i have tried all the encoding method.
I still have a couple of OLD apps that require System 9. When I attempt to open either of them I get the "Classic is starting" progress bar, but it never quite finishes. I can start Classic okay with extensions off but then I can't use the printer, and my old copy of Photoshop Elements won't load no matter what I try. I get an error message when I try to run "Install Applications and Classic Support" from my installation disk. I really don't want to part with the $$ for System 10.4 AND two new pieces of software right now.

However, I have an iBook G4 from mid-2005 that came with Panther. I upgraded to Leopard, and so lost the capability of running Mac Classic.I recently bought a study book for a college exam, but the software it came with requires Mac Classic, which I cannot run. Is there a simple way of making this work? I tried SheepShaver, but I couldn't figure out how to make that do anything useful
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to OSx Lion 10.7 and find that Quicken 2007 won't open as Lion does not support it. Quicken advises that it does not yet have Quicken for Lion but is working on it. Meantime I am stuck as I use Quicken all the time. I am wondering if it is possible to uninstall Lion using the Snow Leopard install CD. At present, Lion is a disaster and I'd like to get rid of it and go back to Snow Leopard. Apple really screwed up with this one.

Upgraded my MacPro 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon to Lion so that I can take advantage of icloud functions that apparently won't work with my present OS. I did a clean install of the Lion OS, and began to selectively reinstall application programs. I inserted the install disc for my Logic Studio Application, an application which was not cheap, and I am met with the above message when I try to install the software. View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent corruption of my In box (never happened until Leo ........ I know I know, but I really, until now like Eu) I changed prefs to using old style .toc's and leaving messages on the server for 15 days.
Even with these changes my In has once again gone corrupt.
Removing the .toc and "forcing Eu to rebuild did nothing at all.
I tossed the In and the .toc and reset the server (my messages are left on the server for 15 days under Eu prefs.) to show all messages unread, thinking that and a new In box, and Eudora would download all the messages on the server.
So is there a way to tell Eudora to download from the server anything that's there?

The computer I use at work is 2.5 years old and there is no more support?I work on a web based system 90% of my daily work and it works with Java Applets. In Safari I have a buggy Java Applet which doesn't show and work as it should.In Firefox since the Java version gets blocked, the browser completely crashes after allowing FF to use the Java Plugin anyway.In Chrome I cannot start the Applet even when I allow Chrome to do this. View 10 Replies View RelatedHey all. I have an odd question for you guys. My friend's PowerBook G4 crashed hard yesterday and she had to reinstall OS X (she lost all her stuff). She has 10.3, but she is having a hard time finding apps that will run under it. I did some research for her and found that her system should be able to run 10.5, which would make life a lot easier for her as just about all apps run under 10.5. The one problem with this is I am not sure if her system can handle it.
Here are the specs she gave me:

512MB RAM
Does anyone know if this is enough to run Leopard well?? ATM she just need something that will get online, download torrents, and play DVDs. She is a musician and she has composition software that ran under 10.3. Not sure if it will run under 10.4, but ATM she just wants the system back to "useable" condition.If she can't run 10.5, she should be able to upgrade to 10.4 right? She will have more trouble finding apps that are compatible, but at least it will run better then 10.3 does.

I am having problems with a partition that I use as my Time Machine backup. I have searched various previous discussions but can't seem to find a solution. My HDD is split into 2 partitions and the Time Machine one doesn't mount, the other works fine. When I try to mount it using Disk Utility I get the error message: "The disk X could not be mounted. Try running First Aid on the disk and retry mounting". Then without doing anything else I get another message "Mac OS X can't repair the disk X. You can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can't save changes to files on the disk. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can." Which disappeared after a few seconds and the partition mounted. When I try to repair the disk I get the above error message and another: "Disk Utility stopped repairing X. Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed up files." This appears after it says 'Updating boot support partitions…'. When mounted, I can open it in Finder, but when I try to copy 'Backups.backupdb' I get a message saying "The operation can't be completed because it isn't supported." This is the same for 'X's Computer' and each backup folder. I can copy files and folders in each backup folder but this would be very tedious and probably Time Machine wouldn't be able to use the resulting files. I have tried restoring the partition, through Disk Utility, to another HDD, but it just copies across the error. Disk Utility has been rather buggy as well, hanging on various operations involving the partition.

I just read something about how old laser printers--I still use a LaserWriter 16/600--need to be reconfigured to work with Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, I use to know how to do things with the Classic OS's "Apple Print Utility" but I don't think that there is an OS X equivalent. Does anyone know of one? All I want to do is be able to do the normal things: turn on/off the start up page, find out the IP address, load fonts, etc.
