Software :: Bandwidth Meter - Display Daily & Weekly Preferably Monthly Even Hourly

Jun 15, 2008

Let me just say that I'm not a Mac user and and never have been i have the UK iPhone and was waiting in line to get it, so i do appreciate Apple products. Basically i want to find out the total of all the bandwidth that all the PC's/Mac's are using in my household, I've got the software for my Windows machines but my sister has a Macbook (which i recommended her btw) and i don't have a clue what to get for it? I need something that can display daily & weekly preferably monthly even hourly if it has it.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Daily/Weekly/Monthly Servicing Of It?

Mar 6, 2012

I am new to Mac and I have a 10.6 server running the following services: AFP, DCHP, DNS, NetBoot, NFS, Open Directory, Print, SMB, Software Update, Web. Everything is going well. I wanted to know what could I be doing to make sure it stays that way. I run the Repair Disk Permissions every 2 weeks, but that's about it.

Hardware :: Preferably Dell Monitor That's As Good As Apple Cinema Display?

Dec 14, 2009

I'm deciding to buy myself a new mac pro coming around Jan-Feb and since mac pro's cost sooo much I'm cutting money on every corner; from buying only on amazon to using magazine coupons. The biggest money waster in my opinion is the 22' Led Cinema display apple sells. It costs around 900$ to buy an apple display which hasn't been updated for 3+ years when new Dell monitors of the same size (with camera installed and quality optional speakers) cost roughly about 400 max? I know apple displays are premium but extra 500 bucks is ridiculous.

Applications :: IStat Menus - Does Not Display Network/bandwidth Data?

Feb 10, 2010

I'm running the latest iStat Menus (2.0) on Snow Leopard 10.6.2. All the displayed data shows just fine with the exception of the Network (bandwidth) menu. The graph does not reflect bandwidth being used and the "KB/s" displays a constant "0.0KB/s." I've tried rebooting and I've also tried manually selecting "Airport" in the General Settings in iStat Menus' Preference Pane.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

(iStat Pro, the widget version of this program, displays the bandwidth data though.)

Hardware :: Color Calibrating Monitor Using Color Meter - How To Use Color Meter And Save Color Profile

Feb 20, 2009

before switching to Mac, I used an "X-Rite Eye One Display 2" color meter device with software. You can find them most places like Amazon for about $150. The device should still work, but I can't find any software for it for the Mac. After going to the X-Rite web site, I could find no software at all for the Mac as it is only windows based.

Surely someone out there has used a color meter such as this one as they are quite popular especially for graphics artists that use professional graphic monitors. I am hoping someone can tell me how to use my color meter (USB), what software for Mac Leopard I need and how to save the color profile in the Mac OS.

Month-old Mac Pro Won't Do Hourly Backups In Time Machine

Apr 2, 2012

No hourly backups to an external USB2 drive. It did the initial backup and manual backups fine. Just no hourly. Says it's going to do the next backup, that time passes and it does nothing. No errors reported, just no backups. Click to "Backup Now" and it does so happily.

IMac :: I7 - Weekly SMC Reset Required?

Apr 24, 2010

It's happened twice this month - my CPU fans will suddenly rev up to 4,000 RPM, and iStatPro will show the CPU temperature as "--". The first time it happened, I was worried that the machine got too hot. The second time, I had just sat down at the computer in the morning... the top of it was hardly even warm.

Both times, after shutting down and rebooting the fans went back to normal, but the computer performed poorly in graphical tasks such as rendering and gaming until I do an SMC reset, which brings it back to normal.

OS X :: Best Remote Management Desktop Software? (Preferably Free)

Nov 28, 2010

I am running a headless Mac Mini off of my modem as an Internet gateway, DNS server, mail server, etc. I am just setting it up now, so I am wondering what is the best software (apart from the very expensive Apple Desktop Remote package) to run this Mini from another desktop? If it is also supported by iPad, that's a plus, but really not important as I find remote desktop software on the iPad to be pretty clunky in general. I'd prefer to use free software, but not if it means not opting to use something much better that costs a little money.

Applications :: Countdown Timer Overlay (Preferably In IMovie)

Dec 20, 2007

I'm creating several movies that will play before a church service begins. Usually we just buy countdown videos, but this time I thought I'd get creative and make some. There is always a countdown timer that starts at 5:00 and counts down to 0. This way people know when the service is going to start, from 5 minutes out. I have been searching and searching and cannot find any way to overlay a countdown timer in iMovie HD or iMovie '08 (I have both).

Can someone suggest something? I don't want just a countdown movie, it has to be only in the corner or something. I want to use some footage of driving to church, make it fast forward so it finishes in exactly 5 minutes, and have a countdown timer display overtop of that in a corner. I've tried using the Slick 5 Gallery for iMovie, but they just have countdown movies, not overlay. Also, the Labels & Overlays from stupendous software has a timer, but it only counts up.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Getting Hourly Beachball (Possibly Time Machine)

May 14, 2012

I am having this problem since may be a week. I am suspecting that it started after updating to 10.7.4 Lion. Every hour, in my case at 47 minutes of the hour, I get a spinning beach ball and my MacBook becomes (sometimes completely) unresponsive. This happened in several programs including, Safari, Word, PowerPoint, Mail, Address Book etc etc.

Once I noticed that when this was happening my Time Machine icon was spinning (preparing backup). So I thought it might be related to that. Especially since time Machine tries to backup every hour. Now I usually backup every couple of days by connecting my USB drive, and have never had these problems before. I am guessing that every time Time Machine tries to make an hourly backup my computer for some reason becomes unresponsive.

I kept an eye out for it and indeed every time it happens it is at minute 47 of the hour in my case. And it happens every hour. Although I usually do not see the spinning Time Machine icon since my MacBook usually becomes almost completely unresponsive and reacts to almost nothing. I am guessing that's why I only noticed the time Machine icon spinning just once.

Safari :: Setup Weekly Time Restrictions To The Internet?

Jun 15, 2012

What I need to do is an extension of Parental Controls.  The main difference is I want to do WEEKLY time allocation/restrictions, not daily.  I want to give the kids (for exmaple) 10 hours a week for internet access.  I will set blocks of time up that will bar access from 11PM until 7 AM but within the open time, they will have 10 hours. Once that 10 hours is used, they are locked out. There are several tools that seem to do variations of this, mainly limit the # of hours per day.... this will not work.  I have looked at Content Barrier, NetNanny Safe, Eyes, and a few others... There are a couple on the Windows side but they do not have a Mac version.

OS X :: Data On Monthly Time Machine Backups?

Mar 4, 2008

After TM reduces the backups to the monthly backups only, what data is stored on it? Is it all data compiled from the daily backups for the entire month? How does TM treat the monthly backup? The reason I ask is, If I add 100 digital pictures per day for a month, are there going to be all 3000 pictures on the monthly backup file after 30 days, or does TM actually delete some of it's backups before the disc is full?
