PowerPC :: Restoring IBook G4 But Do Not Have Original Discs
Dec 13, 2006
I am selling an iBook G4 and I can't seem to find the restore discs. Is there anyway to restore it to it's original form without them? If not, does anybody know how to go about getting them?

I just sold my 15" PB and want to reformat it for the new owner. I lost the original install discs, but I have a legit retail version of Tiger just for this machine. Can I do the hold down 'C' thing, or is there something special about the original install discs?

I just bought the new 24" iMac and I looked at the backup discs and they said it could install OSX Tiger. I also have an old iBook G4 I got my moms friend who moved. I know the iBook could handle 10.4 as it has 10.3.9 now but what I was wondering was. If I could install the OS on the iBook from the iMac backup discs. I but the disc in the iBook and it wanted me to restart to begin the installation of OSX but I quickly backed out. Do you guys think If I proceed with the installation it will install smoothly or, should I just forget about it.

However, I don't have the iBook's system discs because my mother lost them (she was using the iBook until I gave her my MacBook).
I called Apple to get new system discs, and they sent me an OSX 10.5.6 Retail Install DVD to install on the iBook, but this doesn't include iLife.
Obviously it's not the end of the world if I don't include iLife (even if it is iLife 05), but I think it would help me sell the iBook if iLife was included.

I have a late 2009 iMac that came with Snow Leopard, but has been upgraded to Lion via the App store, so I have no recovery discs. I tried reinstalling Lion with the built in recovery, but it did not wipe HD clean. I know I need to erase the HD in Disc Utility, but then I won't have a way to reinstall Lion.

iMac, iOS 5.0.1

Last week I got my RAM upgraded from 512MB to 2GB on my Mac mini Intel Core Solo 1.5GHz 2006 model, and I wanted to reinstall Mac OS X Tiger (using the original discs that came with my machine). Just wondering if the RAM has changed (i.e. since mine is now 2GB) the original discs won't work? Cause right now I try slotting in DVD 1 of the installation discs and it just stays on the Apple splash screen with the continually spinning icon underneath the Apple logo - won't go any further. At first I thought it might be either the DVD drive or something else but a friend suggested it may be the RAM that's not making the discs work as according to him the discs will only work with the original hardware and specs (i.e. 512MB RAM) of the machine (unless its a retailer version).
Found out it was partition related that's causing the disc not to boot past the Apple splash screen. I accidentally deleted the hidden OEM partition when messing with partitions (and this is what makes the grey discs ability to boot into the installer). I went to an Apple authorised service provider near my area and they tested a retail copy of the Mac Box Set of Snow Leopard and it booted into it fine - purchased Snow Leopard Mac Box Set yesterday, installed perfectly . If you have Tiger or don't have leopard currently installed, you need to purchase the Mac Box Set of Snow Leopard at approximately $129/$169.

I have Sibelius 7 installed on my MacBook Pro. It is licensed to a friend of mine, he gave me the second license that comes with the software. I am looking to reset my Mac to Factory Settings, as if it's new, but I would like to reinstall Sibelius once it has been reset. The problem is, I don't have the original discs, my friend has them. Am I able to reinstall Sibelius from a back up without the original discs, or should I wait until I can use the discs again?
I'm running a MacBook Pro with OS X Version 10.9.3 with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with 8GB of memory.

I have a Mac mini running OSX 10.4.11 that I purchased second-hand. It did not come with the original install discs. I want to give it to my grandson now that I have a new i-Mac, but cannot figure out how to remove myself from the Admin position and substitute him.

My computer HD failed and I cant start my macbook at all. The computer boots and shows a question mark on a folder and the HD clicks so I assume thats the problem. I'm getting ready to order a new one and I can't find my original install disks. Can I do a fresh install of the OS on a new HD with just the Leopard install disk? I have a set of Mac Pro install disks, but don't know if they will work (missing divers?).

