Applications :: Safari Continuously Loads - Can't Find Server
Jun 12, 2010
I've had a lot of trouble with Safari. First off, when I try to go to a website, Safari will continuously load the website for about a minute, until the "Page cannot be displayed" or "Safari can't find the server" page comes up. Then, if I try to go to the website again, it works. Just like that. This happens up to twenty times daily. Also, if I try to view pictures on Google Images, it will not load all of them. I don't understand what the problem is. This has been happening for months now. Ever since I've upgraded to Safari 5, it's ten times worse. I can't explain why Safari does this. I have a 2.53 Ghz, 4GB RAM, and 250GB MacBook Pro (2009). I haven't even had the laptop for a year. I have Internet security on my Mac (Intego), but don't know if that could contribute to the problem.

This is a pretty weird problem I've been having on and off for the past few months... Every now and then, when I type a URL into Safari, it loads a completely different site... For example, [URL].will load [URL].. This usually lasts for around 30 minutes or so, and then it goes back to normal. The URLs affected vary... right now, when I try to load [URL]., Safari loads an error page from Yahoo! (but the URL in the address bar is still [URL].). If I try to go directly to Gmail by typing in mail.google.com, Safari says "cannot connect to server". I attached a screenshot of what happens when I go to [URL].

I got a new imac about three weeks ago, and I can't understand why safari randomly will display the wrong pages for the site i want to go. I'm on one site then after clicking on a line it will load up another page i may have visited before or at the same time in another tab. Example i'm trying to access a clothing store and its showing me an ebay error, i get random errors trying to go to youtube, i try going to wikipedia and it loads cragslist. Is it malware?

When I loaded up the same page on my pc and mac side by side that the safari version of the page had very poor pictures, i.e. you could see loads of artifacts of the jpg compression. The page I loaded was [URL] and you can see the picture of mr Mac and mr PC stood side by side. I have tried looking through Safari preferences but don't see anything anywhere that would indicate picture compression? Another point I think I should make is that the mac is a macbook and it is running over a 54g network.
So I thought maybe it realised that the speed wasn't up to scratch and therefore adjusted the picture quality itself? Needless to say I did plug in an ethernet lead and after a couple of refreshes the page loaded and the pictures were perfect. Which sort of answered my question? but 54g is a fast enough speed to have high quality images and I thought I should have the choice of selecting this myself?

I don't get any error message, just a blank page showing nothing. I don't get no time-out message or anything. I have Mac OS 10.5.8 and Safari 5.0.2 and I have tried deleting the cookies and resetting the cache.
Besides I also noticed that while trying to load [URL] the page won't load but I can see the source code.

This happens quite frequently on my mac book pro and my iphone. Is this normal? If I exit safari and restart, safari seems to be able to find the server or if I just click on a different saved bookmake and then go right back to the page it cannot find the server for, it works.

I'm having a strange issue after upgrading to Leopard. When I try to open certain pages in Safari it instantly gives me the "Safari can?t find the server" message. When I try to open the same page in Firefox at the same time it opens normally. For many pages (like this one) Safari is working fine. My connection seems good and this is happening on reliable sites (currently Safari won't open apple.com).

Opening some PDFs in Safari 5.1.7 browser, PDFs appear as gibberish. Example, it will begin:
[code]....
The same PDF link will show up in Firefox just fine. Since Safari is my default, what can I do to view PDFs reliably? I can't find a similar problem anywhere online.

My macbook, version 10.5.8, started crashing today. There was an update for Adobe Flash Update that popped up earlier today (I think it wanted to install a debugger), I X'd it out because I was doing something else (bad mistake), and now Safari crashes continuously every time I log in. I've tried to download things to my laptop to fix the problem, but Safari crashes before the download can even get halfway through. I've even tried to find the flash update for earlier, but either I can't find it or Safari doesn't stay open long enough for the update to download. The strange thing is, this is only happening on one account on my laptop– the one where the Adobe Flash Update popped up on. The other account on my laptop has Safari working fine (but it's not the account I want to use). Â

I'm not sure what started this but suddenly Safari continuously crashes and re-crashes when trying to re-open. This is frustrating as I don't see many reports on this problem on this site.

