh to be an executable.)
Received an email attachment that is zipped, and instructed to open it with Archive Utility. For some reason I cannot open it, or if it is open, find it.
