View 1 RepliesMy brother's ibook (14", 1.33 Ghz, 1.25 GB RAM, 10.3.9) recently developed a problem: when he would open it, the screen would show fuzzy lines for a few seconds before "stabilizing." He tried to live with it, but it got progressively worse. Now, the lines never disappear, and the screen flickers as well.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have had my Laptop for over 3 years now and with really no significant problems. A couple of days ago though, my laptop display got 3 vertical black/white/black bars on the right third of the screen and I am just curious if it is dying. I am connected to an external display and it's been awhile like this, but it makes it impossible to use as a laptop anymore.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using a MacBook Pro which was bought in 2007 and running the old OS X (i.e. the one before Leopard just because I've been lazy and haven't upgraded). My MacBook Pro has recently (as in the last few days) started freezing up. I'll be using it normally and all of a sudden it will just freeze and these strange shaded vertical bars appear across the screen. I then hold down the power button and reset it only to get a screen saying, "You need to restart your computer etc." I then restart the system and normally get this screen again a few times (infuriating) or I boot it in safe mode holding down the 'shift' key. I've run 'verify disk' as well as 'repair disk permissions'. I've also got a mate to check it and load it into Mac's version of 'DOS' and rebook it from there. He said he doesn't understand why I'm having any problems.
I've got a heap of disk space so it should be that. It was working fine all yesterday, and just again today has thrown in the towel on me again. Basically, does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong? I'm not putting it under any stress (i.e. demanding programs) and the freezing has been randomly occurring when I'm web browsing/watching YouTube or using Excel/Word. Should I backup my music, photos and essential documents and just wipe the thing clean and start over? I don't really want to do this as will mean I have the expense of getting an external hard drive and all that. I haven't changed anything or downloaded any programs recently that I can think would be causing these problems.
I've just switched from an iBook to a MB. My iBook always displayed 4 bars of wifi here at home (my wireless router is in the same room). But my MacBook often displays only 3 bars in the same room. What could be causing this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedTwice in the last couple of days, these white and gray vertical bars/lines would appear on my IMAC screen. In between those times, my screen just went black, but I can tell the IMAC was still on, because it wasn't a pitch black as if the computer was off. Each time, the only way I could get the screen to appear back to normal was to turn off the computer and turn it back on?
This is not good. This is my second MAC. The first one after a year and a half, just poofed up in smoke. (Seriously, that is exactly what happened. I was sitting there, and all of a sudden the screen went black and a puff of smoke appeared from the back.) And now after owning this second one for almost two years, I've suddenly started getting these vertical white and gray bars and the black screen.
Anyone have any idea? I was simply looking up info on a website when these events happened.

My problem is a screen that is lit but grey, with vertical lines very faint in the background. when connected to a monitor all is well. I have replaced the screen with a second hand one from ebay and it is exactly the same. what is more likely- both screens are duff or is there something obvious i'm missing. i was given the ibook by a friend replaced the harddrive and gave it to my son and it worked for six weeks perfectly until the display suddenly went never to return.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy PB/667 took a fall about 18 mos ago. It's been fine ever since, except there is a single vertical line RIGHT DOWN THE CENTER - top to bottom. It's about two pixels wide and appears to be a bright green/near white color. Any display pixes that fall on this line are not visible.
A coworker suggested that this could be fixed but didn't offer how. Have any of you heard of this sort of issue? Is it fixable?
Continues to run but screen is off. Will sometimes come back on after a few minutes. Works fine after unplugging and letting sit for a while.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe other day the screen started blinking randomly. It'll flicker for a few seconds and then go white with vertical grey lines for a few seconds. Then it will go back to normal. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it. Sometimes it will go through that process for five minutes and then stop. Other times I can be working on it for hours and nothing will blink or act screwed up.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy mac screen is frozen with white fuzzy lines going across the screen. I shut it off and turn it back on but it still remains white fish lines on the start up screen. I've tried revolting it, it works sometimes but now its stuck at the starting screen. I have been at this for 2 hours to try and fix it but nothing has changed about the screen.
View 1 Replies View Relatedare these two LCDs swappable? Can I stick a G3 iBook Screen into a G4? I have no idea and I'd like to have some idea.
does the hinge and everything line up, too?
just installed 10.5.6 on their last gen. iBook. She left the iBook plugged in to the mains and came back to find that the iBook was alternating between the grey Apple screen and a light blue desktop screen where she could see the cursor. Sometimes it would also switch to a blue screen without a cursor.
I've tried holding shift during startup - no effect.
I've tried rebooting NVRAM - no effect.
My iBook will not display anything on its screen. Rather, it just remains black. One time, the screen did come on, but then shortly after booting, it flickered a lot and then went black again. A year ago, something similiar happened and when I took it to be serviced (when I had AppleCare), they had to send it away and have a new logic board installed. Now this machine is out of warrenty and and I am not sure what to do, or even if it is the same problem. Any suggestions?? Thanks!
View 1 Replies View RelatedEver since I sold it here on MR and got it back, there has been a problem with my 12" Dual USB iBook G3 500MHz's screen (lord, that's a long name). Whenever the screen is tilted back farther than 45 degrees or so, the backlight shuts off. I can open the casing and fix it if it's possible. Does anyone know what the problem with it is? I'm trying to get it fixed up and ready to sell back to my friend as his first Mac, and I'm trying to get every problem resolved

