I think my superdrive died in my dual-core PM G5. This is what it's doing: I'll insert a DVD and it'll sit for a few seconds, then eject it. It DOES show up in my system profiler though. Is it dead, or is this a software problem? Oh- I should mention that the last thing I did was use Visual Hub to burn an AVI to a DVD. That worked fine. Afterward- nothing. I'm running OS 10.4.9. Help!

I have an iDVD project on an older macbook without a superdrive. The iDVD project is complete, but I can't burn the dvd. I also have a newer macbook with a superdrive. Is there a way to connect the 2 computers together so that I can use the super drive from the other computer to burn the iDVD project?

Just recently my Mac Pro has started to give me trouble reading DVDs. The DVDs are fine as they read perfectly on my MacBook, but on the Mac Pro, they just spin up a bit in there and never load. Every once in a while, a DVD will load just fine, but for the most part I can't get DVDs to play. I think I've noticed a pattern. CDs and single-layer DVDs load without a problem. It's the newer Dual-layer DVDs that just sit in there and fail to load. I remember hearing about a similar issue in Nintendo Wiis and that it was because the drive was probably dirty. Any tips on how to clean the drives and test that out?

OK so I bought the computer for 650 from my friend and soon after buying found a problem. The problem was the optical drive not reading all the disc that I put in the system. So I took the macbook pro to apple they installed a new super drive. I get home today and try to install snow leopard and have a issue. The way I went about was starting up holding the option button and waiting to boot from the disc for a fresh install. First time I tried I got a symbol that look like the restricted sign you see when you cant smoke in a area ect... So I restart and try again this time I get to the install screen click does the estimation ect.. 34 minutes than goes to 28 minutes pretty much has frozen there now, and after waiting all this time about 20 minutes I get the spinning beach ball. Also forgot to say that the super drive is now super dooper annoying loud and make odd sounds too with vibration. So I guess make another apple gen bar apt? And have them possible replace the super drive again?

My friend gave me his old Apple cube G4 + 15" Cinema display in like 1000 pieces. Its completely teared apart. I tried a lot, but it doesn't work. The original IDE cable wasn't included, so I bought one for 2 cents. It should work or not? Maybe the powersupply. I'm not sure. I don't believe actually that the hardware itself, like the motherboard is broken. When everything is into place and I connect the cube to the powersupply it boots immediately. I don't have to do anything. Harddrive spins and the superdrive makes some noise as well. This repeats itself every 5 seconds. The screen is connected and gets power through DVI, but no display. Both the cube and display have touch enabled buttons to switch it on, but they do not respond (I guess).. Motherboard gives 2 light. DS1 is green, DS2 is red.

It will draw them in, groan like it's about to spin up, pause, then groan some more. I hear it spin up a tiny bit, but not to the rate it usually does. The fact that it's spinning at all makes me think it's a read head/lens dirty problem.

Basically it doesn't want to burn DVDs ( fine on CDs though ).
I've read various ways to fix this such as zapping pram, SMC reset etc. and none worked. I also read that a cleaning disc might do the job.
So my question is, are these discs safe in a MacbookPro machine? And as I recall these discs have little bristles on one side - which way up should they go ( facing up or down )?

They were finalized and are able to play back on the Panasonic machine, but when I put them in my laptop it tells me I have inserted a blank disc. About a year ago the same discs played on my computer just fine, so I don't know what has happened since then. They also play on my Sony Blu-ray player, so I know it's not just the disc or the player. What has happened that now my Macbook is showing the DVDs as blank and what can I do??

The CD Drive is not DVD Capable. Whenever I put a CD in the drive makes noise then the cd comes out. I've tried the PC reset.
When i put in my Leopard install disc and hold the option key to boot from the disc, my macbook pro spits the disc back out. It will not load it. So i took my Tiger install disc and booted it and completely erased and repaired my HD. But still my macbook will not boot to the Leopard disc upon startup. It simply trys to load it, then sends it back out.

Lately my powerbook (12") seems UNBEARABLY hot. I use it on my chest/stomach while laying down. While I realize this is probably not ideal for the fan, it has never been this hot before. It is so hot I am breaking out in a sweat, and my small room becomes stifling (due to the door being closed with this heat source). I did send back my battery in the recall, but its not the battery side that is hot. Actually, its probably the coolest area. The hottest is the left side/top left. It seems to only get this hot while using the adapter. When it's running off the battery, it is only a bit warm (as expected). Does this mean my adapter is probably messed up in some way?
and FWIW, my dashboard CPU heat has it at 62C or 144F
My friend ripped a CD via EAC into FLAC files, so that I could then burn a CD-R copy. I've done this multiple times without issue. However, with this current rip, the total file size is 708MB and does not fit on a regular CD-R disc. I'm a bit confused because all the files were ripped from a single Red Book CD. Is there anything I can do to reduce the total file size so that it fits on a CD-R disc (without removing one of the files)?

It did the typical super glue thing when it dried; it turned to white hard stuff. You cannot see it that much when the screen is off, but it is noticeable when it is off. I was thinking about that super glue removal liquid; the stuff for unsticking unwanted objects together. Will this work/will it make it worse?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently burned a project to DVD. It's a data disc, and seems to have worked fine, about 1.2 GB of the four available on the DVD-R I burned with a Superdrive on my G4 desktop.
I told it to write session in Toast 7 Titanium, but when i try to burn something else to the disc, Toast rejects it. With DVD's, can you only burn one data disc? No multiple sessions? It's okay if this is the case, I just want to know.

When trying to burn a DVD via Finder, I get an error message of 'error code:- 0x8002006E and the disc wont burn. One time the disc wouldn't eject but I finally manged to do this via Disc Utilities. I have also tried to burn the DVD through Disc Utilities but it seems to get stuck when trying to create a new disk .dmg file.I recently had to have a new graphics card installed, and have had a few problems since with sleep and mounting external drives. Could this be connected?
