I have an old 450mhz powermac g4 and about a billion old sticks of pc133 (and some pc100) ram.
So I have 3 128mb PC133 memory sticks, and when i put each in the powermac individually (as the only mem stick in the computer), they work fine.
However, if i put any more than one stick in the computer, it will turn on but not boot up or display anything.
I have a G3 iBook and just the other day the display stopped working. There were no signs of the display going bad, it's just went. Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
As the title says, I need a new monitor for my old G5 as the old monitor for it went bust. Apple does not make the old displays that came with the unit anymore and the only available monitor is the new LED ones ? but they all come with mini display ports
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor the past few months i have been using an external display hooked up to my 12" powerbook g4. I have had it on a dual display mode so no mirroring. Recently i would open the laptop lid waking it from being in sleep mode and my internal display will not turn on. The apply system profiler does not even recognize that the internal display exists. My external display works fine and has always been set as the main display. If i go to detect displays nothign happens. I have tried restarting the computer, instering system disks, unplugging the external and nothing has worked. I simply cannot get my internal screen to fire back up. When i used to unplug my external display the internal display would switch back to being the main display and everything would be fine. Now i cannot get the internal display to function whatsoever. Please try and help me as a need this laptop working and i will be ordering a mac pro soon for use with my external display.

I am in love with the 30" cinema display, but according to technical support today, my setup is not compatible (supposedly, but the person on the phone didn't sound to sure). I have a mini DVI, but the 30" requires a dual DVI. I think the 23" display requires DVI, which I can attain with an adapter. Does anyone have suggestions for what I can use with my computer? The bigger the better for me. Also what do you think of the older (plastic case) apple displays?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an iBook G4 1.07 GHz 30 gb 256 RAM with Panther. It was working fine until my HD got close to being full. Now I can't get it to boot past the Apple screen. It will either freeze there, or move on to the blue screen and freeze before the progress bar enters. I want to re-install Panther but I can't get any CD to boot during startup by holding "C", including the Panther OS CD, the Hardware Test CD, or the Tech Tool CD. I am able to boot to single user mode, where I type fsck -fy, and I recieve no errors with the hardware. I had this issue beore and my HD had to be replaced by Apple.

View 14 Replies View RelatedGot a Powerbook G4 with a "messed up" HD. Couldn't fix it, so got a firewire drive and ran a bunch of utilities from my newer intel iMac. Cloned the Powerbook's drive to a USB hard drive, did all repairs on the USB drive, formatted the Powerbook, cloned the USB drive BACK to the Powerbook, but it just gives me the flashing question mark when I try to boot.
What is REALLY weird is I can boot my iMac FROM THE CLONE ON THE USB DRIVE and it works fine.In Drive Genius the Powerbook drive (in TDM) shows as a single drive, but if I go to "Repartition" then it shows 3 smaller partitions on the drive; I believe they're called "Apple Free Space" or something like that (can't check right now, I'm running Repair on it AGAIN at the moment).
I feel like I'm missing something simple, like the machine just doesn't see one thing that tells it "Oh, yeah! There's an operating system on this drive!" I have tried partitioning from Drive Genius and Disk Utility. Have done clones back and forth with Drive Genius, Disk Utility, and Carbon Copy Cloner. Same results each time.
Just as the title says I have a Macbook 2,1 (2.16 c2d) and after booting into osx the display shuts off. I can use the notebook as a desktop with an external monitor. Any ideas as to how i can fix this?

don't know what happen since few weeks ago. OS X Tiger can't boot up, （blue screen and only have a mouse icon) only can boot up at safe mode (shift + power) and the screen have a lot of red square (display problems). use the install disk reinstall OX tiger 10.4.5 still the same do hardware test everything OK / now update to tiger 10.4.11 still the smae problems. my macbook pro using only 1 year, and i heard the news about many macbook pro screen have display problems so far.

My macbook pro (mid 2012) has started flickering badly upon boot-up. The display also jiggles up and down on occassion when loading web pages. I have upgraded to Mavericks and my MBP is usually hooked up to a large monitor. Problem just started happening.