View 10 Replies View RelatedSince yesterday, my screen has been acting really wierd. Every few hours, the screen goes all fuzzy with a bunch of white lines on it, and it becomes completely unusable. It only happens for a few seconds each time (fortunately, it's fine right now), but it's kinda got me worried because I need to keep this computer for 2 more years before getting a new one, and I can't afford to fix it. I can't stop using it because I need it for school, so if it breaks, I'm completely screwed.
View 4 Replies View Related...as the color green becomes dominant. The background on the browser is a faded greenish color, and the desktop image is degraded. Got some dandy streaks too! Searches say maybe logic board, but the guy I bought it from said it had a new logic board installed. Cables was a thought, but rotating iBook does not effect changes. I've shut it down for the moment, but am anxious to pinpoint the problem?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi had my laptop on the floor in front of the recliner i was sitting it, i took the remote that i had put on the chair and fumbled it as i took it off of the chair. It fell about 2.5 feet straight onto my laptop and hit the screen. It bounced off of the the case in-between the hinge and the screen and then hit the screen about 2.5 inches up from the bottom. It made a crack from where it hit all the way to the top corner going at about a 45 degree angle to the left. Then the cat ran out of the room when i started cursing about my fumbling. There aren't any dead pixels some how, but it does have several cracks. Is there a plastic shield before the LCD layer? if anybody has a spare 14" ibook LCD screen from a 1.42GHz i book, i have money if you don't need it. Its not under warranty by the way.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI own a MacPro1,1 that has a Geforce 7300 GT running on it. That video card comes with one Dual-Link DVI port, and anonther that is Single-Link. I just bought a Dell 30" 3008WFP monitor that has a max resolution of 2560x1900.
When I first connected, it worked great. I was getting the max res; life was good. Then I started getting this random green fuzzy screen that would come and go at whim. I couldn't reproduce it, and worse was I have not figured out a way to get rid of it. Early on, just unplugging and replugging in the cable worked. Then that stopped working. Rebooting stopped working. Once i was able to get the green to go away by powering down the display and powering it back up. Yes, totally random.
Here are some more facts:
1. Setting a lower resolution doesn't rid me of the green fuzz effect.
2. If i connect to the same monitor using the single-link DVI port, everything works great, but only reaches 1920X1600 (as expected).
3. Connecting to different monitor using the Dual-Link DVI port works fine, albeit that the other monitor has a lesser max resolution.
4. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and I have all my software updates in place.
5. I've attached a screenshot of what this looks like.
I purchased Snapz Pro X to record screen capture footage for a project I am doing. After recording the .mov files I imported them into FCP and edited together a sequence along with music and titling. Unfortunately in the output video the footage looks compressed and fuzzy. I have the project resolution set to an HD setting, but I'm still getting a fuzzy looking screen shot. What is the proper way to import screen captures into FCP and how do I export them without loosing resolution.

I have seen this talked about a fair bit, but i thought i'd start my own thread because it seems slightly different.
To start, when the computer was last running, the (what sounded like fan) started making a terrible noise, then stopped, and the computer turned off.
After that, when booting, it just goes to a grey/blue screen and sits there.
I have an iBook G4, 1064mhz, 256/30.
I dont know what model that makes it, but from the Mac website, I have tried to reset the PRAM to no avail. All of the methods listed do not seem to do anything on my ibook.
I tried using this link to reset the [URL]
I dont know which one is for my model, but i see no reset button under the keyboard, or on the case. There is a little tiny hole on the case beside the LCD???
I have tried the shift-ctrl-opt-power but it doesnt do anything.
As well, i did hold down the "option" button when booting, and it brings me to a screen which shows an image of a hard drive with a green "x"
I dont know if the green means good or the X means bad..
I have read that resetting PRAM and/or changing the resolution seem to help the problem, but I do not know how to do either.
When I sleep my iBook (indigo clamshell), it does not dim to a black screen like it is supposed to...Instead I het a multicolor static looking screen...the hard drive does appear to power down and the green light slowly blinks as usual in sleep.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy wife has a three-year old iBook G4 and yesterday while she was doing some work, the screen just went black. By the time she brought it to me the machine was shut down. I hit the power button and it started to boot up, but about five seconds later it shut itself down again.
I kept playing with it and I was able to get back in to OS X and I played with it for a few minutes and all seemed fine. I then shut the screen and put it to sleep, then when I tried to wake it back up it shut itself down once again.
After a few more tries of getting it back in to the OS I was able to get all her files off the hard drive, but the problem is still there.
My guess is that it's the logic board, but that's just a guess.
When I boot up this ibook it works fine for a little while then it gets all wavy and crashes. Would this be the screen, board, or the connector? Everything looks solid.
View 10 Replies View Relatedafter my six year old daughter dropped it(on hardwood floor).
I tried this:
<command> <opt> <p> <r> Letting it chime 4 times. But, no luck - it just sits there witht the gray screen/dark gray apple logo and that thing twirling around like it's thinking.
check that I've left it on and it has now worked its way to the blue screen. Cursor shows up and the twirling thing is gone(as are the little clicking noises inside like it's actually trying to do someting).
Now you're really going to let me have it. I don't have any of my original disks.
Guess I should take it to the Apple store and see what they say(no applecare).
I was running Tiger(latest version) and the ibook G4 is a 1.33 with 768mb of ram if that matters.
Luckily all my photo's and music are on my powerbook and mac mini.
