My wireless used to work throughout my whole apartment. It's a small one bedroom...then one day it only worked while I was in the room with the router close to my router. This also happens at my parent's house, my boyfriend's house, at coffee shops etc....everyone elses computer gets access just fine but mine cannot even see the access point. Any one have any idea what happened or how to fix it?

Ability to add one or more USB harddrives and printer able to read and write data from the USB harddrives and printer, both from a mac and pc. Is there anything better than the airport extreme, and what problems do you encounter when using it.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI connect to a wireless router in work and at home, for home i just set the setting through firefox to connect "auto-detect proxy settings for this network" and it works fine, but in work, this does not work, i have to set it to "Manual proxy configuration" with an ip address the it department give me. What i would like to know are 2 things:
1) Am i doing the right thing my changing the settings in Firefox, or should these setting be configured outside of the browser?
2) How can i set this up, so i don't have to keep changing it form auto to manual each time.
I must admit that this posting is a last resort. However, remarkably, on narrowing the problem it seems it has to do with an unknown default setting on my Mac OS X Leopard on both my MacBook and iMac.
This week I invested in two new Wireless-N routers - Belkin and D-Link - and both fail to perform. The problem manifests itself as follows:
- When my Apple is wirelessly connected to the router, it takes a very long time to pull up any website. And unless I am imagining things, it seems to first pause when the blue progress indicator reaches just beyond "[URL]" each time. It is slow loading beyond this initial pause as well.
- When I change my security from WPA2 to WEP to None, it makes no difference whatsoever.
- When my Apple is connected to the router via ethernet, it performs very well. Each website appears very quickly and as expected i.e. no wireless connection.
- Very surprisingly, when I am using Windows via Boot Camp on my iMac, it performs very well when *wirelessly* connected. This threw me a little. This is what led me to suspect there's a default configuration with my Mac OS X that is causing the problem.
- In light of the above point, I have not yet checked to see whether wireless frequency or channel affect the download speed.
- For 2.5 years I had been using a Netgear Wireless-G router without any problem.
Might anyone know what the problem is? Or at the very least how better to diagnose it?
My macbook wont load any web pages. It is connected to my wifi network and it says my Internet connection is good under my network settings. All my other devices on the network have no issues (ipad2, 2-iPhone 4's and 2-PS3s). Also when I connect my MacBook to my router with an Ethernet cable it loads any and all web pages instantly. I also tried installing Firefox thinking it may have been an issue with safari. No luck there. The issue was intermittent at first and would require I restart my computer/router and then issue would be corrected. Now the internet wont load any pages at all. I also tried zapping the PRAM, flushing the DNS cache, removing files from the system config folder under Library/Preferences/system configuration and a few other things I can't exactly remember. My MacBook is up to date, my routers firmware is up to date. I even tried tethering my MacBook to my iPhone via wireless Internet and still could not load any websites.

I have an HP Photosmart and have endless problems with scanning to my iMac and printing from it.While there is some HP software to support the Mac, there's far more for Windows. Is there a wireless printer that will work better with my iMac?

View 8 Replies View RelatedWith the laptop open and sitting on a flat surface (granite countertop), I can press the lower left corner of the laptop down about 0.5 -1 mm and the computer wobbles a bit. It seems that the little black feet are not the same thickness all around. I am really surprised because Apple is so fanatical about having such low manufacturing tolerances... yet they somehow overlook the feet. Anyone else out there having this issue on their brand new unibody Macbook Pro? Does this go away after the feet have time to wear down a little?

View 22 Replies View RelatedSo I dropped my macbook pro and it was opened and it landed face down (screen/keyboard hit floor) and I picked it up immediately and plugged it back into the charger. The screen is black and it will not turn on and is making no noises or anything. When I plugged the charger back in, the light went green, but otherwise the computer is completely unresponsive. It has a plastic shell on it, but I still think that something could be wrong. Can this be fixed?! If so, how?!

View 3 Replies View Relatedso one of the rubbery feet things on the bottom of my MBP decided to fall off at one point, meaning that there's a conveniently sizeable hole for dust to find its way into should it decide to :P I booked an appointment with my local Genius bar (Glasgow Store) and they didn't have the feet in at the time.... and all they could do was replace the whole back plate for ?25 + VAT :S which i wasn't expecting tbh, and resulted in a wasted trek from Edinburgh to get there!