Background:  On several occasions, now, I've installed and reinstalled (completely cleaned off) Safari on my  (1) Toshiba A505-S6017 (laptop - 8GB RAM) -- running Windows 7-64 and (2) on my Gateway desktop (7GB paging file) -- running Windows XP  I've rebooted after every reinstall. From what I hear, it's a wonderful addition to my browser suite -- all my other browsers continue to work fine: Chrome, Firefox, Opera.Â
A. PROBLEM: Each time I try to use this reputable program (version 5.2 (7534.52.7), I encountered the following problem: Program (1) loads instantly, (2) presents the browser space, (3) agrees to open new tabs, (4) but when I try to direct it to ANY URL at all, the hour-glass appears, but the wait is fruitness. I cannot reach any site at all. I've tried to access the program, both as "administrator" and regular "user." No joy. All I ever get showing is the interesting interface (and an hour-glass on an URL-call) and nothing else.Â
B. ALSO: I have also noticed something I'm not sure is normal or not: ln my file-directory, I only see the program icon for Safari, but NO file directory or ancillary files -- is this normal? Â
Does anyone have any help to offer an intensely motivated future user?  P.S. If I eventually get through this problem on my own, I'll return here and tell what I did -- but I'm starting to doubt my abilities .Â

Whenever I open Safari, it loads all tabs left open from the last session, not just the active one. It takes forever and I have to manually "x" each tab to get them to stop loading. I don't remember this being a problem pre-Lion.

I like and use Top Sites but it has become unsuable with this constant blacking out and reloading the thumbnails. My MBP has not seen a problem at all.Â
I have been searching every other day for over a month trying to find a fix in Windows Safari with no joy. I want to resolve, not switch browsers. only refreshes the Top Site thumbnails once a day or as some controlable interval. Started about two versions ago, now on ver 5.1.5. Windows 7 64bit.

When I open up safari, every webpage works. But, randomly www.--------.net loads up blank. Reloading does not help either. Every other page works still. The only way I can fix it is to force quit safari and then reload the program...I have tried deleting the com.apple.safari.plist and the only extension I use is LastPass.

I have a Macbook Pro (Lion originally installed) running on Mavericks (all latest updates). SSD installed and the DVD tray is replaced by the original HDD.Â
The laptop wasn't running very smooth anymore so decided to give it a fresh Mavericks install (even though I know it's not really necessary for mac, everything is much faster except a weird internet problem came up).
After freshly installing Mavericks I couldn't get into my google account anymore, just wouldn't load. Tried Safari (use this normally) and Firefox and Chrome, this last was gave a SSL connection error, both Safari and FF said the website couldn't be loaded because the server didn't respond. For Gmail I use Mailplane which is just stuck on a white page. I tried repairing the keychain, repaired disk and disk permissions, cleaned browsers, turned off firewall and antivirus (Shopos) started in safe mode, checked time settings which were all good. Nothing... I even ended up creating a usb bootdisk for Mavericks, formatted the disk and reinstalled from the start just Mavericks and nothing else, started Safari, still the same problem. I figured it's not worth reinstalling all software so put back my backup.
Now I ended up somehow only being able to use Gmail normally in Firefox, Chrome still gives SSL error and Safari can load the inbox, but I can't open any messages. I get the error there is a problem with the connection. If I try in Basic HTML mode it surprisingly does work.
You would say, just use Firefox, finished...but the thing is that sometimes random websites won't load in Firefox, when I load the same site in Safari it works perfectly.
O yes, I also tried the connect to my iPhone and use the Cellular data network, then it's no problem using Gmail in Safari normally. You would say it's a router problem, but I have another Macbook Pro (just one model later running Mountain Lion) this one works perfectly with every browser. Also my iPhone does everyting logged into the WiFi network.Â

If I hit command-space and begin typing something in Spotlight, then go to Safari 4 and hit command-F, the search box is prefilled with whatever I typed in Spotlight. I don't know if this is the intended behavior or not, but I don't recall it happening in Safari 3.

I know that firefox has foxtorrent, and opera has a bittorrent downloader built-in, but I'm not really interested in switching browsers. I have looked everywhere but to no avail for a plugin that integrates directly into safari that can handle torrents.
