I searched forums etc. I have a 867 12" powerbook. The problem is that it will not turn on at all. I took the battery out and pressed a few key and it worked for a little while. Now when I plug it up to recharge the light goes green to red then off. I found a so called reset button on the apple site and lifted the keyboard and it is not in site.

Basically I'm having issues with my newly acquired Powerbook G4. When i bought it the battery was not working at all so have now installed a new replacememnnt battery which works fine but having some slight issues. So...
First time I charged it, it reached 100% but green light never came on to indicate full charge. When I run the PB off the battery it gets to 20% and it shuts down without any warning it's low on battery (trying to switch it on after this is impossible, it clearly has no life) After the above I connect the power lead and start up the computer, the battery indicator starts charging from 20% onwards. Something fishy definitely going on and I have no idea what it could be, I calibrated the battery but it has always cut off at 20% since first charge/discharge.
About a week ago I received my new battery due to the recall. The last few days my power book has been great when I open my power book today it will not wake up. So i figured I would plug it in. The light stays green, does not change to orange, and still continues not to wake up. Even taking the battery out and trying to turn it doesn't work. Power cord stays green then as well.

I unplugged the power adapter and tried again. I knew that my battery was dying before this (could only get about 30 min on a charge). But now I cannot start my Powerbook. Whenever I plug in my power adaptor, there is no green/orange light. However, when I take the battery out, I hear the Powerbook trying to start up (hard drive spin). But then there is nothing but my fans on full blast! They will not stop and there is nothing on the screen. I left it there for a good 5 min and nothing changed!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been asked to take a look at a friends white macbook that won't power on. I've tried resetting the smc etc., with no joy. The battery charge indicator shows 1 fully lit green light and the magsafe connector also is green. Pressing the power button doesn't do anything, no lights, beeps etc. I've tried another power adapter and the magsafe light remains green when connected but the battery still shows 1 green led. Considering the macbook thinks its charged but the battery isn't, is this a dead logic board? Or something else? This macbook is well out of warranty.

I left for 6 hours and came home to a non working Powerbook G4. The green powerlight does come on. I let sit for one day. Still nothing.

I noticed only a couple of days ago the little green light on the connection flickered a couple of times. I took the extension off the lead and used the plug on the power box. I also took the battery out and put it back in.

I have a 2008 Macbook and when the power is plugged in, the light is green, however my battery will not charge, and it even says at the top "battery is not charging" If I remove the power cord from the computer it will still run off the remaining % of the battery, but If I reconnect the cord it lights up green and I never see the amber charging color. I traded out my battery as well as a different cord and still the same results. My battery will charge up on a friends macbook, but not on my own. I want to take it to the apple store but I'm at school and there is no store near me.

I have had problems with the adapter before and just reconnected the power a couple of times and it starts to charge again and the light turns orange but if I touch the adapter now the computer shuts down.

I've got a G4 iBook that came in because the user thought the battery was dead. I tried the usual fixes, PMU, NVRAM, PRAM, different power adapter, etc. When I ran some tests (Coconut Battery) to see if the above worked, I found that the problem wasn't the battery (it still has 3888 mAh out of 4400). The symptom: The AC light alternates between green and amber even though the battery is only at 18% charge. It will stay amber for about 45 seconds then switch to green, vice-versa. It has been plugged in now for 2 hours + and has gone from 16% to 18%, so it does seem to be charging. I have adjusted the power saver so that the machine doesn't go to sleep or have the display dim as I thought sleep mode may have something to do with it.

I had an iBook, now I have a powerbook. Both have the feature when I shut the computers and they are in sleep mode, the light goes from dim to bright to dim to bright..... It drives me nuts. I have to put my computer in a drawer or cover it up at night. Does anyone know how to turn the light off? or have it be constant? Is there a download that fixes it?
View 24 Replies View RelatedMy powerbook G4 has a button thats used to unhinge the LCD screen and flip the computer open. When I flip it open, the light turns on, but it should be off. If I pull the LCD screen forward as if I am going to close the screen, the light turns off as I am pulling the screen forward. As soon as I stop the motion, the power light goes back on. Its very odd.
View 10 Replies View RelatedThis may have been posted earlier, so sorry is this is a repeat. I've had this PowerBook since the first 17" versions came out in early 2003 and it has worked wonderfully. It even came adrift on a bicycle one day (strap broke with a brand new sleeve bag) it skidded down the road and bashed into the curb... still kept working.... other than a couple of dents and a lid that never closed again quite so well, it has been a fab machine.
Anyway, a few months ago the screen started occasionally going a green/blue tinge, almost like very fine stripes down the screen. A wriggle of the screen seemed to fix it, but it has now become quite bad, and stays like that for most of the time. I figure it must be the connection to the screen from the system, as when using the laptop for presentations (connected to a projector) all is good.
So my question is, does anyone know a easy fix? I heard that the wiring is built in, and needs the screen replacing, which doesn't make sense given it's nearly 5 years old.
I have a 12 inch powerbook g4 Aluminum and the screen is dim,and discolored in some areas but it is really bright at the bottom like it supposed to be brighter.is it the backlight and inverter or is it just the lcd? it works flawlessly other than that.

