Applications :: Airport Extreme - WPA Connection Disconnects After Sleep?
Apr 10, 2004
I'm using WPA encryption on my Airport Extreme via a Linksys WRT54G. Everything works great, except when my Powerbook wakes up from sleeping, the connection is lost, and doesn't reconnect. To re-establish the connection, I have to select "Turn Airport Off" and then "Turn Airport On" from the Airport extra, then select my network from the menu. It doesn't seem to be a question of forgetting the key, because it doesn't ask me for the key again when I do this.
So, (a) has anyone seen this behavior and (b) is there any known fix? I saw a couple other posts in a Google search referring to this behavior, but they were older posts, and didn't have any answers.
This is on OS X 10.3.3 BTW with all the most recent updates.
I have a Airport Extreme connected to two Imacs with eithernet While playing we get suddenly disconnets we have great game preforcmane low latency and no lagg but suddenly we disconnect both disconnects just a couple seconds apart
I just got a time capsule and replaced my extreme with it then added my 2 expresses to the network. Was getting 28-33mbps download speeds using speedtest.net to test now i'm getting only 4-6mbps. WTH!!! Also the transfer rate for backing up my macbook to the tc drive is ridiculous!!!
I leave my Air on pretty much all the time, and put it to sleep while moving around etc. Sleeping it disconnect the Airport connection - which if very annoying. At a desk I've just been dimming the display all the way off in order to keep my connection.
However, I recently noticed that by setting a "sleep display" hot corner, my network connection is maintained.
I have 2 questions: 1) Is sleep display equivalent (functionally) to simply dimming the display all the way down? 2) Is there a way to either set up a shortcut to sleep the display (other than a hot corner) and/or set it so that only the DISPLAY sleeps after 'x' minutes?
I updated my PSP which now has a web browser. But I cant connect to my Aiport! I have a Password for the base station and I'm not disabling it. When I set up my PSP network it sees my airport signal and then asks for the WEP key. It's 10 digits and I tried entering the letters in in caps and lowercase. When I finish the setup and test the connection it says connection error.
Is it possible to use Airport Extreme without a modem or internet connection? I used to have internet in my house but no longer need it. I would still like to be able to wirelessly access my printer and external hard drive. Any ideas?
I just got an airport extreme card and installed it in my Power Mac G5 which is running leopard.
Im trying to connect to my Linksys router downstairs which is password protected. The airport sees the wireless network but when I try and connect and insert the password i get a 'connection timeout' message.
I tried to use the assistant also but when it come to inserting the password its says the password is incorrect even though it definitly is correct..
Im relatively new to Mac so please excuse the lack of knowledge.
I am at a loss with this one. I have a Mid-2011 Mac Mini running OS X 10.7.4 Server (11E53) connected via gigabit ethernet to an Airport Extreme. This computer will not sleep on its own using the system sleep timer.
If anyone has any ideas that may help, I'm all ears! The Mac Mini should sleep as intended and the Airport Extreme router should wake it if network resources are requested via a Magic Packet. This same Airport Extreme does wake the other computers on the network just fine when they are configured to Wake on Lan (womp 1 in the pmset -g output, below).
my airport extreme connection to internet keeps failing. It is occurring about every 3-4 days, where I get amber light. By unplugging it resets again. Is there something I can do, or do I need to by a new system. It is about 2 years old.
I have just recently started having this problem. It seems when the computer sits idle, the connection drops. I don't see my network in the dropdown menu. I open airport utility, and the extreme base station does not show up. I find I have to unplug it, or do an actual reset on it to get it to show up.
I try resetting the cable modem as well, but I have never had issue with the internet connection itself here before. I try restarting the computer. When it does come back online/show up in AIrport Utility, it seems kind of random because it will take a few attempts at all 3 methods mentioned before it just suddenly appears in Airport Utility. So I really have no idea what is helping. The process is a pain in the butt though.
I have searched around, but I can't find many current articles on the problem.
The only other info I can offer is that I never had any problems until I installed the last Airport Utility update. I am running 10.5.6. The problem doesn't seem to happen while I am working, and online frequently.
I don't even know where to start trouble shooting.
I have a 3 month old Airport Extreme Base Station(dual band) running a secured 2.4 and 5GHz network.
It is dropping it's wireless internet(not signal, just internet) on my 13" Unibody MBP at least 2 or 3 times per day. Not at a certain time, or under certain circumstances, and I can't replicate it. My computer will continue to see the networks(named airFORBUSH and airFORBUSH(5GHz)), but there will be no internet, and it won't stay connected to them. If I connect to the network named "FORBUSH", which is our Linksys network, it connects and is up and running again, so I know it's not our ISP.
