Nov 22, 2008what is the connection for the airport extreme? is it pci? also i know i plugged an antenna in the airport card. is the antenna free on the other end?

Feb 23, 2010I just got a time capsule and replaced my extreme with it then added my 2 expresses to the network. Was getting 28-33mbps download speeds using speedtest.net to test now i'm getting only 4-6mbps. WTH!!! Also the transfer rate for backing up my macbook to the tc drive is ridiculous!!!

Dec 6, 2010I cant get on my network as it keeps saying password failed etc. 3 iphones and 2 ATV's and the ipad are connecting with no problems at all.
I was able to link to my neighbors wifi that has no password though And. it's a 1 month old MacBook Pro 13" and a pre 09' White Macbook
AND the iMac in the bedroom is working on my wifi fine as well.

Jul 27, 2005I updated my PSP which now has a web browser. But I cant connect to my Aiport! I have a Password for the base station and I'm not disabling it. When I set up my PSP network it sees my airport signal and then asks for the WEP key. It's 10 digits and I tried entering the letters in in caps and lowercase. When I finish the setup and test the connection it says connection error.

Nov 26, 2009I just got an airport extreme card and installed it in my Power Mac G5 which is running leopard.
Im trying to connect to my Linksys router downstairs which is password protected. The airport sees the wireless network but when I try and connect and insert the password i get a 'connection timeout' message.
I tried to use the assistant also but when it come to inserting the password its says the password is incorrect even though it definitly is correct..
Im relatively new to Mac so please excuse the lack of knowledge.

There is now a requirement for wireless connection to the internet
I have acquired an Airport Extreme Wireless Base Station
This has a single WAN port for modem connection
Can the above modem be successfully be connected by some means

Dec 26, 2010my airport extreme connection to internet keeps failing. It is occurring about every 3-4 days, where I get amber light. By unplugging it resets again. Is there something I can do, or do I need to by a new system. It is about 2 years old.

Mar 16, 2009I have just recently started having this problem. It seems when the computer sits idle, the connection drops. I don't see my network in the dropdown menu. I open airport utility, and the extreme base station does not show up. I find I have to unplug it, or do an actual reset on it to get it to show up.
I try resetting the cable modem as well, but I have never had issue with the internet connection itself here before. I try restarting the computer. When it does come back online/show up in AIrport Utility, it seems kind of random because it will take a few attempts at all 3 methods mentioned before it just suddenly appears in Airport Utility. So I really have no idea what is helping. The process is a pain in the butt though.
I have searched around, but I can't find many current articles on the problem.
The only other info I can offer is that I never had any problems until I installed the last Airport Utility update. I am running 10.5.6. The problem doesn't seem to happen while I am working, and online frequently.
I don't even know where to start trouble shooting.

Apr 10, 2004I'm using WPA encryption on my Airport Extreme via a Linksys WRT54G. Everything works great, except when my Powerbook wakes up from sleeping, the connection is lost, and doesn't reconnect. To re-establish the connection, I have to select "Turn Airport Off" and then "Turn Airport On" from the Airport extra, then select my network from the menu. It doesn't seem to be a question of forgetting the key, because it doesn't ask me for the key again when I do this.
So, (a) has anyone seen this behavior and (b) is there any known fix? I saw a couple other posts in a Google search referring to this behavior, but they were older posts, and didn't have any answers.
This is on OS X 10.3.3 BTW with all the most recent updates.
Hardware :: Airport Extreme Dropping Internet Connection?
Nov 1, 2009I have a 3 month old Airport Extreme Base Station(dual band) running a secured 2.4 and 5GHz network.
It is dropping it's wireless internet(not signal, just internet) on my 13" Unibody MBP at least 2 or 3 times per day. Not at a certain time, or under certain circumstances, and I can't replicate it. My computer will continue to see the networks(named airFORBUSH and airFORBUSH(5GHz)), but there will be no internet, and it won't stay connected to them. If I connect to the network named "FORBUSH", which is our Linksys network, it connects and is up and running again, so I know it's not our ISP.
Here's my setup in my house(I'm the only one having this issue, since I'm the only one running wireless on the AEBS

Feb 26, 2010I just got a 2010 Airport Extreme to replace my February 2009 model. The 2010 model does not seem to work with my cable modem. It is not faulty because I have already tried two different ones. My MacBook will recognize and I will get a green light, but no internet connection. When I connect my 2009 model Airport Extreme I do get internet connection.