The battery indicator showed one flickering power circle. The adaptor has the green circle on it, indicating the battery has a full charge. However, the computer won't charge up.I've read the 12 inchers don't have separate PMUs. Could that prevent the machine from starting? She was using it earlier this evening, as she e-mailed me pictures from our vacation.

No chime and black screen, any suggestions on what it might be...im thinking logic board, if so what ones will fit that model

For this reason, is it better to just power it off the powersupply and take out the battery? Any harm done in having the battery there and charging for extended periods?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ibook G4 (2years old, a part of the battery swap program) that charges normally... for about twenty minutes. Then the light around the charger turns from it's normal "i'm charging" orange to nothing, the light goes out and the ibook switches to battery power. I've just inspected the power chord and there are no strains or tears, the plug at both ends are in good condition and the ibook power socket is fine too.
I've turned the ibook off for a period of time (two days) and reset the power manager... still no difference. The ibook looks and acts just like it should until about twenty minutes into the charge then the light turns off and it's like it's been disconnected. The chord is in correctly, i've even tried the apple extension chord = no joy. If i reconnect the power chord at the wall it's fine, starts charging again... and yes i've tried different sockets on different circuits in the house!
It got REALLY hot. I had to snap my hand back after touching it, and my hand was red. I noticed it had turned off, so I went to see what was the matter. It felt hot enough to possibly catch fire.

The laptop was free, but the power cord will apparently not be so I expensive. Basically PowerBook will be used for writing papers, other non-Internet stuff I need to do this year (senior in high school). Right now I am using my iPod touch as my primary computer. My question is, should I go ahead and just pay the money for a power cord or should I just suck it up and wait until may-isu when I get a new notebook? Obviously I'd like to avoid paying a lot but would the money for a new cord be worth it? If not I could always use google docs for papers when I'm not at the house, how advantageous would having an actual notebook be
I recently tried to upgrade my powerbook with a new HD (see but forgot to format the drive before trying to install the operating system. I gave it another go last night but with the new disk installed and everything back in place, it would not power back up. I took it to bits again and checked everthing was connected including the little ribbon cable from the keyboard but still nothing. I put the old disk back in with the same results. there is no response from the power key at all. Everything is pushed home where it should be so I'm a lttle worried about what could have happened.

What is the best way to do it?- I could attempt to open the case and remove the harddrive myself, get a 2.5-to-3.5-inch harddrive adapter for about $10, and put it in my Mac Pro. From what I've read this would work, although I've never tried anything like it and I'm not sure how hard it would be.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a PowerBook G4 1.67 that shut itself down sometime during the day yesterday, and will not power back up. It's completely unresponsive to the power button, with no signs of life whatsoever.
I've tried resetting the PMU. There has been no new hardware or software installed. This has been tried with 2 batteries, and 2 AC power supplies.
There is inconsistency with the color of the AC power supply tip, as it doesn't seem to indicate the strength of the battery. Regardless of which battery or how much charge is left, the tip is Green, and will flicker Yellow very quickly once, when plugged in. It was Green following the initial shutdown, Yellow when I placed a dead battery in it, and then eventually turned Green. Now, it seems permanently in the Green / flicker Yellow state.
It did fully charge one battery while like this.
My brother has a second gen, 800Mhz eMac (the one that could be overclocked to 1.33Ghz - the earlier PC133 ram model). Since about 1.5 mths ago, when he powers it on, sometimes it will not power on, and other times it will give three beeps (diagnostic pages say bad RAM) and a flashing power/sleep light in unison with the beeps. Did this vintage suffer bad caps? I recall that it was only the 1.25Ghz model that had bad caps, but I could be wrong.