Here's my setup in my house(I'm the only one having this issue, since I'm the only one running wireless on the AEBS
I just got a 2010 Airport Extreme to replace my February 2009 model. The 2010 model does not seem to work with my cable modem. It is not faulty because I have already tried two different ones. My MacBook will recognize and I will get a green light, but no internet connection. When I connect my 2009 model Airport Extreme I do get internet connection.
Iimac uses airport extreme. For no known reason stopped connection to Internet. Reset. Still no connection with saying cannot connect because it timed out. When I connect extreme directly to the iMac I can get Internet. If I disconnect Internet does not work
I was reading about how constant exposure to cell phone and Wifi rays are not to healthy for human beings. The article suggested turning off Wifi when not in use so your home isn't pumping it 24/7 even while you are asleep. But obviously that would be a pain unless there was a router that could simply wake up from sleep whenever some tries to access, just like a desktop computer.
Anyway, I think that would be a slick invention if there isn't one already
Yeah the government regulates so called "safe levels" but, c'mon, these guys can't get anything right, and I don't want to end up with freakin brain tumors and cancer when smarter steps could be taken now.
Can anyone provide clear instructions on connecting a 2Tb Lacie hard drive to the Airport Extreme via one of the ethernet ports? The HD does not support a USB connection and I already have another HD connected to the Airport Extreme via the USB port. I am also working off of a PC laptop.
We're running an airport extreme as our router. About once every day or every other day, the internet connection drops, but the router is still functioning fine (can connect to the router) and is visible via airport utility. We can't connect to the internet, whether via a wired or wireless connection. In order to get the internet back up, I need to so a restart on the airport utility. This seems odd, but this is the second airport extreme in a row that we've bought that has this problem (the other one lasted two months).
I am having since few weeks problem with my iMac loosing connection with my wifi airport extreme, my MacBook pro, iPhone and iPad is staying looked perfect with my wifi..I Mac is loosing connection, no indication anymore on my top window on my desktop. I need to go to system preferenties, open network and selecting again my wifi network..All fine for certain period of time ( 15 minutes) and i need to do THE Same thing..As all THE rest is werking fine, is this setting Or hardware problem in my iMac
I have a set top box that has a router attached to it (Siemans Gigaset SE587), this in then attached to my Airport Extreme.
After some minutes i lose connection. I have tried changing Channels which allows me go back on line again, but i think its more a case of it working after every time i restart my Airport. and have even reset the Airport Extreme to create a new network.
The loss of connection has nothing to do with my isp because I am currently directly linked into my mac using the ethernet into my mac . And no connection drop.
Does anyone have a clue what this might be. I am sure my Airport is in good working order, I say that because it was working fine before my isp change.
And when it is able to stay up its working very well.
When my air returns from sleep I go from full airport connection to 2 bars and websites load so slowly, prior to sleep everything is fine and so is resetting the air and everything returns to normal.
Every time my macbook is in sleep mode the internet disconnects (msn messenger shuts down, download stops etc.). I am not talking about closing the lid sleep mode because I am in desktop mode with an external display. Once I woke up my macbook it reconnects. Does anyone know how to stop this because I think it happened after 10.5.6.
I recently purchased the $1699 Macbook Pro a couple of weeks back and now it seems that my airport randomly turns off. I can't even get it to turn back on; I have to restart my macbook to get it working again.
I've recently moved into student accommodation, which only has wired internet access in the rooms. This is fine for my MacBook, but causes problems for the iPad! So I've been attempting to share the MacBook's internet connection through AirPort using the "Internet Sharing" option in System Prefs->Sharing. This works great, but after a while it disconnects for no apparent reason.
I recently bought a late 08 aluminum macbook and have been quite happy with it but from quite some time I've noticed that while I'm on internet and on adium (where I noticed the most) the signal goes off for a couple of seconds and then it comes back. First i thought it was ok but it's been happening really often and is quite annoying since it happens several times a day and only happens to me and not anyone on my network (everyone else has pc`s and are also on wifi). So I wanted to ask.. is it possible my Airport card is failing? or is my router the one failing.
My Macbook 2009 continously disconnects itself from the airport and wifi. After it disconnects it takes about an hour to get it to work again. It is not my router because my iphone is still connected to wifi when this happens This also only happens at my home router.
My laptop drops the wi-fi connection every time the cover closes for sleep mode. It just started doing that recently. What settings should I do to make it stay connected? My other Apple devices continue to work normally.
Info: MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)
