I've just received a used 12" PowerBook which is in superb condition except for the feet. The original little Apple feet are missing, and the previous user has stuck large, flat, rubber feet on the bottom. I think they are the self-adhesive sort as they have slipped a little, leaving little outlines of residue on the base. The feet themselves seem fairly secure, but they are big, ugly, and slightly uneven so the case rocks very slightly. Does anybody have any advice on how to remove stuff stuck to a PowerBook case and how to clean it up? I might just buy proper Apple replacement feet (I know they are pricey), but the residue on the bottom case annoys me. How could anyone stick something on such a beautiful machine?
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" with extra-dense pixels, but have lost my original disks. Is there any way to get hold of the AHT for this model? It original shipped with Snow Leopard but I have upgraded it to Lion. Since this is a hardware test I am running though, I assume that the AHT is tied to my hardware model rather than the Mac OS. I did try restarting and holding down 'D' both with no internet connection and with an internet connection - just in case - but got no joy.

The "feet" (or pads, or whatever) have fallen out of my 12" G4 1.33 Ghz iBook. These are the small rubber parts in the top corners of my monitor. Does anyone know where I can find replacements for these? I was going to simply let it go, but this laptop is about to be passed on to my little sister-in-law and receive at least another year or two of abuse. I assume these tiny parts help keep the monitor away from the keyboard, making the computer look much better.
I replaced my hard drive and everything worked great for a day or two, I could transfer data off the old60 onto the new 120HD via the firewire enclosure.
I have a Tibook G4, need more space. then my pictures wouldn't load on the exterior, i've been days trolling the internet for answers, like 25 hours now. And now suddenly it can't get itunes open either. I did nothing!
i can go into the finder, navigate to my old itunes which shows that it's there (it's 7.1) and when i open it, it opens itunes4 off the new internal drive (fresh install of OSX had not been upgraded yet). (and the songs i had imported off CDs fresh into itunes4 on the new drive are gone as well, it's empty.)
same with iphoto, if i can get it to open at all, it ends up opening the application off the new drive and other aps won;t work now as well.
today i changed the home name to see if that helped (it was just left the same as the old homefolder name, thought that might explain the confusion) no change.
iphoto says it won't load, sometimes says it needs to be updated, or says files missing. (i did drag pictures and 3 .avi's off from the library that first day) or opens the new drive's copy of iphoto. itunes opens the new drive's version, and songs i imported fresh are now missing, but were there two days ago. this problem start about 5 days ago.
i reformatted the empty drive, as per instructions, when installing. was i supposed to change user names or passwords or not drag files across to the new drive?
so many questions...such a huge waste of time. pretty miserable at this stage. [URL]
Is the new asymmetrical fans in the Retina MBP an original design by Apple? I don't see cooling fan companies like Scythe having that design. If so, that's a great innovation to decrease fan noise significantly.
I have a summer 2005 14" iBook G4 that I'd like to wipe and give to a friend, but I seem to have lost my install disks somewhere in one of my moves in the last 5 years. The Apple Store employee I talked to said I should make an appointment at the Genius Bar and they'll do a wipe and reinstall for me, but I'm not interested in putting much more money into this since I'm giving it to a friend as a favor (hers just died). Any suggestions for how to get a copy of the right OS and all the iLife software, too? It has Tiger, but I could put Leopard on it, if that's easier to get a hold of.
I am selling an iBook G4 and I can't seem to find the restore discs. Is there anyway to restore it to it's original form without them? If not, does anybody know how to go about getting them?
I just sold my 15" PB and want to reformat it for the new owner. I lost the original install discs, but I have a legit retail version of Tiger just for this machine. Can I do the hold down 'C' thing, or is there something special about the original install discs?
I wonder if anyone can give me the basic steps to setting up a RAID array on a Powermac G4 (I think I mean a Raid 0 ie one extra hard drive).I have looked up a couple of articles but they advise to use the original install disc during the set up process. Unfortunately I don't have the original install disc. I have available one extra internal hard drive and one external hard drive.
I would like to set it up so that there are two internal hard drives with one replicating to the other one.
I'm have an old iBook Clamshell 320mb of RAM with OS X 10.2.8 installed, and today I tried to replace the Extras.rsrc with the "Liger" theme (you know the one that makes it look like leopard?) but I didn't know it wouldn't work with 10.2 so I took the original put it in a folder on the desktop called 'System Files Needed Don't Delete' and then I restarted the computer, and it won't boot to the login screen and just stays blue with the cursor. Is there some way I can fix this without installing 10.1.4 again, and not sending it to a friend who can install 10.2.8? I only have the 10.1.4 install disk.
