I'll be getting an 80GB Air this week and I'm trying to gauge how much space I'll use up. Right now I have about 80GB of space used up on my hackintosh, but allot if it is junk I probably won't transfer over. Is there a way to look at all the files on my computer in order from largest to smallest?

I wish to have the folder show all documents bigger than a certain size (ie. video) appear in the folder. My next question, is can I then drag to the Trash from that folder and know that they're deleted from their original location. I have a root account enabled on my system which i was logged into to use this hint, i'm sure some of the more terminal thrifty users can chime in on how to do this through the terminal.
In the finder navigate to applications folder and right click on itunes and select Show Package Contents. Once Contents is open the path is Contents/Resources/English.lproj/TextStyles.plist. Right click on TextStyles.plist and open with Property List Editor.app. in Property List Editor.app locate 9003 and click the arrow next to it.
You will see 3 lines of settings on the FONT row i changed the font to LucidaGrange-Bold. on the SIZE line i changed 13 to 18. then save the file
I now have iTunes with a bold and larger font just the way i like it. Im a musician and use itunes to make my bands set lists I just take a screen capture of the list and print in preview.
All my smaller files show up as 4kb in finder. I know this is because on HFS+ that is the minimum allocation for a file, but it really doesn't help when trying to get a sense of how large files are when you're thinking of deploying them to the web, or glancing to see which are longer/which have been changed etc. is there any way to set Finder to display the size of files based on how much data is in them.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of PDF and other files in general that I would like to keep sorted by date. Normally in finder options I would sort them by date but the problem is that the bulk of them were added to my laptop by scanning, e mail hard drives so the creation dates of these files is not necessarily the same date as these statements. I tried naming theses files by date e.g. 10/02/12 etc but obviously this did not work as numbers are recognised in sequence and not by calender.

I need some help to convert .dv and .avi files to ipod touch compatible files using handbrake. When I try to choose either file type as the source file it just says 'no valid title found'.
The .dv file is a clip shot with my video camera and imported onto my mac using imovie, then saved as separate full quality file, in order to have a separate file that is not sitting in imovie.
The .avi file is a downloaded movie.
Both movies play fine in quicktime player and VLC player.
The Handbrake program does work as I have successfully converted a file ripped from a dvd using mactheripper.
I am surprised that I can't get it to work, as other threads on this forum recommends handbrake as the best software for video conversions for ipod.

how to sort files and folders by date. As all this data is from the last 5 years naming them alphabetically (jan 09, feb 10 etc) was not working. create names numerically yy/mm/dd. While this works I have many folders, sub folders and sub sub folders and it gets somewhat confusing at times. Is there some alternate solution so that I can name folders by month and year alphbetically and force Finder Column view to show me the list in the way I want ( such as Jan09, Feb 09, march 10, april 10 etc)

View 1 Replies View RelatedUnder Leopard and prior, in List view you can highlight a line by selecting anywhere on the line. However, to actually select the file to drag it, etc, you had to select the file name itself, clicking the date etc wouldn't allow you to drag the file.
Well, in Snow Leopard, you can now select anywhere on the line and it will allow you to drag the file(s). Pretty nice.
However.....this causes a weird UI issue. If the window you are working in is small enough so that the items in list view fill it up completely (so there is a scroll bar), you can no longer right click on any empty space or the date/filesize etc to pull up the contextual menu for example to create a New Folder.
If there is empty space below the file list, then it still allows you to right click to get the menu.
Dose anyone know an easy way of listing files and folders from a disk? I need an inventory of the names on some ZIP disks.

I originally used migration assistant from a Tiger MBP to this one & read that I may have corrupted Tiger P-Lists transferred over to my Leopard One. I would like to ask, how can I get rid of/delete my current preferences list to see if that fixes the problem - it did with another person who also transferred from Tiger to Leopard with Migration Assistant!
Will I lose anything by deleting the Preferences Folder/Files? I think I read somewhere that OS X automatically replaces them with current versions if that is correct? Ae Preference Lists taken care of too when deleting the folder/files?

I'm running Aperture 3.4.5 on a MacPro mid 2010. I import by reference into the appropriate project. The project's file directory is the same as the name of the project. I.E., screen shots from the Next Issue application are kept in a project called "Next Issue". The project keeps it's photos in a directory called "Next Issue". Â
As needs change files may be moved from one project to another. This causes a major problem as the files remain in their original location, i.e. are not moved to the directory associated with their new project. For example, the Next Issue screen shots show up in Photostream. I move the photos to the "Next Issue" project, but the original file still stays in the photo stream folder on disk.Â
The reason this matters is the disk with the pictures is duplicated and then connected to an Oppo media center. I find files I need on the Oppo by going to the directory associated with the files, i.e. "Next Issue". Since those files originally were in a photo stream directory they still reside there. So unless I can remember thousands of file locations it can't be found on the Oppo, which doesn't have a search function for an externally attached drive.Â
I suppose that I could go to each directory, select everything, and do a relocate master. But after a long night of organizing if I don't remember which projects where changed then that means relocating up to 100 directories and 70,000 files ….
