I have a 12 inch powerbook g4 Aluminum and the screen is dim,and discolored in some areas but it is really bright at the bottom like it supposed to be brighter.is it the backlight and inverter or is it just the lcd? it works flawlessly other than that.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had an iBook, now I have a powerbook. Both have the feature when I shut the computers and they are in sleep mode, the light goes from dim to bright to dim to bright..... It drives me nuts. I have to put my computer in a drawer or cover it up at night. Does anyone know how to turn the light off? or have it be constant? Is there a download that fixes it?
View 24 Replies View RelatedMy powerbook G4 has a button thats used to unhinge the LCD screen and flip the computer open. When I flip it open, the light turns on, but it should be off. If I pull the LCD screen forward as if I am going to close the screen, the light turns off as I am pulling the screen forward. As soon as I stop the motion, the power light goes back on. Its very odd.

I took the battery out and pressed a few key and it worked for a little while. Now when I plug it up to recharge the light goes green to red then off. I found a so called reset button on the apple site and lifted the keyboard and it is not in site.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was using my trusty powerbook 500 mhz and when i closed the screen while the machine was on, after @ 1/2 hour i opened the screen up and NOTHING!. i restarted and nothing again, the caps lock key will light up, so i am assuming the power supply is ok. No chime and black screen, any suggestions on what it might be...im thinking logic board, if so what ones will fit that model

View 2 Replies View RelatedI acquired a gimped Powerbook G4 from one of our 'daughter' companies. The laptop works fine when using the A/C adapter. If I unplug the A/C adapter while the power is on, the screen/keyboard lights will go off. However, the hard drive is still spinning. If I plug the A/C adapter back in, the LCD backlight comes back on, but it does not display what was on the screen. I have to hold the power button down for a few seconds to power it down completely. Upon turning it back on, everything works fine again. Does this sound like a battery issue or motherboard problem? I have checked the battery serial number against the recall list and this one is supposably good.

Looking at a PowerBook that has Applecare - The screen in the listing picture is not too bright. The seller has stated that all is well with the screen, but you never know. I am prepared to go for it if the Applecare covers the screen lighting. Applecare cover on notebooks appears to be worldwide - If the screen lighting conks out overseas, I can get it fixed at the local Apple Store?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I've got a powerbook G4, thats 8 days past its warranty. Conveniently, it now won't turn on. It won't wont boot from CD. If I turn it on, I get a gray screen that usually just turns my computer back off, if thats not the case I get a screen that shows the finder icon and a question mark and then turns off.
All it will do is boot into open firmware mode. Currently the install disc is inside of it and I've tried booting the cd using "cd:, bxi" and "dir hd", and it can't open both. Does anyone know how to wipe the HD, and start the installer using firmware? Otherwise, I think I'll have to take out the harddrive and plug it into an external case and then wipe it.
I am leaving for a week long trip and many parts of it will not be able to run the computer off of the powercord, which is a problem because I get about 40mins of wordprocessing use out of it when I run the battery alone. Can someone explain what the significance of these levels are for my Powerbook G4 15'' (Alm) 1.25GHz, namely the cycle count and full charge/remaining capacity?

I have a new 2012 Macbook pro 17 and a 27 inch thunderbolt display.
The Macbook was working great. Then I connected it to the thunderbolt display and did clamshell mode. That worked well too. But.. then I powered down the macbook, disconnected the thunderbolt dislplay and tried to boot back up again. The mac book powers on, the back light comes on, I hear the chime then that is it. The back light stays on nothing else happens. Resetting the PRAM can not be done. Any of the boot options are ignored. It is like the keyboard is non resposive. I tried all the reset and boot combinations available but nothing works.
The light on the front of the macbook comes on then goes dim. The apple logo on the lid stays lit, and if I close the lid, the apple logo goes dim and the light on the front lights up. Weird, it is almost like it goes to sleep when it turns on. I tried conntecting the thunderbolt again but no joy. I am really disappointed. This is less than a month old and its already going in for repair. It should be replaced.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo a friend spilled some liquids on his new macbook pro 13 5,5.Unibody The keyboard no longer worked, the hd was fried, so he gave it to me and switched to PC's . I replaced the HD, and connected an external keyboard.
Luckily nothing else was effected and it powered up. What I find strange is that the back light still works although NONE of the keys do. The power button and the trackpad still work as well.
I have accepted that I have to purchase a costly top case, but could i not just replace the keys?
This is something that has happened since my initial installation of XP on my bootcamp partition. Whenever the light sensor detects low light, the backlight turns on at full blast. This is normal. However, when I go to turn the backlight off completely (as to save battery or if I'm watching a movie in windows and I don't want to see the keyboard lit up) it turns it down, but not completely off. Even though the backlight indicator claims that it is down the whole way, it never completely turns off. In OSX when I do this, it turns it completely off whenever I set it to the same setting.
has anyone had something similar in their MBP or any ideas of what is wrong? Is it just something with the drivers?

