I think my superdrive died in my dual-core PM G5. This is what it's doing: I'll insert a DVD and it'll sit for a few seconds, then eject it. It DOES show up in my system profiler though. Is it dead, or is this a software problem? Oh- I should mention that the last thing I did was use Visual Hub to burn an AVI to a DVD. That worked fine. Afterward- nothing. I'm running OS 10.4.9. Help!

I have also checked the System preferences and I have marked ask what to do when a disc is inserted, but for some reason I can't burn or read any discs. I am using a Macbook 10.4.11.

I recently bought windows 7 for my macbook to run it with bootcamp, but everytime i put the disc in the driver it keeps on rejecting it. It ended up working eventually but I wanted to know if this happened to anyone else because my macbook can read every other of my CD's perfectly yet for some reason it has a hard time reading the windows 7. I tested the Same Windows 7 CD on my other computer and it works fine. Is anyone else having this problem?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue where the superdrive in my BRAND NEW mac pro isn't working correctly. It doesn't read DVD's consistently, System profiler hangs when you click on disc burning and after that the drive does not respond to eject commands. When you do get the tray to open, insert a DVD that is a known good disc, it will "mount" on the desktop then when you click on it, it hangs trying to read the disc. When you right click and select eject, the icon just goes away and the disc does not eject. A restart at least allows me to eject the disc. Resetting SMC has no effect on the drives behaviour. Or suggest a good aftermarket DVD drive?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using my MBA with an old Dell Inspiron laptop (running Vista) for the optical drive when necessary. I've installed software using remote disc with no problems (reinstall of OS, then Sibelius music notation software). I assumed I would also be able to read audio CDs or DVDs using remote disc, but every time I have tried this it doesn't work. The connection is fine, but the MBA is unable to find the data - one message I've had says it cannot find the original source (or something like that!). Does remote disc only work for software? Or might there be a way around this? I don't particularly want to use iTunes on the Dell as it's set up with my wife's account and even plugging my iPhone into it got it all confused.

I know the disc will boot as it works in my G4 powerbook.

I have tried everything, including copying over to external hard drive. I read that if you hold the mouse button down, the disc drive will open, but this hasn't worked.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 2007 Intel MBP, running Leopard. I purchased the family version of Snow Leopard. When I tried to install it, it just spins the disc for a minute, makes the noise like it's trying to read it and then spits it out. All other discs work fine with my MBP so I know it is not the disc drive itself. I have all software "up to date." My brother installed SL on both of his MBs, one newer than mine and one older, just fine (with the same disc). I haven't seen anything out there with this issue so I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone knows how to resolve this issue (beyond taking it back to Apple and exchanging).

Once the installation was done, I was able to access my laptop without any problem and I retrieved all my files from the USERS Folder. I tried to copy my old files to the external disk, before formatting the system’s internal drive and reinstalling OS X.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to burn a DVD of files I want to back up from my computer, and it gives me this error when I try to burn a DVD from the folder that my files are in. Finder gives no mention that there is a DVD in the DVD-drive, but it does pop-up with a message recognizing that a DVD was inserted initially. My drive has been working fine in the past, so this is something that has just recently happened to my computer. Does anyone have any ideas about this? My computer specifications are in my signature below and I'm running leopard 10.5.6.
The specific error message that I get is this "the disc could not be used because the disc drive is not supported." I did a google of this, but the results turned up stuff relating to 10.3 and 10.4, neither of which being relevant to my situation
I have a G4 PPC (specs below) and for some reason it won't read the install disks, or any other DVDs. When I put it in, however, it just does nothing, makes a few clicking noises, then spits it back out. Even if I start up holding C, it just waits till I let go then starts up normally and spits the disk out.