View 16 Replies View RelatedI have a IMac 10.6.2 and my wireless mouse and wired mouse only goes in 1 vertical position using the ball on top of mouse. It works if I use the right margin to go up and dragging it. It was working great and then this occured. My trackpad is fine??

Every once in a while the mouse pad will stop working. A wireless mouse will work in its place. The keyboard will also act extremely slow during this time. It seems like the buffer is full and it moves on to the next letter i type without using the previously typed letter.

i have a problem with my bootcamp. I had installed all of the drivers and everything works fine excepts the wireless connection which is very slow. I had internet connection but it is very very slow and thats not right... i installed the 2.1 drivers from my Mac Disc. Any suggestions how to fix this ?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently completely a wire pull from the network hub (Dell Power Connect?) in the office of a church, to a computer in a different room of the church. I plugged in the cat5e cable to the computer, it connects to the network, computers on the network can access it's public folders and remote access it, but the computer cannot browse the internet using the built-in ethernet plug. The wireless-internet on the computer allows me to navigate the internet just fine.
With the Airport turned off, and the ethernet plugged in, I can ping [URL] with 0% packet loss, but when I try to connect to google on Safari or Firefox it says that Safari/Firefox cannot connect to the server.
My wi fi iPad works fine on wireless home network but the Mac will not connect to internet even through airport diagnostics shows connectivity ok, how can I resolve?

I just installed a Seagate 500gb, 7200rpm hard drive in my 13" MBP that was updated to EFI Firmware Update 1.7. Clean install of OS X and iLife '09 & iWork '09 went fast. It's quite and fast compared to my old Samsung 500gb, 5400rpm hard drive. It was worth the $120 I spent on it!

I have 3 routers that I am networking together via an ethernet cable. I know most of you are going to jump on me and ask "why?" instead of focusing on my question, so the reason is this; I would like to have a simul cast of the wireless network for G and N. some of you already know if you have a G device on an N network, the N drops down to G speeds. we have some old laptops and iphones that don't have N but we also have a ps3 and some N macbooks. How do I get all 3 routers on the same "network"? i've managed to get all computers wired and non on the internet, but i cant get them to find each other. for example my iphone cant use apple remote on itunes because my n macbook is on the N router. so they won't "see" each other

The Ethernet cables for the 2 attached routers go to their wan ports. I've tried disabling the DHCP servers on the belkin and linksys' but still nothing.
I am looking to replace a Apple Base Station router that has seemingly been fried by lightening.
Are there other, less expensive options out there that are plug-n-play with PPC Macs?
Also, can anybody recommend a good quality ethernet surge suppressor for a router?

I've just received a used 12" PowerBook which is in superb condition except for the feet. The original little Apple feet are missing, and the previous user has stuck large, flat, rubber feet on the bottom. I think they are the self-adhesive sort as they have slipped a little, leaving little outlines of residue on the base. The feet themselves seem fairly secure, but they are big, ugly, and slightly uneven so the case rocks very slightly. Does anybody have any advice on how to remove stuff stuck to a PowerBook case and how to clean it up? I might just buy proper Apple replacement feet (I know they are pricey), but the residue on the bottom case annoys me. How could anyone stick something on such a beautiful machine?

The "feet" or "coasters" or whatever you want to call them fell off the bottom of my MBP. I think the heat from the laptop melted the adhesive until they eventually came off. Only one remains. Anyway, I'd like to buy some extra ones and crazy glue them on. Anyone know where I can pick some up?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro and I had AT&T help me with the settings in OS X so that I can surf the internet with my modem via ethernet. Everything worked fine. Then I installed Windows XP SP3 with Bootcamp and bought a Linksys Wireless N Router. I used the install disk on the PC side to get the router working, assuming that the Mac side would work just fine when it found the network. Now I can connect to the wireless router when I'm in my PC partition, but when I try using my Mac partition. It does not work. (Ethernet works with both) When using other people's wifi connection, I have no problem. Only at my house do I have this connectivity issue.
