I set it up again and was able to connect to the internet, however since then I've been receiving an error message "Could not find a PPPoE Server." I went back into Preferences and unchecked the PPPoE server option but the error message still pops up. Â

Recently acquired an iMac G5, first time booting up I got the question mark of death screen.
Reinstalled the OS and now it is a 50/50 gamble that it will either boot up or give me a kernal panic message.
Question:Is there a way to tell what is the bad component? If it's the HD or Ram, I think I can replace them easily enough.
I currently have a 2010 Mac Mini connected to my TV with 3 external drives with my movies/tv shows/itunes attached. I have an old PPC g5 iMac in the other room doing nothing. Can I use that iMac as a server with the external drives attached and have Plex read them all from my network on the Mini?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy ISP requires that I connect via PPPoE. The lame ISP doesn't even have a quick setup [auto setup] process via CD or dmg. No problem as PPPoE isn't a problem even though I don't like it. If anything goes wrong I'm always having to fiddle with my PPPoE settings in Airport Utility etc. Sort of a nuisance. I'm using my Airport Express and get dropouts quite often. Could be torrent throttling, maybe not. The modem I have is the stock ISP modem which I don't like anyway because it only has one LAN port. I was thinking of buying my own modem. Can you buy any modem? Would that eliminate the requirement for a PPPoE connection? Is PPPoE required because of the the modem or ISP or both?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy PPPoE connection is via a direct cable from fiber link and I use no modem. The connection is always successful, but I can not seem to receive any data to load web pages. Weirdly, I can get online on Skype and can do video chats. I called RDSRCS technical assistance(Romania), but all they say is that my connection is good, and I have a problem with my computer, and they don't know much about Mac OS X. Any of you has ever experienced something like this? What could be the problem?

But I can't get the wireless for it setup. When I go to Airport utility (my router is a Time Capsule), I tell it to set up a new connection, give it a name and password, tell it to connect using pppoe and enter in the same username and password as given by my ISP for that, and finish and everything seems to go ok, and it shows that i connect to the network, but pages wont load...

I'm unable to get my Airport Express to connect to my 2006 iMac (the one with a max of 2GB RAM). Should it connect or did this model not have Airport capability? Does it need an Airport card (like where would you put it?)?
Do I need a separate modem or can I hook it into a PPPoE input?
I've set up my Netgear DGN2000 router in bridge mode to accommodate 4 machines to connect to the internet through a PPPoE broadband connection. The mac connects through airport.
All the PC's in the setup can browse without problems.
The mac however can only log into certain secure websites (like facebook, online forums, online banking ext) but then no further browsing is possible. MSN can also not log on. Other websites seems to work just fine.
I'm running OS x 10.4.11, Firefox 3.0.8, Safari 3.0.4.
Steps I have already taken to try and solve the problem is:
Adjusted the MTU value (ranging fro 1500 to 1300) of the router and Mac airport.
Setup up the ISP DNS server ip on the router and / or Mac airport connection. I also tried certain "open" DNS ips.
Cleared the Mac DNS cache
Cleared the browser history and cookies.
We are working via Xserve everyday. Sometimes, the performance can get very poor. Is there anyway to boot up the performance?
I am thinking of Indexing Xserve via a client workstation by using the mdutil command. I have the server mount on my desktop and everything is ready to go. But when i hit the command, i get an error saying "cannot set index on /volume/job"
This happens quite frequently on my mac book pro and my iphone.Is this normal? If I exit safari and restart, safari seems to be able to find the server or if I just click on a different saved bookmake and then go right back to the page it cannot find the server for, it works.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems navigating the Silpada website [URL]. Safari let's me get as far as to enter my log in info however does not allow me to log on. I get the error "Safari can't find server". I have the same exact problem using Opera. Firefox will let me log on usually but I can only navigate the website for about 10 minutes then it starts with the same type of error. I can access and navigate the website just fine from my pc, which has the same internet provider as my mac. I have emptied caches, reset the browsers, unchecked the web proxy, turned off all firewalls. Any suggestions on what to try next?

I have an airport extreme that was working perfectly until a few months ago when I started having problems going to a web site [URL] that I have visited numerous times in the past. I get the following error message: Safari can�t open the page [URL] because it can�t find the server �golfsmith. When I disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AEBS and connect it directly to the computer I am able to open this site. My Macbook Pro responds the same way wirelessly and when I go to another friends house I can connect to that site with my MBP. BTW my friends cannot connect to that site via my AEBS but can via their home router
I have reset the AEBS to factory defaults several times, restarted my Comcast cable modem then AEBS then iMac in the order specified. I have also tried changing my DNS settings to both opendns and DNS Advantage but I have the same results with both.
I also have a dashboard item that mysteriously stopped checking local gas prices and may be related to the problem. Also I suspect that sometimes when I click on a link in a search engine and get that message is the AEBS problem again.
I have a Mac Mini Server with OS X Server. I needed to reformat my disk and reinstall the Server OS. The disk was reformatted ok. Now when reinstalling from the original disks it asks: " enter mac os x server serial number". I do not have the server serial number (I did not know that I should have written it down from the about box before reformatting). I have kept all items that were shipped with the computer but I cannot find the serial number. It is not on the disk sleeves or any documentation that I can find. How do I find (or get a new) os x server serial number?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a strange issue after upgrading to Leopard. When I try to open certain pages in Safari it instantly gives me the "Safari can?t find the server" message. When I try to open the same page in Firefox at the same time it opens normally. For many pages (like this one) Safari is working fine. My connection seems good and this is happening on reliable sites (currently Safari won't open apple.com).

First off, when I try to go to a website, Safari will continuously load the website for about a minute, until the "Page cannot be displayed" or "Safari can't find the server" page comes up. Then, if I try to go to the website again, it works. Just like that. This happens up to twenty times daily. Also, if I try to view pictures on Google Images, it will not load all of them. I don't understand what the problem is. This has been happening for months now. Ever since I've upgraded to Safari 5, it's ten times worse. I can't explain why Safari does this. I have a 2.53 Ghz, 4GB RAM, and 250GB MacBook Pro (2009). I haven't even had the laptop for a year. I have Internet security on my Mac (Intego), but don't know if that could contribute to the problem.

I'm just setting up a new Mac Mini (5,3) Server but I can't find 'Workgroup Manager' installed, only the 'Server' app. Is this the difference between the Mac Mini and a 'real' server?Â
The server app seems to do most things but I want to create all the user accounts with a pre set password but force each user to create their own password on first login, I can't seem to find this option in the 'Server' app. I can do this in Workgroup Manager on my old 10.4 server that's being replaced.Â