So there I was with my dock on the right-hand side in 2D mode, and having now switched it to the bottom I realise I switched in some new dock image files back when Leopard came out, and now I've got a funky multicoloured spectrum dock.
All well and good, but I don't think I have any of the original dock image files anywhere. Short of reinstalling Leopard from scratch, is there any way (or utility) to get my dock back to the default Leopard version?

I just bought a Mac Book pro 13 (last model) and I tried to use assistant migration to migrate everything from my old Mac Book (OS X LIon and updated), by ethernet connexion by cable, but the operation avorted twice. No interesting solution for the moment from the Apple Care telephone ahelp. They seem as bewildered as me.
I am looking for a solution in my old Mac, but before going in the Old Mac to see what's going wrong (I had done, though, the necessary adjustment, like deactivation of all applications opening automatically, never deactivate hard drive, unlink my computer to Dropbox etc..) I want to restore my new Mac Book Pro with its original features (without any trace of the precedent operation, or user accounts etc..)
SO: Is it better to format hard disk and restore original adjustments (as if I had just open the computer) or to use in Disk utilities the command "Reinstall Mac OS X and its application"?
I should think it is the first solution but I liked an advise from more clever folks than me.
Secondary question:Could the problem be because my new Mac Pro had been configured in the Apple Store with the same user account than the one on my old Mac (and same Apple ID)? Or is there other possibilities?

Mac Book, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

I have copied many Cd's and digital music files to iTunes but since restoring my hard drive, this message appears every time I click of most songs in my library: "...original file can not be found. Would you like to locate it?" However, I can't find it.

I couldn't find these original discs when I sold my old iBook SE (on ebay)... so naturally, I run across them a couple weeks later.
Does anybody need a set of original install CD's (including Hardware Test CD) for an iBookSE?
It's OS 9.0.4 Software Restore, Software Install, Apple Hardware Test
I'll hold them for a few days if someone wants them... if not, they go in the trash.

I have an ibook g4 early 2004, my computer had problem with the HD and i had the change ir for a new one. After I installed the new hardware (samsung IDE 160 GB) my mac wont boot from the original installation CD's. It boots up, shows me the apple logo, stays there for a while and then shows me a forbidden sign. I have tried with Disk Warrior and the same thing happens. In a desperate move to see if the disk was correctly installed, i booted up a version of yellow dog linux, and it can recognize the newly installed HD. I have tried booting up the machine, pressing option button to display boot up options, but the machine freezes everytime i do that. I have also tried to run Apple Hardware test but keeps freezing also in the splash screen that shows a little mac with the words "loading...". The disk is recognized by yellow dog, so i dont think is trashed... how can i format the disk and install panther?

i have a powermac g5 dual 1.8 tower. the dvd burner is a pioneer dvd-rw dvr-107d. according to the system profiler, this should be able to burn either - or +R discs and cds. also, the computer belonged to a friend who was using it to burn dvds up until the day she delivered it to me.
i switched out the harddrive and reinstalled everything fresh (in case that matters.)
now when i put in a blank dvd or cd (different brands, different formats) it comes up with an error message that says: This disc cannot be used because it is not recognized.

I've got an aging powerpc iBookG4 that came with OSX Panther (10.3)... time's taken it's toll on the old thing and it needs a refresh. Problem is I can't find the install discs, would I be able to use the install discs that came with my intel MacBook? I think buying a copy of Leopard would be too much for it.

There's no disc in the drive, but it's locked up and won't accept a disc into the slot whatever I do. It never had trouble reading discs before--none of the spinning-without-reading issues I'm seeing other people have had. I have frequently ended up with ghost discs, when the computer hangs onto a disc image (or two) after ejecting the actual discs, but it's never caused a real problem. There is no disc image now.
She is an old lady of a 12" titanium Powerbook G4. 867 MHz, 640 MB ram, running Panther 10.3.9.

I have a G3 iBook and just the other day the display stopped working. There were no signs of the display going bad, it's just went. Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.

My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^
Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.
