I purposely deleted the Mail application from my Macbook. Went into Finder and moved the app icon to trash can. I thought this would do the trick, but now it randomly shows up on the toolbar but won't open. How do I get rid of this thing?

I closed the Mail application for a software update and now the icon is missing. When I tried to restore it from applications, I got an error message that said Mail 3.6 was not supported by Mac OSX (lion 10.7.3) What to do? I tried to follow the technical support stuff, but it did not make sense. I also tried to restore from Time Capsule, and still got the same error message.

I am using Mail, Address Book and iCal synced with my Google account.Â
When I send an email to a contact via Apple Mail on Mac OS X and the contact does not have a lastname include, Apple Mail replaces the blank lastname with the contact's first name.Â
For example, if I send an email to "Dad", the contact later appears on all my synced devices as "Dad Dad".Â
This is only the case when I use Apple Mail on the desktop, not on iOS.Â

I am trying to figure out why I can select some email addresses from senders, and when I right click, I get the option to add that address to my contacts, while in others this selection is missing. In either case, the email address or contact IS NOT in my contacts.

My load images bottom has disappeared. I have mail set up with a preview pane below the inbox list.
Other mail programmes like Thunderbird allow me to request a read receipt so that I know the email has been received and read. I connot find this useful function in Apple's Mail. Am I just missing it?

Over the last few days I've noticed a problem with missing icons. It seems to mainly effect icons in the Trash but I have one or two missing icons for videos and apps within the Finder and on the Desktop. The icon is completely gone - I have to click on the filename to select it. Quicklook works OK (for video).
I can't think of anything I've installed that would have done it except Onyx, but I haven't run that in weeks. I did repair permissions a few days ago but I doubt that could break this. It persists after a reboot. I can't get it to happen on command, it just randomly occurs. Creating a New Folder always works OK.
My "Trash" is not working. when i delete any file it doesn't appear in TRASH. Empty Trash option goes disappear. How can i recover my TRASH ?

My 24" iMac (2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OSX 10.6.1) crashed during a normal shutdown sequence and had to be closed down by holding in the power button. This resulted in three zero kB alias files with random names such as "." in the trash.
I cannot empty these files from the trash by any normal means and the trash icon permanently shows full. The files can be selected but cannot be dragged to the desktop or renamed. Other files put in the trash can be deleted normally.
I used my hotmail email address as my Apple ID. But I am in the process of getting rid of this address as it receives too much mucky spam.Â
I have therefore changed my Apple ID to a new hotmail email address. I did not have any problems for a wk or so, but now when I click on the Mail icon, nothing happens. It is dead. Due to the time lapse, I don't even know if the two are related. Â
I have read that once you use an Apple ID, you can't use the new one for certain things. This is daft. Do I have to revert to my spammy old email address? But why after a wk is Mail acting dead? I have tried to change my Apple ID to my new one for my iCloud email address, which I now want to use for everyday use, but I can't see how I do it.Â
This problem only relates to my MacBook Pro. I can send and receive emails on my iPhone; and I have not even tried to change anything on it.Â
When I get into managing my Apple ID, Apple want to send me emails, but Mail isn't working. Now really fed up. Hackers must be really good, cos I can't get into my own emails!Â

Despite having several files in the trash, its icon never changes (always shows an empty trash) and the "Empty Trash" option is dimmed (that is, cannot be used). OnyX ws the only solution but it's temporary. What's the fix I should apply to Mac OS X? Also, why is it that every time I want to move a file to trash I must enter my password? It's annoying to say the least. Please help me as I don't want to go through the royal pains of installing everything again, Windows-style. I think Mac OS X should be better than that.

I know it's kind of silly, but is it possible to use Apple Mail's icon and sort of drag'n'drop it to use it on Entourage? I prefer Entourage as my email app, but find Apple Mail's ICON nicer, so would it be possible for my Entourage to use Apple Mail's icon in the dock?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I click and drag a file or folder to the trash icon, the file is deleted, however, the icon does not display any trash and when right clicking, the "Empty Trash" option is grayed out.
The trash folder does exists and all deleted files appear when the following command is entered into Terminal.
How do I setup Mail so that when I delete a message it goes in Gmail's Trash instead of ALL Mail folder?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSome time ago I started using Pathfinder and after some time my HDD icon disappeared. I didn't make much out of it then, but now I'm tired of Pathfinder and I want everything back to normal.
My HDD icon, CD's and external volumes that I connect doesn't show. Not screenshots either, or other types of files.
As you can see there is nothing in the upper right corner.
What I've tried:
A Apple-guide where I install Xcode--->Run some sudo command in Terminal--->Reboot, but it didn't work.
Tried to find my HDD in Finder and drag it onto the desktop, but no success.
Opened Pathfinder again and went to "/volumes" and found out that the volumes folder was hidden. I "unhid" it, reboot, but still the same.
since I upgrade my iMac to Leopard my Mac HD icon is missing....
how do I get it back please?
What does it mean when an icon "goes missing from the desktop" for a file. The name of the file is still there, but the icon itself has gone "invisible."
I am including a screen shot. A short while ago you would have been able to see a folder icon above the name. Now you only see the desktop background.
I am a total noob. Somehow, my disk drive icon has gone missing. How do I go about getting it back on my desktop? I looked in the trash and its not there. I've been searching, but obviously using the wrong search terms. I'm sure this question must have been asked before, so if someone could link me to another thread,
View 2 Replies View Relatedonly recently i lost the possibility to play my mp3s neatly by clicking little play icon inside the file icon. i know this depends on the size of icons, but no matter how big my icons are the play button doesn't show.
does anybody know where on earth is this option?
I am helping a friend out with her mac. She by accidentally removed her desktop icon under devices and needs to get it back. The best way for me to elaborate is to explain, you know when you are in a program...and you want to open a document on your desktop, so you use that programs open function and you look on the left for your desktop icon which falls under Devices at the top left...well that desktop icon is missing.
I tried searching for devices folder on the mac but was unable to find it, I was just going to drag a desktop shortcut into this folder...
I'm new to the whole mac thing and got my first mac (an iMac) just 2 days ago. A whole new learning experience.
I've downloaded and am running uTorrent. uTorrent is showing in the dock, with the text and the small "light" underneath it to show the app is running. However there is no icon, just space. Also in the applications folder, there seems to be a standard icon ("There's no icon, so we'll use this standard icon for the application").
I've attached a screenshot of how it looks in the dock.
I know the uTorrent app has an icon, it was showed right when I downloaded the app and I haven't changed anything, but now it's gone. How do I get it back?
I just did a fresh install of OSX 10.6, and my HDD icon is missing from the Desktop. Only my External HDD and OSX Install DVD are showing up. How do I get my HDD icon back?
