PowerPC :: G4 2nd Time Screen Replaced

Sep 27, 2007

The problem I am having is that lines will appear on my screen at random times (vertical and horizontal), or when I tilt the screen. I had it replaced at the Ginza store after my screen died, then I had it replaced a few weeks ago at the 5th Ave store and it's doing it again, but this time more colors of lines show but vertically and horizontally. In the last replacement the gave me a new screen and a logic board. It was good for about 4 days. Am I doing something wrong? I have read on the forum about people having small lines show, but my whole screen changes. My computer sits on my desk in my room, it never leaves. It's also a last gen 17 inch PowerBook.

Mac Pro :: Replaced Int Battery - Still Get Date - Time ErrorMsg?

Sep 3, 2007

Recently started getting the Date & Time Error message when bootup completed to desktop each morning when starting up ol' PMG4. PMG4 is gigabit ethernet model with GigaDesign 1.3MHz CPU upgrade and running OSX 10.4.10. After a few days of this, I realized that internal battery must be going bad (although replaced it 2 years ago...). Had local Mac shop replace battery and for about a week all was good... Then message came back again! And then a few days later one of my internal hard drives went bad and crashed and icon disappeared from desktop....coincidence or ???

Anyway, took my PMG4 back to shop and they put in another battery for me....thinking that maybe battery wasn't so good that was put in. Guess what, still getting that error message every morning at bootup that Mac's date and time is set before 2001, etc. Any ideas as to what's causing this??? wasn't doing this until just recently.

OS X :: Whats In The Logic Board And Replaced For A 2nd Time?

Apr 25, 2009

my MBP has been acting up, i just had the logic board and the lcd display replaced for a 2nd time due to a scrambled and soon after " black screen" syndrome now after i just picked up my MBP from repair, yesterday my airport and ethernet are not really working. it works for a while and then network says that i have a self assigned ip address, the router slot is blank, i have the wrong ip add. starting with 162 so its (closed) the only solution is to physically unplug the router and then plug back in i spent almost 3 hr yesterday with my ISP trying to troubleshoot, for i thought it was my net gear modem/ router that was at fault but that was not the case its my mac so i would like to know exactly what components are included in my MBP 3.1 santa rosa logic board is the air port and ethernet controller located in the logic board ?
how about the nvidia video card is it also locted in the logic board ?

if it is can Apple just replace the defect part or do they have to replace the entire logic board again ?

this is my sys spec:

MacBook Air :: Screen With Lines Can Be Replaced By Genius Bar?

Mar 3, 2009

After bringing them both into the genius bar and setting them side by side, the genius agreed that there were faint lines visible on light backgrounds, and is having it sent off to have the whole top housing replaced. Here's to hoping that it works out..UPDATE: so despite the fact that I have some authorization from the genius bar to have my clamshell assembly replaced, I just checked the status of my order and it says "no issues detected." I'm assuming that apple is within their right to do this, but the paperwork clearly states that the lines are visible in store to multiple geniuses.

MacBook :: Screen Chipped And Scratched - Wants To Replaced

Jul 20, 2009

I am selling my MacBook as I upgraded to a MBP. I was cleaning the screen to pretty it up and realized that the screen was chipped or scratched. I am not sure what to do. It is going to be anywhere from $99-$200 to fix it. Do you think it is worth it? Below are the general specs of the MB:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo
Model or Type: MacBook w/ APPLECARE!!
Hardware Overview:

Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

Boot ROM Version: MB41.00C1.B00
SMC Version: 1.31f0

Intel Mac :: Fan Sounds Like A Hairdryer After Screen Has Been Replaced?

Mar 30, 2012

Can someone who's 'up' on imacs give me a steer here.At the beginning of the week, with only a 14 days to go on my 3 year Applecare warranty, I noticed a grey streaky 'misting' on the screen when it was turned off. It was really quite bad.  Called Applecare, who got their servicing company to collect it, screen replaced with no problems.  Got it back today, new screen, looks great.