I will be purchasing the new Core i5 15" MBP in a few weeks and have been reading a lot of good things about it. With all the good things I see a few bad. I was wondering if anyone with the new MBP could answer these questions?
1. Is the Display better than the last generations? ( In particular the high res)
2. Someone said in another post boot time is slower than the 2009 C2D MBP? Can a few people confirm this?
I have read a few people say the new screens are less brighter than previous models and this has me very concerned? Of course I hope they actually turned up the brightness setting before making such claims.
I've had with my mac in a few years of smooth sailing. I'll take that as a good thing.Anyway, my Mac Mini (PPC, 10.4.11) always just recognized the exact model/native resolution for my display... One day booting up it decided to boot into 800x600 for some reason. When trying to switch back in the system pref the native 1440x900 had DISAPPEARED from the list.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBeing the IT guy at work, I've inherited a (currently) non-functioning Dual 2.0 GHz PowerMac G5. It' exhibiting some pretty odd symptoms. Let me explain:
First of all, the problems started with the machine coming on (fans audible, Apple chime 'chimes'), but nothing was displayed on the
screen. This led me to believe if might be a video card issue, so we ordered a replacement from OWC and no dice. After trying this, I happened to leave the machine on unintentionally for a while, and after about 5 minutes, the fans ramped up to full speed, very loudly. Since we were in a bit of a time crunch (and it was out of warranty) we gave up on it, and purchased our graphics designer a new Mac Pro.
With a bit of googling, I determined that this sound a bit like a dead PRAM battery. So once again, off to OWC I went and purchased a replacement. I get it setup at home last night, and still no dice. If fires up just fine and chimes, but no image on the screen. And here's where it gets weird...
I powered the machine down, and took the cover off to check the PRAM battery again, thinking I may have inadvertently put it in backwards. It looked fine (fits both ways, BTW, so I'm still not 100% sure I have it in right), so I powered the machine backup--but without putting the cover on accidentally. The red light on the mobo came on indicating the cover was off, but I figured I'd wait to see what would happen first. Still nothing on the screen, so I popped the plastic shield in and latched the side cover, and BOOM! Wouldn't you know, it displays an image! I can see a folder icon with the Finder icon on it.
This is 100% reproducible every single time. If I turn it on with the cover ON, I can never get an image to display. However, if I remove the cover and plastic shield, fire it up, then replace the shield and cover, I always get the folder with Finder icon.This is quite perplexing. I should also note that I had my retail Leopard install disc in the drive the whole time, hoping to boot to the DVD if I got an image. It obviously wasn't automatically booting from the DVD, but instead would always display the Finder icon.
Being a post-PowerPC Mac convert, I'm not really sure how to proceed.I'm still not really convinced that there is an underlying hardware issue still, but I suppose it's a possibility.

so i put a vga to s video/rca to get my tv ( tv only has rca input) to work as a display for my comp,
but it does not pick up the tv when i plug everything in and detect displays, have checked a few times,
i learned that this cable (all like it too) need a video card that has tv output capability, but i cant figure out if my does or not
is there anyway this is possible without getting a new pci card
i dont really have the $ n kinda need the rest of my pci slots

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got an older 12" Powerbook off of eBay. The seller said that the display was damaged from a spill. When I received it, it powered on fine but I noticed that I could still see everything on the screen, just had to look real close or open things up against a white background. I assumed that it needed a new inverter board. I got a working one but when I installed it, it didn't solve my problem. So I pulled a working screen (display, lcd, inverter, etc.) off of another 12" Powerbook and installed it. The screen is still dim! Does anyone know what else I can do to solve my problem?

View 16 Replies View RelatedMy second problem with my PowerBook G4 DVI 667Mhz is that the screen goes about a half inch off the right and bottom of the display. So unless I position the dock on the left, I can't see it if it's placed on the bottom or right of the screen. I also have to drag any icons that show up on the right of the screen to the middle because I can't see them except for their very edge that appears on the screen. This has happened with OS X 10.3, and still after I installed OS X 10.2.
