Software :: Any Way To Block Application On Computer?

Jun 19, 2008

I would like to know if there is a way to stop every user on a computer including the administrator from using a program. I know it sounds weird but I want to block a program from running on my computer no matter what. Is there a way to do this?

OS X :: Any Way To Block Application From Connecting To Internet?

May 7, 2009

Is there a way to prevent a single application from ever connecting to the internet? I have a program that always tries to update itself on startup, but the update breaks it. The preference to never check for updates isn't saved between each quit, and if it detects an update it will start downloading automatically, without my consent.

I've tried using the Security section in SysPrefs to block incoming connections, but that just leaves it stuck at 0% downloaded, instead of stopping the entire process. I'm stuck with disabling Airport, starting the application and getting past the main menu and then re-enabling Airport, which is starting to become a pain. I'll use Little Snitch if necessary, but I only need to block the one application. If there's some kind of Terminal command or .plist file I could edit instead of spending $30 on Little Snitch, I'd like to take that route.

OS X :: How To Block Particular Computer From Using Wireless

Jul 12, 2009

I been googling and searching for an answer for this question...and all of them say to go through the router. But I was just wondering if there is a way to block computers from using my wireless? Here is the deal. I have a router set up which uses a WPA password. I live in a apartment building so I gave the password to some of my close friends to use. I monitor who is on my network through just looking at the "shared" section on my finder window. I can tell which computers belong to my friends, but every once in a while, an unknown computer pops up. I believe I have seen 3 unknown computers (PC's) - and they do not use the net frequently. I would like to block these computers when they come up. Is there a way to do this without going into the router settings and adjusting those protocols?

Applications :: Application Cannot Be Installed On This Computer

Jan 6, 2011

Some applications simply refuse to install, citing the reason that the application "can't be installed on this computer" and nothing else. The applications that are giving me this error message in particular includes Alfred and Solitaire Greatest Hits. Other applications work just fine, such as Twitter for Mac and TextWrangler. Are Alfred and Solitaire compiled for processors that are newer than my lowly Core Duo, or what?

Software :: How To Block A Specific Site

Aug 8, 2008

Turns out that on days when I'm not at work, a co-worker is using my computer to access two specific porn sites. I would just like to block those sites to see if he gets the hint before reporting the problem. I can't just log the computer off when I'm not around.

**Bonus Challenge: Can I redirect him to, say, a page on my own domain that will let him know that he is busted?

These are my specifications:

OS: 10.4

Browser: Safari

Connection: DSL

Network: Hard-wired ethernet, connected to network printer but not to any other computers on the network.

OS X :: Unable To Block A Wifi Signal

Nov 10, 2009

I have 40 MacBooks in a small private High School. The High School is on a church campus. The school has 4 Airport Extreme's with an SSID of CCHS. On the same campus there are 2 other public WiFi networks. What I want to figure out without having to worry about blocking the Mac Addresses on 2 different routers everytime a new High School MacBook is being used it to setup on the MacBook so it won't connect to those WiFi signals. We use Apple Remote Desktop to monitor the MacBooks and sometimes the students are connected to other network and we can't see their laptops.

We have an Xserve server that all the MacBook's are bound to and can make changes to the MCX records but need to know what I can do in order to make it so they can't connect to these 2 other networks.

OS X :: Possible To Block Wireless Internet Users?

Nov 19, 2009

I need some info if this is possible, is there any means software wise other then changing the WEP password on my wireless modem to block someone from using it? This person of interest is using a windows laptop with xp and has some kinda of WEP crack program that can find out the password. So hence changing the password is a lose, and I'm not to sure if there are similar programs to WAP based (if not I go and buy an apple airbase with WAP2 password). I was thinking of some means of knowing the I.P. number of the laptop and preventing the modem from having it connect to it.