So far so good.  Except that the fan is now whirling around and making an incredible noise after about 10 minutes of the machine being turned on.  I'd say it's around 5 times as loud (or hyperactive) as it was before I sent it off for a new screen.  One of the things I turned to the imac for was it's quietness, so this is worse for me than a misty screen, to be honest.  Sounds like a hairdryer.

Put it this way:  I often listen to music late at night, very low, but now the fan would drown out the sound of the music.  Called Applecare, who are going to get it collected again, but from what I've read in these forums this evening (& I'm no expert) it could be a software related problem (temperature controls and all that...)  I'm not sure that the guy I was talking to at Applecare today quite understood what I was trying to explain, and said it was definitely a hardware problem. I want to call Applecare back on Monday before the mac's collected again to just make sure it has to be carted off again, with a bit of back up info from anybody who might help here.

Hardware :: Replaced My AEBS With A Time Machine - Internet Is Now Slow?

Mar 22, 2008

not sure what the problem is here. I replaced my AEBS with a 500gb time machine, and my internet is SLOW. Not just during backups, but... all the time! I've searched around online and others seem to be having some issues similar to mine. What about you all? has anyone replaced an AEBS with a Time Machine and found network performance to be slow?? And i should re-state. Network throughput is fine. Transferring files between computers is no big deal, but the actual internet surfing is VERY slow.

Hardware :: Time Capsule Replaced - Can't Backup / How To Ignore Old Backups On Mbp

Apr 2, 2010

How do I get my MBP to ignore the old backups and do a new backup from scratch on the refurb device, which I configured with the same name and etc?

OS X :: Logic Board Replaced - Time Machine Doesn't Recognize Old Backup?

Dec 31, 2008

Had to have the logic board in my Mac Pro replaced due to faulty audio input jack.

Time machine backs up to an external drive (DROBO array).

When I brought the machine back home, time machine does not recognize the old backup (last backup never) and doesn't have room to backup a new system because the old TM files take up most of the drivespace.

Is there a way to "force" time machine to accept an old TM backup file? I don't want to delete everything and start again. I assume this is because the logic board (motherboard) was replaced.

Note that the system drive and all internal hard drives were not modified, and the OS was not reinstalled or anything like that.

One other item: the tech forgot to run some software at apple and my machine currently has no serial number (about this mac...) assigned. They are sending out a tech to fix this - does time machine back up based on serial number?

Hardware :: 27" IMac - Replaced Time Capsule Hard Drive

May 20, 2010

I have a 500GB time capsule that quickly ran out of space with my 27" iMac 1TB drive. I wanted to buy a Guardian MAXimus 1.5TB Raid-1 Hard Drive for $360 to do my backups. The cost was high and I decided to look into replacing the Time Capsule drive. I bought a 2TB Western Digital Green internal drive for $130 and replaced it using the Hardmac instructions. The 2TB Green drive runs near silent and is a lot cooler than the original 500GB drive. The swap was easy to do, but I destroyed the rubber mat glued on the bottom. I bought a Rosewill enclosure for $23 for the 500GB drive. I considered buying a FW800 enclosure, but that was $60 and it didn't seem worth it for a back up drive.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Logic Board Replaced - Want To Inherit Time Machine Backup?

Jun 20, 2012

I had to have my logic board replaced. Now when I plug in my Time Machine external drive, I'm asked if I want to inherit the backup, which it says is from a different computer. Well....it's not. It's from this computer. So I'm not sure why it's asking this, but there are so many complaints about "inheriting" that I don't know if I want to or not. Should I just erase the back up or should I go ahead and say "Yes" to inheriting the backup?

MacBook :: Liquid Spill - Screen Replaced And Whole Computer Diagnosed

Spilled a vanilla latte all over it about 3 weeks ago. Screen immediately screwed up (lighting issues, pixels....the whole works). Apple wanted $800 flat to "begin" to fix it. If the logic board had one drop of liquid on it, it'd jump to $1240. Sent it to MacService.com, and got the screen replaced and the whole computer diagnosed - with shipping included - for $325. PowerPC :: Load Up The Blue Screen With The Apple Logo, But Then The Screen Goes Black Or Flickers?