I have an eMac 800mhz and I'm having trouble discerning whether it's an "early" build which needs the original AP card or a later build. What exactly am I looking for in the system profiler to tip me off?
I have a 10gb hard drive off the original iBook that had to be replaced. I'm wondering if I can buy an enclosure (or some other setup) in order to transfer the data to my new MBP.
I've looked at some other posts that have gone over how to move files to an external drive, and they all say to use command while moving. I understand this copies the file and deletes the original, but when you make a copy and delete the original, you lose some of the original data, such as creation date, etc... This makes storage and organization more complicated than it has to be.
My wireless used to work throughout my whole apartment. It's a small one bedroom...then one day it only worked while I was in the room with the router close to my router. This also happens at my parent's house, my boyfriend's house, at coffee shops etc....everyone elses computer gets access just fine but mine cannot even see the access point. Any one have any idea what happened or how to fix it?
One of the four rubber feet on the bottom of my MBP has fallen off. Is this covered by Applecare? Can I just pretty much walk in, talk to a Genius and get a new on on the spot?
With the laptop open and sitting on a flat surface (granite countertop), I can press the lower left corner of the laptop down about 0.5 -1 mm and the computer wobbles a bit. It seems that the little black feet are not the same thickness all around. I am really surprised because Apple is so fanatical about having such low manufacturing tolerances... yet they somehow overlook the feet. Anyone else out there having this issue on their brand new unibody Macbook Pro? Does this go away after the feet have time to wear down a little?
So I dropped my macbook pro and it was opened and it landed face down (screen/keyboard hit floor) and I picked it up immediately and plugged it back into the charger. The screen is black and it will not turn on and is making no noises or anything. When I plugged the charger back in, the light went green, but otherwise the computer is completely unresponsive. It has a plastic shell on it, but I still think that something could be wrong. Can this be fixed?! If so, how?!

The trash icon on the left side of the Mail window (under inbox, drafts, etc) disappeared a week ago. I have tried all the pref combos under mail pref>accounts>mailbox behaviour>trash
I am using Mail, Address Book and iCal synced with my Google account.Â
When I send an email to a contact via Apple Mail on Mac OS X and the contact does not have a lastname include, Apple Mail replaces the blank lastname with the contact's first name.Â
For example, if I send an email to "Dad", the contact later appears on all my synced devices as "Dad Dad".Â
This is only the case when I use Apple Mail on the desktop, not on iOS.Â
I am trying to figure out why I can select some email addresses from senders, and when I right click, I get the option to add that address to my contacts, while in others this selection is missing. In either case, the email address or contact IS NOT in my contacts.
so one of the rubbery feet things on the bottom of my MBP decided to fall off at one point, meaning that there's a conveniently sizeable hole for dust to find its way into should it decide to :P I booked an appointment with my local Genius bar (Glasgow Store) and they didn't have the feet in at the time.... and all they could do was replace the whole back plate for ?25 + VAT :S which i wasn't expecting tbh, and resulted in a wasted trek from Edinburgh to get there!
Iwe know that Apple is building a huge server farm that almost certainely is pertaining to MobileMe or its sucessor. We also know that that iWeb is rather tied to the web and MobileMe (off course I know that you can use iWeb without MobileMe). And the MacApp Store is coming in less t han 90 days I think that the iLife suite is being deprecated and the four apps are going to be sold individually in the MacApp Store. Thereby they can have individual releases.
I have the new 1080p Apple TV and have converted videos using Hand Brake (with the old Apple TV preset). My problem is that when I drag these videos into my iTunes library on my Mac, they don't show up in the Movies or TV Shows sections, but then when I go to Computers -> Movies -> Unknown Genre on the Apple TV, the videos show up there. If I go back to iTunes on my Mac and go to Movies, that movie isn't showing up even if I turn on the Column Browser and look at the All section. Is it possible that I'm making videos that are compatible with the Apple TV but not iTunes? I don't get any error messages or any indication that the file got added to the library. The video in question is an M4V, with "H.264, AAC, AC3" listed under codecs in Finder's Get Info, 1280x720, 2,083 total bit rate. I'm on Lion and have everything up to date.
I came from the MS Windows PC. I love everything about the Macbook Air and the Apple OS; however, I get used to the Delete, End, and Home buttons. Is there a way on the Apple keyboard that I can simulate these functions? With these buttons, I can easily move to the end or start of a sentence for word process editing. I can delete from the right side of the sentence instead of using the arrow on the Apple keyboard to move it to the right and then use the Delete (which is really a Backspace key) to delete the word.
I noticed the apple web page icon to be missing from the dock. You can still use the mouse and click on it with positive results. However, it is disconcerting to have the icon go missing with an OS update.
