MacBook - Can The Charger Port Be Replaced
Apr 22, 2012The last two weeks we have noticed that the charger port is very sensitive, I know our battery needs to be replaced, now we think the port where you plug in the charger needs to be replaced as well. You have to put a lot of pressure on the charger when its plugged in to hold a charge. if not that battery dies within seconds even if it says its at 100%. we have a early 2008 model for the macbook. any idea what we can do? we have elastics holding the charger in place and sometimes thats not even working. (using elastics to push the charger into the port )

For starters, I just wanted to tell you about this little problem I've been having with my MacBook 1,83GHz.
Sitting at my desk at work one morning, peacefully drinking my coffee, I suddenly received a rather discomforting error-message from my shiny new (about 1 month old) MacBook;
"A USB devise is currently drawing too much power and the port will be deactivated.".

It is stupid to hook it up to an external monitor and having cables on both sides. Unclean.The SD-card slot is nice, because it is so much faster than a USB-solution (that be cable, or even the cheap Express-cards found on MBP 17").

Power Mac G5 :: Ethernet Port Connected To BT Home Hub?
Nov 29, 2007I have a G5 DP 2.0 and have been using it's built in ethernet port connected straight to my BT home hub (adsl/router) for years. Any way I add into the mix a netgear 1000Base layer 2 switch and the G5's ethernet doesn't work, reconnect straight to the router and all is fine. Now tested with new cables and tested on every port on the switch. By the way the port light on the switch don't light up when G5 attached. Now have tried the switch with a g4 and all is fine on every port and supprisingly I've stuck a PCI card in the G5 and that works as well. Just can't work out why the built in won't work through the switch but will direct.

Power Mac G5 :: USB Port Disappeared When Adding Apple Keyboard
Oct 9, 2007I'm one of the $200 suckers who bought an iPhone. For my $100 "rebate" I bought the new USB AppleKeyboard. I'm typing on it now. But when I first plugged it into the USB port, I got an error message like this: "The USB port is drawing too much power and it will be disabled." This is the same port the computer's original keyboard was plugged into and it worked fine. Now it's dead. The port is one of two USB ports on the back of my (original) Cinema Display. It's still dead. The AppleKeyboard is plugged into the second USB port now, and it works fine. But I thought I'd alert someone at Apple that this happened. Further, I'd like my USB port back but cannot find anywhere in the help files how to re-enable it. Unless it's fried, of course. But then again, how could the keyboard fry the port?

Dec 26, 2007The firewire port on the front of my machine is bad. I can't transfer any kind of data using it. The port on the back as well as all USB ports work fine. Would this need a complete motherboard replacement? Would it even be worth doing? Could I build a dual processing machine or buy one cheaper?

Sep 13, 2006I get this strange message every so often, sometimes more often than other times. It says:
USB port drawing too much power. The device that is plugged into it will be deactivated.
There are only two things plugged into the USB-The keyboard and mouse. When I get this message, the mouse freezes. If I jiggle the mouse cable where it is plugged into the USB, it comes back and everything is fine until this message comes up again.

Nov 11, 2007I recently purchased a PCI card made by SIIG: CyberSerial PCI 16550 RS232 Serial I/O Card. After I got it I noticed the system requirements only list Windows.For the **** of it I installed it in my Power Mac. The system seems to recognize it in "About This Mac..." as a "Serial Controller". There appear to be serial ports assigned to it: /dev/cu.pci-serial3a.When I try to run a serial terminal program over this port (connected to some known working hardware) I get gibberish. I've checked out the cable and remote hardware on another machine and it works fine.

May 9, 2012Why can't I hear my music keyboard when it is connected thru the Analog Audio line-in port? Looking at the System Pref. - Sound menu - in-put - Line in Built-in Audio, I can see activity on the input levels when I press the Kawai piano keyboard but no sound is heard. All other sound systems- I-tunes etc are operating properly.

May 1, 2012I have a macbook pro 13 inch purchased in 2009. My HDD died so I took it to an Apple dealer and they replaced it and upgraded me to 10.6.8, when I took it home I found that some of the applications I had received for free were now missing, and after a few days I was having the same problems with my HDD (folder with ? mark appearing) so I took it back. They told me that I had a virus? They then gave me the apps that had been missing and upgraded me again to 10.7.3 however it is still freezing regardless of whether I am on the internet so its not my connection. I also went to open itunes and it told me it could not find a folder and to choose a location. When I chose Music - itunes - it states I can't and to choose another folder.

Dec 27, 2009I just got my MacBook pro returned 4 days ago after the hard drive was replaced because the brightness was on minimum and had to be reboot 15 times so it could be changed. I asked apple to replace my battery because it had 1 minute battery life and it had 47 cycles but they didn't. My mac didn't have enough power to start speakers so I rebooted but my mac went into sleep mode and wouldn't come out. I had to force shut down. I tried turning it on but it wouldn't turn on, I tried taking out battery etc and pressed power button 5 secs but nothing changed.
I live 100 miles away from apple repair. I wrote this on my iPod touch. I took it to apple repair and it turned on. I had been using a 65 watt charging cable for a MacBook, I need a 85 watt charging cable. It was 100 miles away and has been posted to me today. apple told me that a MacBook pro requires 80 watt charging cable, and 65 watt can be bad for the mac and will only work if the battery isn't dead. my battery was dead when I tried to turn it on.