Feb 4, 2008

I am looking at purchasing an Ibook G4 but the description of the item includes this:"When you switch it on it begins to load up i.e. the blue screen with the Apple logo, but then the screen goes black or flickers. Said friend has kindly wiped the hard drive for me so now when you switch it on it makes the opening noise then you get a blue screen with alternating ? and the Finder logo."

I have a feeling this may have been a temporary fault with the screen connector being loose and possibly damaged. But i assume the alternating "?" and the "finder logo" is simply a lack of OS?

PowerPC :: EMac Screen Developing Green Tint In The Bottom Right Corner Of Its Screen?

Oct 6, 2008

Our eMac seems to be developing a green tint in the bottom right hand corner of its screen. I've done some quick searching online and it seems that a few people have suggested a cold boot so it runs the degaussing process on a startup.

I left the eMac off for about an hour, unplugged. It did the degauss once it was plugged back in and "seems" to have removed nearly all of the green tint.

There are a few threads on various forums when I search on Google about this issue but they have no conclusive reasons why this is happening.

Could my eMac be developing a fault at all? I'm not too sure if anything magnetic has been placed on our table near the eMac so this may be the reason.

PowerPC :: IBook Screen Not Working At Startup / Screen Remains Black

My iBook will not display anything on its screen. Rather, it just remains black. One time, the screen did come on, but then shortly after booting, it flickered a lot and then went black again. A year ago, something similiar happened and when I took it to be serviced (when I had AppleCare), they had to send it away and have a new logic board installed. Now this machine is out of warrenty and and I am not sure what to do, or even if it is the same problem. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

PowerPC :: Screen Resolution And Color Calibration / Grey Flickering Screen On Internal Monitor

Dec 5, 2007

Thing is I got hold of a 1ghz 17" iMac almost for free, it had a dead logicboard (I checked it with a voltage-meter), but I figured I could fix it and have a small hobby project-thingie going on. Well I just got a new logic board today, for a 1ghz 17" iMac g4.

Things is I only get a bright grey screen from my Mac when I boot. I've tried connecting it to a external display and that works fine. Everything is there.

I then reinstalled Tiger on it, with the computer connected to my external screen. And I still have the same problem. (I have now disconnected the ext. screen and is controlling the iMac from my MBP). So at least it isn't the installation.

So what is the problem? I can via an Apple Keyboard control the brightness on the blank screen, which would indicate that it does react to input of some degree.

I've read that if the inverter is dead or anything else is dead, you would get a rolling grey screen, flicker or something like that and not a steady bright grey. One thing I'm thinking is. What if somehow this logic board was for a 15" 1ghz imac g4? Can I check this?

I read that long thread about guys buying hi-res displays for their MBPs, and they had to replace some display profile? Could I maybe fix it with a different display profile-file?

I'm really confused by all this, and would appreciate any help I can get.

Model: PowerMac6,1
CPU-Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)

and

the gfx chip is a GeforceMX4 with 32mb.

The display is a mode 9c27, manufacturer 610, serialnumber 00000, manufacture date: B84D7200.

I use my MBP 15 i7 4gb ram HD AG in class/school majority of the time. In class I use my MBP at about 1/2 brightness (compared to full) in this fixed setting I have had the brightness flicker between bright to slightly dull and back. PowerPC :: Screen Not Working Fine At Startup / Screen Stays Black On Startup

My brother's iBook G4 (I think it's a 2003 model) has a problem with the screen. When the computer is turned on, the screen stays black, although the backlight is on (the apple glows). Sometimes, on start up, the screen works normally for a random amount of time before going fuzzy and then black again.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Is it likely to be a problem with the hardware in the actual computer, or just the screen? Or is it a software thing?

They told me that I had a virus?  They then gave me the apps that had been missing and upgraded me again to 10.7.3 however it is still freezing regardless of whether I am on the internet so its not my connection. I also went to open itunes and it told me it could not find a folder and to choose a location.  When I chose Music - itunes - it states I can't and to choose another folder.
