View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble figuring out how to set up my Time Capsule. So I have two computers at home, a router and a Time Capsule. I mainly use the Time Capsule to back up my computers and transfer stuff between them. I also have roomies which I don't wanna give access to the Time Capsule without my permission, I'd just like to allow them to connect to get some files every now and then and that's it. That's been my problem, my roomies are having trouble with the internet connection because of my Time Capsule.

I have a .mac/mobileme account, so all of my messages and contacts are syncing, but I really want to have my apps (and their data) along with my music and videos restored - especially before my long flight home.
I travel every week and each week I have to decide whether to use my tethered iPhone (not jailbroken) or the hotel Wifi. I pick which ever one seems fastest.
What I would like to do is combine both of these connections together and get better speeds. Or possibly assign one connection to one application (skype) and the other connection to firefox.
I'm abroad at university and the school has a pretty wicked proxy that prevents Xbox Live from getting through. I asked an IT guy about it and he said, "Man, I wish we could use it. I just don't know if it's possible." I took that as permission to try. I decided to log on to the school network with my iBook (old school, I know) and share my connection with my Xbox. I followed one of the many, many guides available online and set everything up. When I test my Xbox Live Connection, it connects to the network, accepts my DNS settings and then says, "Xbox can't access the internet." My computer is accessing the internet just fine, but my Xbox can't?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem with my iBook G4. I cannot get access to the Internet at all. I connect using a TimeCapsule. In total I do have 3 Macs, 2 of them connect just fine just my old iBook gives me headaches. It doesn't acquire a correct IP address either.
I do connect over Wifi. The Wifi symbol in the menu bar gets all bars on the iBook and the TimeCapsule does show 4 connected clients ( I do guess my iPhone is one of them).
So - two Macbook Pros and one iPhone connects just fine to the Internet using this TimeCapsule. It does show 4 connected clients and I do get all the bars in the menu bar on the iBook.
The iBook doesn't get a correct IP address (that is my guess as it totally different from the two Macbook Pros). The iBook runs 10.5.5.
I have a PowerBook G4 with bluetooth, can I use internet on it through my (to get) iPhone with bluetooth? Will it cost more of iPhone's battery life?

I just recently installed Windows 7 on my macbook pro. Everything seemed to work well, especially after I installed boot camp for windows and its drivers.
However I can't seem to connect to the internet. My router is detected but when I select to connect to it I get no internet access.
currently I connect to the internet by doing this: Go to System Preferences / Network. Then I select my internet provider name on the left pane and finally click on the Connect button. That's all. This internet profile has a PPoE service name, an account name and a password. My internet connection uses a cable DLink router (it's not wireless).
Question:
1) Does the password I mentioned above mean that my neighbors can't access my internet, or are they able to do that and, in this case, I need to set another password somewhere else?
2) If I need another password, how and where do I set it,

I have a TC set up at home and it works fine, just looking to get more out of it now, if possible. I run a small business and I want a contract employee to be able to access it for file use in a windows program. He lives in another state.
1. How can I direct him to my TC via internet? He only works in windows. Basically, I want him to have read/write access to my TC.
2. Obviously if number 1 can work, then how can I, using my MBP, connect to my TC when I am away from it (not home).
Do I do this with IP addresses and workgroups? If so, I don't know how to set that up.
Where and how to setup my MP so it doesn't wake up when I unplug things like iPhone etc from the usb? Is there such an option?

She is currently in Tanzania, so I am trying to help her over the phone.It is a K3565-z Vodacom Internet dongle, and it has worked perfectly fine for the last 2 months. Now it suddenly stopped working and she un-installed the software used for logging on in her attempt to fix the problem. There are only Windows files on the USB stick now, and no internet connection.If she goes to the Network settings she can see the modem.