Anyway, all of sudden, any motion I make kills the backlight of the screen. In the right light you can still see things and the computer still works perfectly, just extremely hard to see. Have to do a restart in order to get going again.
I got a 2008 MacBook that has a misbehaving backlight. Just recently, the backlight refused to go on for any amount of time.Toggling the brightness from (0) to (1) bar turned it on for varyings amounts of time lower than one second.I continued to toggle the brightness in this fashion to use the computer for a time.Occasionally, the screen would remain lit for a little over a second and dim again.I changed the power settings from power saving to performance and back to power saving.Then, I opened up Chrome and the backlight remained on.It still remains on, as I am somewhat unwilling to test opening and closing the screen.I can, however, now vary screen brightness fully.tl;dr - Backlight was finicky, but is now functioning normally.I suspect the backlight is going to malfunction completely in the near future.

My 2.2GHz MacBook (3,1) has had an issue for some time now. At first the backlight would flicker as you moved the display from closed to open. The backlight stayed lit through most of the travel. It's gotten progressively worse lately where it will only stay lit at certain angles, and is otherwise black (you can still see the display in sunlight though). Right now it'll only stay lit if I open it very slowly and stop once it lights up.
As I don't have a ton on money to spend, I don't want to just throw parts at it. What could be the issue? Since when it lights up it lights up full brightness and stays lit, I don't think it's an inverter issue. Could it be the inverter board cable?
I finally purchased my dream laptop a month ago and it has been great so far until I ran into this strange issue. It seems when the backlight it set to below 50% and either my hands are on the side/bottom or I'm slightly moving or tilting the laptop the backlight goes into this weird super-bright state for a few seconds. When this happenes there are even brighter circle shapes near the dock area. Problem is this only happens sometimes and I cant seem to replicate it with a certain action. I'm not sure what will happen when I take it into the store. If anyone can shed any light onto similar problem

When I close the lid or when I manually try to make it sleep from the apple menu, it goes into sleep mode put only for 1 second and then shuts off (crashes). So instead of being able to wake up the computer, I have to boot it up from off.
View 3 Replies View Relatedso i installed windows 7 on bootcamp, i noticed that the keyboard backlight keys to adjust the keyboard backlight arent working. then i switched over to the mac os, and it also stopped working there!
whenever i press the keys, the transparent box shows up but the bars do not move, it is currently off, and it also has that crossed out circle symbol.
But i do not want to connect with USB or Fire wire, I would prefer to do it wireless with a NAS drive is this possible. I do not want to have to connect more wires all the time. I would like it to automatically back uo with time machine when i am at the office.
View 6 Replies View RelatedUp until recently my PowerMac G5 has performed as it should for a computer its age. About two nights ago it shut itself down and I haven't been able to turn it on since. Power does cycle through the unit because all the fans will either cycle once or twice, or at the very least they will twitch. And now there's a tiny red LED on the motherboard and behind the power button that lights up whenever I try to power on the computer. I'm at a loss for where I need to go from here, though I feel rather certain that my computer has simply passed on. It's an original 2004 1.6 ghz single processor PowerMac G5, serial number unknown, since I can't turn it on.
