Hardware :: Using Airport Extreme Without Internet Connection?

May 24, 2009

Is it possible to use Airport Extreme without a modem or internet connection? I used to have internet in my house but no longer need it. I would still like to be able to wirelessly access my printer and external hard drive. Any ideas?

Hardware :: Internet Connection Keeps Dropping - Using Airport Extreme?

Mar 16, 2009

I have just recently started having this problem. It seems when the computer sits idle, the connection drops. I don't see my network in the dropdown menu. I open airport utility, and the extreme base station does not show up. I find I have to unplug it, or do an actual reset on it to get it to show up.

I try resetting the cable modem as well, but I have never had issue with the internet connection itself here before. I try restarting the computer. When it does come back online/show up in AIrport Utility, it seems kind of random because it will take a few attempts at all 3 methods mentioned before it just suddenly appears in Airport Utility. So I really have no idea what is helping. The process is a pain in the butt though.

I have searched around, but I can't find many current articles on the problem.

The only other info I can offer is that I never had any problems until I installed the last Airport Utility update. I am running 10.5.6. The problem doesn't seem to happen while I am working, and online frequently.

I don't even know where to start trouble shooting.

Hardware :: Airport Extreme Dropping Internet Connection?

Nov 1, 2009

I have a 3 month old Airport Extreme Base Station(dual band) running a secured 2.4 and 5GHz network.

It is dropping it's wireless internet(not signal, just internet) on my 13" Unibody MBP at least 2 or 3 times per day. Not at a certain time, or under certain circumstances, and I can't replicate it. My computer will continue to see the networks(named airFORBUSH and airFORBUSH(5GHz)), but there will be no internet, and it won't stay connected to them. If I connect to the network named "FORBUSH", which is our Linksys network, it connects and is up and running again, so I know it's not our ISP.

Here's my setup in my house(I'm the only one having this issue, since I'm the only one running wireless on the AEBS

Hardware :: AirPort Extreme - Internet Connection Drops In Routine

Mar 22, 2010

We're running an airport extreme as our router. About once every day or every other day, the internet connection drops, but the router is still functioning fine (can connect to the router) and is visible via airport utility. We can't connect to the internet, whether via a wired or wireless connection. In order to get the internet back up, I need to so a restart on the airport utility. This seems odd, but this is the second airport extreme in a row that we've bought that has this problem (the other one lasted two months).

Intel Mac :: OS 10.7.4 Has Suddenly Stopped Printing To Epson CX4800 Printer Through Airport Extreme?

Jul 2, 2012

May iMac (OS 10.7.4) has suddenly stopped printing to my Epson CX4800 printer through Airport Extreme, though my MacBook (OS 10.5.8) continues to function just fine). The iMac will print if it is connected to the printer directly via USB. The iMac continues to connect to the Internet wirelessly. I've tried resetting the printer and ensuring the driver is up to date, but no joy.

Intel Mac :: Stopped Recognizing Internet Connection (Ethernet) After Announcing An IP Address

Feb 22, 2012

I had no trouble getting on line until last week when a message came on that

IP address

was in use by

DHCP Server

Since that time, no matter if I plug it into one router or the other  (I use a router in my office to share the one ethernet cable that comes down the hall) it claims that the ethernet is working and it knows that it is connected to the Internet, but it cannot access the Internet. IT seems to be stuck in a cycle of navel-gazing, constantly focused on its own ethernet IP address.

All I know how to do is operate the thing; we have no IT person here. A visitor set up our network for us a few years ago. Only the iMac has this problem; my PC laptops go online just fine. But all my work is on the iMac.

Intel Mac :: Dropping Internet Connection Via Airport

Mar 19, 2012

Since last week my iMac (Early 2009, OS 10.7.3) has been dropping its connection to the Internet. I'm using a router connected to an Airport Extreme and connect to it via WiFi. I tried connecting via Ethernet cable from modem to iMac but it would drop the connection entirely, which is why I had been connecting via WiFi. I have no problem with my other devices (iPad, iPhone and MacBook, this one with 10.7.2 installed), they connect immediately to the Internet and all, even the iMac, are able to connect to each other.

I already tried restaring the Airport Extreme, zapped the PRAM, reset the SMC, repaired permissions, disconnected the router and Airport from the power source and it still won't connect. Last time this happened, my iMac went to sleep and dropped the Internet connection after waking. I put it back to sleep and woke it using the power button as someone had suggested in another post, that helped and the connection was reestablished. This morning the iMac it was working fine, did not go to sleep at any time and suddenly dropped the connection, which I haven't been able to restore since.

Applications :: Airport Extreme - WPA Connection Disconnects After Sleep?

Apr 10, 2004

I'm using WPA encryption on my Airport Extreme via a Linksys WRT54G. Everything works great, except when my Powerbook wakes up from sleeping, the connection is lost, and doesn't reconnect. To re-establish the connection, I have to select "Turn Airport Off" and then "Turn Airport On" from the Airport extra, then select my network from the menu. It doesn't seem to be a question of forgetting the key, because it doesn't ask me for the key again when I do this.

So, (a) has anyone seen this behavior and (b) is there any known fix? I saw a couple other posts in a Google search referring to this behavior, but they were older posts, and didn't have any answers.

This is on OS X 10.3.3 BTW with all the most recent updates.

PowerPC :: Airport Card Connection Suddenly Stopped Working

Oct 12, 2007

Last week, my airport connection suddenly stopped working (and I mean JUST as I was working on it, it started failing). It would connect to the network fine, but it could not communicate with the router through DHCP and even with a static IP, it could not transfer any network data. I put in my brother's working airport card, and it worked, so I ordered a refurbished airport card from I put that in today, and it is showing the same symptoms of my old card. I don't have my brother's PowerBook to test his card again, so I don't know what to do.

Hardware :: Airport Extreme Seems To Drop Connection When Using With Siemans Gigaset SE587

May 18, 2008

I have a set top box that has a router attached to it (Siemans Gigaset SE587), this in then attached to my Airport Extreme.

After some minutes i lose connection. I have tried changing Channels which allows me go back on line again, but i think its more a case of it working after every time i restart my Airport. and have even reset the Airport Extreme to create a new network.

The loss of connection has nothing to do with my isp because I am currently directly linked into my mac using the ethernet into my mac . And no connection drop.

Does anyone have a clue what this might be. I am sure my Airport is in good working order, I say that because it was working fine before my isp change.

And when it is able to stay up its working very well.

Hardware :: Airport Extreme Access Over Internet

Jul 13, 2007

I hope the mac folks can lend a guy a hand. I have the latest AE and it runs great with a shared HD between Vista PC and my Macs. My ISP is dynamic so I'm using Since I don't really want to leave a computer on 24-7 (for the dyndns updates) I have a linksys router take the feed from the cable modem. AE is in bridged mode. All disks and wireless is flawless. I can access my webcams via the static ip from dyndns, route it to linksys then to camera. But I can't figure out how or what to do to get access to my shared drivers over the net. I researched for a couple hours today and came up with a few people who did it (maybe they didn't have a leading router like me) but they didn't leave enough clues, details or links to research it some more. Apple online support is slim and I'm clueless on Bonjour configs.
