what is the keyboard shortcut for screenshot or print screen?

I recently got a MacBook Pro 2Ghz and therefore would like to try Safari out. I used Firefox on Windows and I loved the shortcut to the Google Search (CMD+K).
But it isn't there in Safari. So I googled it and found out I can make my own shortcut for it. This is what people have said I should do:
Quote:
1. Open System Preferences.
2. Click on Keyboard & Mouse.
3. Click on Keyboard Shortcuts.
4. Click the + to add a new shortcut.
5. Choose Safari from the Application menu.
6. Type Google Search... (without the quotes) into the Menu Title field. Those three dots are an ellipses, formed by typing Option-semicolon (not three periods).
7. Press Command-K in the Keyboard Shortcut field.
8. Click Add.
9. Close and reopen Safari.
I couldn't make the ellipses through Option-semicolon, but alt-X. I think it's because it's a Danish keyboard, but I don't know.
But here's the problem: It doesn't work.
I've done it step by step and I've tried to restard the computer and done it again, it just doesn't work.
'm new here and quite new to mac as well.
Until now I've used the shortcut for spotlight (ctrl-spacebar) a lot. But suddenly it doesn't function any more. When I go to the preferences and hint the spotlight-icon, nothing happens. If I click it again, it opens, but with the shortcut selections in the bottom erased.
I have a Intel Leopard 10.5.6 MacBook.
running leopard. when using any document such as pages, numbers etc and I make a change to a already saved document, the file menu has the Save As and Save options but whenever I choose the shown shortcut, Save , apple key + S option I just get a soft beep noise and nothing happens, I still have to go in by the file menu with the mouse and click on it in the file menu before it saves my changes.
The key is said to be command+option+m . Minimize works, but not minimize all. Is there some way to make this work?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried setting a shortcut for "All Applications" -> "Zoom" so that I can have a keyboard shorcut for the green button/maximize button at the top (you can probably tell I just switched over from Windows). I set it to control+Z (^Z) and in FireFox when I look at the Window menu at the top I see "Zoom ^Z" like it should work, but it doesn't. When I click control+Z the Window menu at top sort of flashes/highlights real quick but the zoom function is not called. When I manually go to Window-->Zoom, it works.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSpotlight shortcut does not work. When I press ctrl + space, nothing happen. When I click on magnifier icon by mouse, everything work well.
In Spotlight configuration and also in keyboard shortcut configuration this shortcut is present and marked as active.
I've also tried to disable and enable back this shortcut but it still not work.

command-option-apostrophe does not work in Apple Mail for me (Mail 7.3, OS 10.9.3). This is the keyboard shortcut used to decrease the quote level of a quoted line in a Mail message. In other words this is the keyboard shortcut for the menu item:
Format --> Quote Level --> Decrease
It hasn't worked for me since at least 10.8. Are others having this problem or do I need to dig more deeply through system extensions, looking for some kin of conflict?
OS 10.9.3. This morning the Finder keyboard shortcut Command-W stopped closing windows and instead opened a folder burried fairly deeply in my Home folder. I moved that folder and managed to get Command-W to stop opening it, but it will still NOT close a window in Finder. Nor will it close windows in applications. What does happne is that the frame of the window flashes (but it remains open).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed by default everyone else's computers with Safari on them do CMD+W to close tabs, but for some reason mine does OPT+T. It's become a serious impediment to my browsing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I assign shortcut keys to Spaces using the Expose' & Spaces panel in System Preferences, it seems that in a day or two the shortcut keys no longer work and System Preferences shows them as being unassigned. I thought there may be a conflict with another shortcut but there isn't - at least according to the Keyboard & Mouse panel in System Preferences. This happens on both my MBP and my iMac as well as on the PowerMac I recently sold. I've tried other keys and combinations but with the same results. I've also experienced this in all versions of Leopard including the current 10.5.7. I'm using F8 to activate Spaces, Command + Option + Arrow key to switch between Spaces and Command + Option + Number key to switch directly to a Space. Has anyone else experienced this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering if there was a way to change the short cut key combination for switching tabs on safari. I wanted to change it to something like cmd and arrow direction instead of using cmd + shift + [ or ] for directions.

Question about the Command+ F function. Is there a way to close the small area that pops for you to write the word you are searching for in the current webpage by using a shortcut? The only way I know of how to close that is by clicking done, but I would like to know if there is a shortcut or something.

The shortcut keys work in other applications, including Chrome and Firefox, but they don't work in Safari. The context menu commands do the right thing, but there is no shortcut key combo listed in Safari.

since the 10.7.4 update, I have the url shortcuts icon missing in my dock: When draging a new URL from safari to the dock, it's the same problem. The icon is invisible but there is a gap between the other icons and the name of the url's page is displayed when passing the cursor. This problem is only with URL shortcuts and no with jpg or pdf or mp3 or folder sortcuts etc.. I have already reboot the dock and make a disk permissions check and repair. Restarting my computer doesn't solve the problem. Safari Version 5.1.7 (7534.57.2)

I have checked multiple support sites, and all indicate the same shortcut. I even tried "adding" the shortcut in the "Application Shortcuts" screen in Preferences.

How can I disable the (Command + "Left or Right Arrow") Keystroke in Safari that navigates Back and Forward. If I could also disable the (delete) key from navigating back, I would be happy.
I edit text with these keystrokes all the time and now that I've upgraded to Lion and Safari 5.1.5 I run into problems with my workflow.
I just want (delete) to delete text and (Command + Arrow Key) to select a whole line of text.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for switching search engines in Safari's search box (I believe Chrome had this feature before they got rid of the search box in the latest version)? The arrow on the left-hand side is cumbersome.

I try the simple; Command, shift, 3 or 4 for sections. I was on the internet and I was looking for flights from my location to Boston, and I tried screens hotting and it redirected me to some page. To be more exact, commend shift 3 sends me to Facebook (3rd page on my bookmarks) and command shift 4 sends me to twitter (or the 4th one) ...

I don't know how to take a screenshot, or I would. I just tried to register my AppleCare (which I bought from the Apple Store the same day I bought my MacBook) and when I click "submit" I get a message telling me the product I'm trying to use is unavailable in my location (which I know for a fact isn't the case - I live in NC, not on Mars). Has anyone else ever seen this happen? I printed the screen to a PDF so when I go to the Apple Store tomorrow they don't think I'm nuts. I know there's no problem with what I bought, and I know I'll get it taken care of in the morning, but it's a bit annoying and I was curious to see if others had had this happen. Also - hope I posted this in the right thread, or at least something close to correct.

How can I change this default name to something less cumbersome?
I've gotten into a bad habit of saving everything to the to the desktop for easy access and now I'm having screenshot overload !
i) when taking a screenshot is it possible to override the auto naming function i.e. open the shot to then save as? or
ii) is it possible to take a screenshot and auto-save it into a specific folder, rather than the desktop, even a single desktop folder would help me?
The desktop is a total mess and I've a 50 or so screenshots mixed in with everything else - each screenshot just seems to look for the next available space on the desktop !!!
I have quicktime videos of my kids skiing and I want to get some screenshots. How do I do this and where are they saved to?
