Aug 4, 2009In exploring my new macbook pro, I've somehow set it to say the time every hour. How do I get it to stop this annoying feature! I forget which menu I turned it on from.

Jun 12, 2012Is there any way to change the automatic updates in Time Machine from hourly?I am a home user and backing up every hour for me is overkill. Is there any way to change the intervals to say monthly?

May 8, 2012I've just noticed that the TM schedule appears to be backing up every 2 hours as opposed to very hour as it should be.I have not tried to make any manual changes.Â

Month-old Mac Pro Won't Do Hourly Backups In Time Machine
Apr 2, 2012No hourly backups to an external USB2 drive. It did the initial backup and manual backups fine. Just no hourly. Says it's going to do the next backup, that time passes and it does nothing. No errors reported, just no backups. Click to "Backup Now" and it does so happily.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Getting Hourly Beachball (Possibly Time Machine)
May 14, 2012I am having this problem since may be a week. I am suspecting that it started after updating to 10.7.4 Lion. Every hour, in my case at 47 minutes of the hour, I get a spinning beach ball and my MacBook becomes (sometimes completely) unresponsive. This happened in several programs including, Safari, Word, PowerPoint, Mail, Address Book etc etc.
Once I noticed that when this was happening my Time Machine icon was spinning (preparing backup). So I thought it might be related to that. Especially since time Machine tries to backup every hour. Now I usually backup every couple of days by connecting my USB drive, and have never had these problems before. I am guessing that every time Time Machine tries to make an hourly backup my computer for some reason becomes unresponsive.
I kept an eye out for it and indeed every time it happens it is at minute 47 of the hour in my case. And it happens every hour. Although I usually do not see the spinning Time Machine icon since my MacBook usually becomes almost completely unresponsive and reacts to almost nothing. I am guessing that's why I only noticed the time Machine icon spinning just once.

What to do? I have tried everything I can think of but its only improved from total freeze while Time Machine backs up to freeze with an occasional few seconds of activity.Â

Aug 21, 2010So a while back I had final cut pro installed, and eventually deleted cause I no longer needed it. I used AppCleaner when removing to try and make sure I got it all.
Well every time I do a software update it wants to install "Pro Applications Update" and "Prokit Updates" Which are updates for final cut pro and its related apps.
Any idea how I can stop it from wanting me to install these updates for something I no longer have?

Jan 29, 2009I have several text files that I would like to have Text to Speech read for me. However the software does not pause at natural breaks like normal speech. For instance after commas, periods, end of paragraphs, etc. Are there control codes that I can put in my text files to cause the software to pause? I can edit my files accordingly but I can't seem to locate control codes.

He showed that you could highlight text on a page, right-click on it and select to add the text to Mail as a note or send it to iTunes as speech. I don't see either of these options. Mar 4, 2010I am trying to convert a text file to an audio file by using 'text to speech'. Originally, the text was created in Pages but just in case I also saved it as an rtf file. I want to save it as an mp3. Also, once I've got the workflow, I would like to use this again with other text files. I know I can save the workflow and I can do the task by Automator, but I must be doing something wrong. Should I use the 'record' function? What am I doing wrong? I called AppleCare but of course, after 15 minutes they recommended their online discussions. They don't know anything about these basics. The guy asked me, what I tried. I told him that I tried Terminal, but I was confident that Automator and creating a workflow would be the solution for me. He didn't even know where Automator was. I suppose, this was the last time that I purchased an AppleCare.

There are hours and hours of talks and I'm looking for software that will help make my job easier. OS X comes with some very good text to speech capabilities. Is there any capability to do speech to text on OS X? It would be great if there were free/cheap shareware products that do this task.
