Is there a way to have a different mail password instead of using the one that you use to login to Lion directly? Currently the two are the same login password = mail password.I'd like to have a different password for the two.Is this possible whether via command line or otherwise?

My mac mail continues to regect my correct password. I've done a new password and have checked all mail settings in mail preferences. Nothing seems to work. Iphone and icloud work fine... it's just my mac mail that doesn't sync with my computer itself. Soooo frustrating!!!
I keep getting: The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “xxx”

I am getting a recurring probleme with my Mail app: "The IMAP server “imap.gmail.com” rejected the password for user “myaddress@gmail.com”. I cannot send or receive email through Mail.
What seems odd to me is that I can sign into the web version of gmail and see current email, but email received or sent is no longer happy in Mail. I have been using my gmail, set up as an IMAP account in Mail for months now.
Needless to say I've checked, rechecked, and made sure my password and username are both correct.

Every now and then, like just now, when I opened up mail I get a message, : Enter the password for Account MobileMe. The mobile me IMAP server 'mail.me.com rejected the password for user '______' Enter your password again or cancel. Mail normally comes up automatically as the password is stored. But I enter my correct password again and it still rejects it.This has happened before and usually self corrects in a day or so, but still is seriously annoying. My wife's MacBook Pro did this a couple days ago and still wont work. She has a MacBook Pro, I have a MacBook. They both run Snow Leopard and we both switched over to ICloud a while back.

For some unknown reason my mail program is just now asking for a password when I attempt to send an email. I verified the password with my ISP. When I go to the Mail program/Preferences/Accounts I see a screen that has three sections. The third section offers "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)" but offers no box allowing a server number such as 587... Why is that option missing? What is likely causing this sudden request for a password?

I just set up Mail 4.5 and am receiving incoming mails but can't send out my emails. I get a message saying the SMTP server rejected the password. I know it's the correct password, have entered it a few times now.

View 6 Replies View RelatedYesterday we set up the computer at the Apple Store. When entering the Password for the computer, apparently we thought we were entering one thing when in fact we entered something else. Now I can't log into the computer to install new printer software, reset/change my password or anything else. I have tried looking through the Manual for the iMac 27-inch, Mid 2011 and can't find anything for resetting the password, finding it in the Keychain Access, etc. The computer is a waste if I can't reset the password to install the apps I need on it.

IMAP server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” rejected the password for user " Getting very frustrated with it. I have tried removing the account and repacing and also changing the password. At work I work on a mac, but our files are on shared windows network drives. There's one particular drive which causes our mac users problems. It doesn't happen on all folders/files, but on some of them the following happens.I try to move a folder to another location, but then suddenly my mac asks for the system password. I fill that in and press ok, but nothing is moved. The folder is still in the same location. This only happens om certain folders and the funny thing is: when I try it on of the following days, the problem for that folder is gone and I can move the folder to the folder I wanted it to move.
But in the meantime there are other folders which can't be moved.Support - being not into Mac strangely enough - says it's a Mac problem and I should update to 10.7. It happens only to me and my colleagues at the place/office where I work. The windows server is at some place else so everything goes via internet.I keep insisting it's some kind of permissions thingy. Support says it's a Mac thing. What can be the problem and how can I make it clear to them that is isn't a mac thing?
I am using Macbook Pro (OS Lion), unable to send/receive emails. I have reset all settings (no help). Problem is temporarily resolved by logging into webmail but then issue returns once Apple Mail app is shut down and then re-opened. Server tech support (Rogers/Yahoo) says that the mail client keeps sending the wrong password so the account gets locked out. I have changed the password and re-entered all the mail settings?

I have experienced problems with a POP outgoing server for some time on both my MacBook and IMac - incoming is OK. I have contacted the service provider and they say that all codes and log-in details are correct and that they can send from Webmail server ( and so can I). I can also use the outgoing server on my iPhone so it suggests that something is wrong in the settings on the iMac and MacBook - but they are correct and the same as the iPhone.I notice that this server shows 'offline' in th setting box - is this a clue?. I have not found anyway of making this server go on-line.