The HD does not support a USB connection and I already have another HD connected to the Airport Extreme via the USB port. I am also working off of a PC laptop.

About once every day or every other day, the internet connection drops, but the router is still functioning fine (can connect to the router) and is visible via airport utility. We can't connect to the internet, whether via a wired or wireless connection. In order to get the internet back up, I need to so a restart on the airport utility. This seems odd, but this is the second airport extreme in a row that we've bought that has this problem (the other one lasted two months).

May 18, 2008I have a set top box that has a router attached to it (Siemans Gigaset SE587), this in then attached to my Airport Extreme.
After some minutes i lose connection. I have tried changing Channels which allows me go back on line again, but i think its more a case of it working after every time i restart my Airport. and have even reset the Airport Extreme to create a new network.
The loss of connection has nothing to do with my isp because I am currently directly linked into my mac using the ethernet into my mac . And no connection drop.
Does anyone have a clue what this might be. I am sure my Airport is in good working order, I say that because it was working fine before my isp change.
And when it is able to stay up its working very well.

Sep 16, 2010I know i might recieve some criticism from people but whatever.. it'l help some people out.I got ripped off on craigslist buying a powermac g5 from some punk (literally... he lived in a warehouse with skate ramps and grafitti "art" )Got this powermac, shady south side chicago kid, wont return for an antennaIve tried everything to use the airport extreme without an antenna, never get any signal without the side off. Today i was using a safety pin (a large safety pin for a hoodie or jeans)unclipped it and jammed it in the Dr. bott slot/hole ....wherever the port is on the back of your g5 that your antenna should go.Somehow i realized that it took less than 5 minutes to load a facebook page, i then scanned for networks and damn, i saw my neighbors networks.

Jan 13, 2007I currently own a G4 PowerBook running OS X 10.2.8 (archaic, I know) which I use as a word processor. I want to set it up to recieve my friend's 802.11 wireless signal (with his permission), which is sent out by a base station tied to a Windows machine. Two questions I have:
First, will an Apple PowerBook and Airport card be able to receive a signal from a Windows machine (I don't see why not, but...)?
Secondly, I seem to only be able to find the AirPort Extreme card on the Apple Store. Will the Extreme card plug and play with my notebook, or not? Are there any good third-party cards that I can buy that will work well if not?

Jul 4, 2007I just purcahsed an AppleTv and the Seagate FreeAgent 500GB External HD. I wanted to know if I could transfer my iTunes library to my external drive over Airport Extreme if the Seagate is attached via USB Hub?
I was also wondering if I did this would my library will be recognized by my Powerbook and AppleTV. Also when I sync iPods, iPhones and the like to my powerbook will they sync from the Seagate attached to the extreme?
I also plan on adding an iMac in October. Will it also be able to access the library from the Airport Extrene base station?

Jul 24, 2007I was looking at getting a new Airport Extreme base but I'm not sure if it will work with my 15" G4 Powerbook at all? I currently have a Linksys WRT54G which is OK but is such a pain to set up when it does happen to crash once in a while too. Besides, I don't think I'm getting the most powerful signal I can get too. Besides saying that the new wireless "N" has 5 times more speed than the wireless "G", is it worth it to switch over from a linksys to the Airport Extreme?

I followed the instructions here: [URL] to a T, and no luck. System Profiler doesn't recognize the card. So, I decided to take the card out and put it back in while the computer was on. The computer came up with the black screen that says I need to restart the computer; however, upon restart it still doesn't recognize the card.

my router is a Thomson TG585 V7
i never had this problem with old airport, it only seems to be with extreme although the card was connecting to the network from my g5 was basically inches away from it, the Emac is on the floor about 2ft away i goto connect and it just keeps timing out, i've made sure the wpa key is correct and even tried manually entering the network config details.
