PowerPC :: Using EMac USB 2.0 Airport Extreme Card
Jul 3, 2008
My university was tossing an eMac so I decided to take it. I put Leopard on it (10.5) and purchased an Airport Extreme PCI Card (A1026). I followed the instructions here: [URL] to a T, and no luck. System Profiler doesn't recognize the card. So, I decided to take the card out and put it back in while the computer was on. The computer came up with the black screen that says I need to restart the computer; however, upon restart it still doesn't recognize the card.
I bought an eMac off Craigslist. I really really love it. Its the 1GHz model, it does everything I want it to.
I needed it to have wireless for when I bring it home over the summer (Im at school now and we have ethernet cables) so I bought an airport extreme off ebay for about $20.
I followed the instructions (Held the door down, turned it off, installed it and plugged the antenna in) and turned it back on. No Airport symbol appeared at the top.
I searched a little bit, its running 10.3.9 and so i found it requires a driver (it didnt come with a CD).
I installed the Driver, restarted it and still nothing. I even made sure it was installed properly, and as far as I can tell everything is hooked in ok.
The guy who sold it to me is supposedly sending me an install of Tiger, would that help it recognize it? Im not really placing all my eggs in one basket either that he'll send it to me, any suggestions?
I just installed the Airport extreme wireless card on my emac, but I have run into some problems:
1)after installing the card, the mac took a very long time to start up, I tested to make sure it was the card: everytime I started it up without the card, it did the normal thing, but with the card, it took a long time
2)after finally starting up, nowhere can i find where/how to configure the wireless. When I go to configure the network, it has all options, but the airport card option is not usable.
So: how can i access the airport card settings to get wireless connectivity?
eMac stopped recognizing the Airport Extreme Card. I tried restarting, resetting PRAM and the PMU, and pulling the card in and out. Is there anything else I can try?
I have an eMac 800mhz and I'm having trouble discerning whether it's an "early" build which needs the original AP card or a later build. What exactly am I looking for in the system profiler to tip me off?
I have an aiport extreme card in my emac. It was installed around a year and a half ago and has workd fine until yesterday. it suddenly says that it is not configured. It also says the antenna cable is unplugged and that it is turned off. I tried to trouble shoot it with internet connection assistant which says cable is unplugged and aiport is off. I have taken the card out and reinstalled it and reattached the cable mutiple times to no avail. And yes, I know how hard it is to push in.
Info: eMac (ATI Graphics), Mac OS X (10.5.8), 1 GHz powerPC G4
i installed the airport extreme card from my G5 cos she wants it in her bedroom but it's not connecting to the router,
my router is a Thomson TG585 V7
i never had this problem with old airport, it only seems to be with extreme although the card was connecting to the network from my g5 was basically inches away from it, the Emac is on the floor about 2ft away i goto connect and it just keeps timing out, i've made sure the wpa key is correct and even tried manually entering the network config details.

I have a regular USB keyboard, not a mac one, so is there a button I can press to open my CD drive? I clicked F1-12 and nothing. Airport extreme card - Ive been reading posts on forums about the eMac and they said the regular Airport card isn't made anymore but the extreme is. Naturally, I was hoping my mac would require the latter so I could easily run out and buy one at an apple store. Unfortunately I found out they don't make the airport extreme anymore either. It's available on amazon and ebay, I know. BUT....does anyone know anything else I can use besides the airport extreme? I want to get hooked up to the internet before Monday so I can use AIM in my room and do some work over the weekend. Anything that I could find at Best Buy or some other store? Or even any alternative ways of getting the internet to work wirelessly (even just temporarily while I wait for the card to come in)? I've been googling a lot but google always want to change my "emac" to "imac" .

Right recently I took my airport card out of my emac to see if it was normal or extreme (it be extreme). I took the antenna off it then examined it then I put it back in the same way it said on apples website. It seemed simple enough .But no! It didn't work! now my emac does not even pick up the card, it said its not installed! Seriously I've tried everything! even forcing it in and even acupuncture (not really just thought it was funny) right so my airport cards not working.
i bought a lot of 5 eMacs at my local auction. i got 4 700mhz and one 1.0ghz. when i turned on the 700mhz i noticed that it had a card installed. now my question is how do i take it out? I ask b/c i wanna put it in my clamshells instead.
I would like to upgrade my 17" Powerbook G4 to wireless n, but I'd like to upgrade the internal airport extreme card instead of using a PC Card adapter.
Are there any options for this? Will this airport extreme card from early model MBPs work?
my specs: 17" pwrbk Hi-res 1.67 G4 late 2005 model: Powerbook 5,9
I currently own a G4 PowerBook running OS X 10.2.8 (archaic, I know) which I use as a word processor. I want to set it up to recieve my friend's 802.11 wireless signal (with his permission), which is sent out by a base station tied to a Windows machine. Two questions I have:
First, will an Apple PowerBook and Airport card be able to receive a signal from a Windows machine (I don't see why not, but...)? Secondly, I seem to only be able to find the AirPort Extreme card on the Apple Store. Will the Extreme card plug and play with my notebook, or not? Are there any good third-party cards that I can buy that will work well if not?
As the title says, will the new airport extreme card with 802.11n work in an old iMac G3 capable of adding an airport card? I know I need the card adaptor, but does this new one work fine, or do I need to buy an older version? Also, which old macs would have compatible airport cards?
I called Apple and they were very unhelpful about which airport card is required for the iMac G5 1.6 Ghz. I found a bunch on ebay (A1126) but I think those are for different models.
I have a Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 running OSX 10.5.8 and want to have wireless capability, if possible. There does not appear to be a dedicated slot for an Airport Extreme card on the motherboard, so I'm wondering if there's a card that would work in one of the spare PCI slots?
I bought an airport extreme card in 2006, and haven't tried installing it until this morning (always been hardwired!) Can't seem to figure it out now, as the card seems too small for the slot on my Powerbook G4.
I recently purchased a refurbished AirPort Extreme Card and AirPort antenna for my late 2004 Power Mac G5. My Mac is running on OS X Version 10.4.11. I properly installed them, since the computer notes the AirPort Extreme card in the "About Mac" menu. There are a couple of wireless networks near my home and the computer doesn't detect any of them. I've checked out previous forum discussions around this issue, tried some suggested troubleshooting to no avail. Can I presume the AirPort Extreme card is defective? It detects absolutely no signal from the other networks around here. Could the WEP password length of our router have anything to do with it? Do I need to download a driver to activate the AirPort Extreme Card? Could upgrading to a different operating system make it work?
I have used my airport extreme for several years. It now will only allow one computer to be connected to wireless at a time. When the new computer signs in shows disconnected. I am able to connect but then the original user is bumped off when they try to switch pages. Talked to provider and everything seems to be OK on their end. Modem works when plugged directly into computer using ethernet cable.
I am trying to install an airport card into my eMac ATI graphics machine. I bought the airport card (product number 630-2883/C) recommended for my model number. i was able to take apart the machine to find the slot I was supposed to insert the card into, but the width of the empty slot is just a tad to narrow; and I don't know why I can't insert the airport card when I bought the recommended version.
What is the best and cheapest way to get an airport extreme card? I do not want to do it myself. I just want to know the cheapest and fastest way, because I don't want to spend to much time away from my baby.
I bought this refurbished computer, which has Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard PowerPC G4,1.42 GHz, Single Core,512 MB, and 80 GB hard drive. I'm told it can probably use an Airport Express card #A1026. Is this correct? And, I was also told I would have to plug in the antenna. Anything else to get? (I already have a Netgear Router #WGR614)