How can I setup my iMac so I can connect to it's hard drive, files, etc over the internet? I'd like to connect to my iMac at home from my macbook while not at home. I'm familiar with connecting to my iMac from the "shared" section in the finder while i'm at home and in my home DSL network, but how would this work if I'm outside of my home DSL network?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently own a Macbook I purchased in January 2009. A few days ago I installed Boot Camp Agent so I could use it to play certain games I could not run using Parallels. I downloaded Boot Camp following the directions it comes with. (Installed Windows XP Pro, then installed Mac OSX Leopard 10.5). Everything works fine except I cannot figure out how to use the wireless network established in my home.
On the Mac side, I can connect to the internet with the Airport fine, never have a problem on that side. When switched to the Windows side I have no wireless options. Though I can use the internet when using an ethernet cable connected directly to my router (Linksys WRT110). I have read soo many forum posts and nothing I have read has helped so far. When I go to Network Connections and Properties, I do not have a Wireless Network Connection tab.
I've just installed XP on my Macbook Pro (No BootCamp, just Windows XP), and I'm currently trying to figure out how to set up my network connection. I'm assuming that I will need to install drivers?

Our internet has been running slower the past month or so and I want to be sure I have not left my internet unsecured for someone else to log on and use. When I check the "rainbow" at the top of my screen there are usually about 6 people listed and they all have a lock after their names. Our just has our last name with a checkmark. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently staying in university residence where our internet access is all through wireless access point through the building; in this environment, is it possible to setup a time capsule such that it connects wirelessly to the nearest access point and then allows me to connect to it (the TC) wirelessly or by ethernet (then get an address by DHCP in the TC or the access point)? I was hoping to use the TC as a backup for my imac and macbook, as well as a mounting point for drives I plug into it but thus far haven't been able to come up with anything that works ideally (i.e. tried connecting all my stuff to the access point but the backup worked way too slow over 802.11g to do anything realistically when its shared among many other people).

I have installed numerous printers, software, hardware etc on other comps as well as this one and have never had a problem... until now. I connected my printer to the internet access port (my home network) and everything went fine. But when I put in the canon disk to load the software and add the printer to my comp, I click on setup, it prompts me for my user pw to allow install. I do that and when I hit ok, nothing happens...
No other window loads or anything. It's like there is nothing on it after the pw prompt. I tried it on a diff comp (windows based PC) and it worked fine... why wont it load on my iMac? Very confused. Also, I turned off my firewall thinking that would help, but it did not... any help is appreciated.
I recently installed XP with bootcamp on my MacBook Pro. The big problem I'm having is that the internal speakers on my computer don't have sound coming out of them. (When I'm on windows) The volume control on my keyboard doesn't do anything, either. When I go to find my sound control, to make sure it's not muted or anything, I find that I can't even edit the sound controls. It says I don't have a device that can output sound, even though my internal speakers work fine on my mac desktop. It can't seem to find my internal speakers, when I try setting up a new device. I'm having a lot of trouble setting up internet on the XP as well, I just don't understand how to do it. (I've used mac all my life, I am really new to windows.) Basically, I have a wireless internet connection, I've got the router downstairs, and the information is handy. But I just don't know how to set it up, and I don't know what type of internet connection I want.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to use my Mac Mini with Lion Server as a router for my network with no success. I have tried the wizard and it finishes and nothing works.
I have a Cable Modem connected to the Mac Mini via the USB connector and the server surfs fine. The DHCP server is now correctly working I think and the clients are getting the correct IP addresses now.

What I need to do is an extension of Parental Controls. The main difference is I want to do WEEKLY time allocation/restrictions, not daily. I want to give the kids (for exmaple) 10 hours a week for internet access. I will set blocks of time up that will bar access from 11PM until 7 AM but within the open time, they will have 10 hours. Once that 10 hours is used, they are locked out. There are several tools that seem to do variations of this, mainly limit the # of hours per day.... this will not work. I have looked at Content Barrier, NetNanny Safe, Eyes, and a few others... There are a couple on the Windows side but they do not have a Mac version.
