Ok, this one really baffles me. When my Mac Pro is turned off, turning it back on it does nothing but display red LED's internally. When I remove the cover and the internal clear plastic cover - it starts up. This leads me to believe there is some sort of switch which recognizes that the cover has been removed. However, I'm at a loss as to why the boot is failing in the first place.
View 14 RepliesMacbook screen went black even though the mac booted up properly - from the startup sounds. I took the back cover off and checked the power connector - it looked just slightly angled out so it probably was getting intermittent power [over last 2 weeks it would come on and but sometimes not until it died completely today]. Anyway, once I took the back cover off from the back [above the battery] and made sure the connector was secure it worked fine now. Might be a good tip for someone vs the time to go to the apple store.

View 2 Replies View Relatedpicked up a unibody last Saturday night, and opened the battery cover tonight. The latch was opened with little resistance, but now won't close. The latch edge sits about 1/8" up, and I can't find anything which would seem to prevent it from closing.
Anyone else had a troublesome battery latch, and how did you resolve it?
I'd like to be able to sort my downloads folder by Date, but have other places in the Finder sorted by Name. Is there any way to do this?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI've had my MacBook for around two months now, and I've noticed this problem ever since I got it. The screen looks sort of washed out, similar to issue the iPod touch had when it first came out. Blacks don't appear black enough. It looks fine if you're looking up at the screen, but if you look down to it, dark colors are too light. I've tried the color calibration, and it has helped a little, but the problem still exists. Is there a way I can get rid of this? I've posted some pics below. They were taken with my iMac's camera, so they aren't that good.

View 11 Replies View RelatedThis time I have a ntfs permission issue. I have a external ntfs HD with data on it. I can access most of the files correctly but some directories are marked with a little lock visible in Finder (see screenshot). I can open the files om the disk but when I try to cope then it says "Cannot copy file - unable to create file at the destination"
If I had a look at the permissions, they look fine:

The "destination" is my home dir but I also tried /tmp. And the user "me" is .. me
I'll be getting an 80GB Air this week and I'm trying to gauge how much space I'll use up. Right now I have about 80GB of space used up on my hackintosh, but allot if it is junk I probably won't transfer over. Is there a way to look at all the files on my computer in order from largest to smallest?

What's annoying with the new Expose is that is isn't very consistent.
Apps never open in either Cmd1 version (alphabetical) or cmd2 (sorted by apps), it uses some third option where sometimes your window is at the very last of the list.
Is there anyway to force sort by app or alphabetical?
I love iTunes, but why does it sort TV shows so bizarrely? Instead of putting my seasons of House like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 it does 1, 2, 5, 4, 3.

Simple question...I would like to use the same sort of layout there is on a mac for certain keys...like accents etc when using windows. You know how you can click alt-e to make an accent mark or control-shift-2 for the ? sign etc. I'm too used to it this way to use the old PC US layout. Is there a way to do this on the windows side?

If I could sort by type, then it would just be a matter of highlighting those and deleting. I tried sorting by kind, but since they are seen as Unix Executable files by the OS, it sorts them but not by .moi or .mod.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of PDF and other files in general that I would like to keep sorted by date. Normally in finder options I would sort them by date but the problem is that the bulk of them were added to my laptop by scanning, e mail hard drives so the creation dates of these files is not necessarily the same date as these statements. I tried naming theses files by date e.g. 10/02/12 etc but obviously this did not work as numbers are recognised in sequence and not by calender.

I read many messages about the (automatic) Internet Account sort that is done every time something is edited in the accounts list.I have followed the advice I found but with different results.But these methods, for me, do not "solve" my problem: when I have all my accounts in the right order, if I have to change something again, the sort is automatically done.
it's possible to disable the sort of the Internet Accounts?If not, could be a good feature in the next OS upgrades.
