An error reading the disc keeps appearing. The disc drive works well otherwise. The software is new right out of the box. Are there any other ways to upgrade to Snow Leopard besides using a disc?

I have a 2007 Intel MBP, running Leopard. I purchased the family version of Snow Leopard. When I tried to install it, it just spins the disc for a minute, makes the noise like it's trying to read it and then spits it out. All other discs work fine with my MBP so I know it is not the disc drive itself. I have all software "up to date." My brother installed SL on both of his MBs, one newer than mine and one older, just fine (with the same disc). I haven't seen anything out there with this issue so I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone knows how to resolve this issue (beyond taking it back to Apple and exchanging).
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust recently my Mac Pro has started to give me trouble reading DVDs. The DVDs are fine as they read perfectly on my MacBook, but on the Mac Pro, they just spin up a bit in there and never load. Every once in a while, a DVD will load just fine, but for the most part I can't get DVDs to play. I think I've noticed a pattern. CDs and single-layer DVDs load without a problem. It's the newer Dual-layer DVDs that just sit in there and fail to load. I remember hearing about a similar issue in Nintendo Wiis and that it was because the drive was probably dirty. Any tips on how to clean the drives and test that out?
View 5 Replies View Related My friend is offering me his 2008 macbook pro for 650 should I do it here are the specs
Model Family: MacBook Pro
Display: 15"
Processor Type: 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo
Model Number: A1260
Color: Aluminum
Factory: China
Production Year:2008
Production Week:22 (May)
Production Number:774
200 gb hd
4gb of ram
also apple care til jun 11
OK so I bought the computer for 650 from my friend and soon after buying found a problem. The problem was the optical drive not reading all the disc that I put in the system. So I took the macbook pro to apple they installed a new super drive. I get home today and try to install snow leopard and have a issue. The way I went about was starting up holding the option button and waiting to boot from the disc for a fresh install. First time I tried I got a symbol that look like the restricted sign you see when you cant smoke in a area ect... So I restart and try again this time I get to the install screen click does the estimation ect.. 34 minutes than goes to 28 minutes pretty much has frozen there now, and after waiting all this time about 20 minutes I get the spinning beach ball. Also forgot to say that the super drive is now super dooper annoying loud and make odd sounds too with vibration. So I guess make another apple gen bar apt? And have them possible replace the super drive again?
When i put in my Leopard install disc and hold the option key to boot from the disc, my macbook pro spits the disc back out. It will not load it. So i took my Tiger install disc and booted it and completely erased and repaired my HD. But still my macbook will not boot to the Leopard disc upon startup. It simply trys to load it, then sends it back out.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI think my superdrive died in my dual-core PM G5. This is what it's doing: I'll insert a DVD and it'll sit for a few seconds, then eject it. It DOES show up in my system profiler though. Is it dead, or is this a software problem? Oh- I should mention that the last thing I did was use Visual Hub to burn an AVI to a DVD. That worked fine. Afterward- nothing. I'm running OS 10.4.9. Help!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an old Macbook via 2007 and I'm trying to update my operating system (currently OS 10.5.8) to Snow Leopard, but the disk is not reading in the disk drive. And unfortunately, Snow Leopard is only on a DVD, it can't be downloaded.I figure I have 2 choices:
1) take it in and spend $49 to have them do diagnostics and then tell me they probably need to replace the superdrive
2) I could buy an external optical drive. But I would need to know which one would be compatable with my old *** Macbook.

My 3 year old MacBook's ComboDrive doesn't work and I was wondering if I could Install Snow Leopard via a shared SuperDrive from a MacBook Pr over Wi-Fi. Is it possible to copy the installer locally and then install Snow Leopard or would I have to get an External SuperDrive?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi was wondering if it is possible to install snow leopard without a superdrive or the remote disc utility, but from an external hard disk drive which the snow leopard files have been put on.i have already googled to the end of the world. no success so far.

I just wanna know which software be available for read blu-ray commercial disc. I know on PC there is Power DVD but I don't know if it works between cross over. Else, VLC could be great but I'm really not sure. For the info, I'll probably buy the LG internal drive (ggc-h20L). I'm been informed by LG, it can read movie commercial disc. So, I just search a software who read Blu-Ray or convert in another case if it's not possible.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Panasonic DMR-EZ47V recorder and I've converted some of my VHS to DVD+R. They were finalized and are able to play back on the Panasonic machine, but when I put them in my laptop it tells me I have inserted a blank disc. About a year ago the same discs played on my computer just fine, so I don't know what has happened since then. They also play on my Sony Blu-ray player, so I know it's not just the disc or the player. What has happened that now my Macbook is showing the DVDs as blank and what can I do??

I placed a Hoyle card game disc into my Mac Mini and it does not seem to be reading the disc and now I do not know how to get the disc to eject. Before I just had to click on the eject icon at the top of the screen but it only says super drive in light grey. How do I get a disc to eject?

View 7 Replies View RelatedNow that it's been out for awhile, I was curious what people's success rates have been with just getting the Snow Leopard disc and not the box set to upgrade Tiger? Or is it still recommended to get the Box Set? I honestly rarely use either the iLife or iWork suites, so that's why I was wondering.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I had an aluminum 2008 unibody macbook. I replaced the hard drive with a 320gb and it has leopard on it. I damaged it and had to get a new mac. I now have a white unibody mac. To copy every thing would be a pain. I'd rather use snow leopard. What I want to know is if I can use the reinstallation disc 10.6 that came with the white macbook to upgrade my 320gb leopard hdd to snow leopard?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI obviously didn't choose my words correctly because everyone would rather pick apart what I said and did rather than acknowledging that...Apple sent me a scratched Snow Leopard disc. These things do happen so make sure you always backup your data and always check the disc before you put it in your computer. Even if its from a company you love and trust.
View 24 Replies View RelatedJust a quick question; I just received a SL upgrade DVD for one of my Macs, in the post, and it had the disc number: "2Z691-6557-A". I was a bit surprised that the DVD just came in a simple paper sleeve, tossed into a padded envelope with 2nd class postage. Is this the experience of others?. Also, is this particular upgrade DVD (with the same disc number as mine) capable of erase and install?. I don't like doing upgrades, I'd rather start fresh.
View 11 Replies View Relatedwith my Leopard installation i have a problem where it fails to boot up likely due to a previous unexpected power cut.
From googling the issue it seems like the only solution anyone has had to the same problem is to re-install.
However I've lost my Leopard system discs.
I booted into my Bootcamp Windows installation and installed the latest drivers from the Snow Leopard disc which i recently purchased (and came today)
This gave me the option to read files (and presumably copy) from the mac partition but no delete function.
I have two problems here:
1. I only have 2.61GB free on the mac partition, Snow Leopard requires at least 5GB. Since I can't boot into OS X and Windows can't write to the partition i can't delete any files.
2. My mac won't boot the Snow Leopard DVD for installation. I hold C while booting and it has no effect. It does however run the Hardware test if i hold D while booting.
I have an external drive i could probaly make enough room on to back up my entire osx partition for a totally clean re-install.
However this requires some sort of access to the drive/write capabilities. Maybe something like bootable linux?
And any idea why my disc won't boot? (even if i had enough space for a install...that would be a bit pointless if i can't get the disc to boot)
I'm looking at buying a macbook. The seller does not have the administrator password or the original Leopard 10.5 discs. Will this cause a problem if I want to upgrade to Snow?
