This is my first post on the forums, although I'm planning on looking around in here once in a while, to see what people are posting.
For starters, I just wanted to tell you about this little problem I've been having with my MacBook 1,83GHz.
Sitting at my desk at work one morning, peacefully drinking my coffee, I suddenly received a rather discomforting error-message from my shiny new (about 1 month old) MacBook;
"A USB devise is currently drawing too much power and the port will be deactivated.".
I have just found that the last USB port on my iMac isn't working, it has power as I can charge my iPhone off it, but it has no data as it dosn't see any device plugged in.

I have a G5 DP 2.0 and have been using it's built in ethernet port connected straight to my BT home hub (adsl/router) for years. Any way I add into the mix a netgear 1000Base layer 2 switch and the G5's ethernet doesn't work, reconnect straight to the router and all is fine. Now tested with new cables and tested on every port on the switch. By the way the port light on the switch don't light up when G5 attached. Now have tried the switch with a g4 and all is fine on every port and supprisingly I've stuck a PCI card in the G5 and that works as well. Just can't work out why the built in won't work through the switch but will direct.

I was wondering if the since the MBA's USB port has extra power running through it, if it is able to power a USB drive without a AC adapter.

I'm one of the $200 suckers who bought an iPhone. For my $100 "rebate" I bought the new USB AppleKeyboard. I'm typing on it now. But when I first plugged it into the USB port, I got an error message like this: "The USB port is drawing too much power and it will be disabled." This is the same port the computer's original keyboard was plugged into and it worked fine. Now it's dead. The port is one of two USB ports on the back of my (original) Cinema Display. It's still dead. The AppleKeyboard is plugged into the second USB port now, and it works fine. But I thought I'd alert someone at Apple that this happened. Further, I'd like my USB port back but cannot find anywhere in the help files how to re-enable it. Unless it's fried, of course. But then again, how could the keyboard fry the port?

The firewire port on the front of my machine is bad. I can't transfer any kind of data using it. The port on the back as well as all USB ports work fine. Would this need a complete motherboard replacement? Would it even be worth doing? Could I build a dual processing machine or buy one cheaper?

I get this strange message every so often, sometimes more often than other times. It says:
USB port drawing too much power. The device that is plugged into it will be deactivated.
There are only two things plugged into the USB-The keyboard and mouse. When I get this message, the mouse freezes. If I jiggle the mouse cable where it is plugged into the USB, it comes back and everything is fine until this message comes up again.
256GB SSD-option?- 2.3Ghz (or whaterever it is these days) CPU?- 4GB RAM?- SD-card slot?- Power outlet and port hatch on the _same_ side?I think the last one is especially important on a machine that talks style just as much as essence. It is stupid to hook it up to an external monitor and having cables on both sides. Unclean. The SD-card slot is nice, because it is so much faster than a USB-solution (that be cable, or even the cheap Express-cards found on MBP 17").

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen using the mini display port, do you need to power down the machine to plug it in and un plug it? I assume unplugging it on the fly doesn't mess things up oer the long term. Sorry kind f use to doing things on a windows where sometimes you have shut down the machine to do things.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a PCI card made by SIIG: CyberSerial PCI 16550 RS232 Serial I/O Card. After I got it I noticed the system requirements only list Windows. For the **** of it I installed it in my Power Mac. The system seems to recognize it in "About This Mac..." as a "Serial Controller". There appear to be serial ports assigned to it: /dev/cu.pci-serial3a.When I try to run a serial terminal program over this port (connected to some known working hardware) I get gibberish. I've checked out the cable and remote hardware on another machine and it works fine.

Why can't I hear my music keyboard when it is connected thru the Analog Audio line-in port? Looking at the System Pref. - Sound menu - in-put - Line in Built-in Audio, I can see activity on the input levels when I press the Kawai piano keyboard but no sound is heard. All other sound systems- I-tunes etc are operating properly.

I'm considering to get an additional battery for my MBP (Alu Unibody)
Wondering is there a cable/connector for connecting the battery directly to the MagSafe power port?
Only manage to find "FastMacs TruePower U-Charge", which seems rather useful but it's not available for Unibody MBP YET
As the title says, I need a new monitor for my old G5 as the old monitor for it went bust. Apple does not make the old displays that came with the unit anymore and the only available monitor is the new LED ones ? but they all come with mini display ports

What does that mean? In disk utility it says I need to repair it. However after I click "Verify Disk" and it spits out their information, it doesnt let me repair the disk still. So, how do i repair the Volume? What is the volume? This isnt a hardware failure is it?

So please let me know whether there are any addon or scripts available to do that.
In MS Word on my desktop, I seem to have lost the 'Header and Footer' option under 'View'. I checked my friends Word on his laptop, and it did in fact have it. Both comps have MS Word 2008, and my desktop is a quad core i7. (Also, I have searched the Help menu, and the only thing that comes up is the AutoText version of Header/Footer which is not quite the same - leading me to think that it's actually missing...and yes everything is up to date)
As a student I use this function almost daily and it's extremely frustrating not having it. If you have any tips or ideas please let me know,
When I click on "view" header/footer, no toolbar appears. Any ideas?

I've been really miffed by Mac Mail's behaviour for adding attachments. When I add seemingly any sort of file into an email message, it sticks an icon of it exactly where my cursor is. This is pretty ridiculous - it messes up my formatting (line spaces etc) and looks silly in the middle of my message.
Is there any way to simply display the attachment icons only in the header of the message? I think Mail Attachments Iconizer is meant to do this, but I'm hoping there's a way within Mail to do this. To clarify I'm not talking about expanding images inline, but the fact that there's an icon of the attachments in the body of my message.
Im making a newspaper as a book report and I can't get rid of the header and footer.
