I can't install Mac OS 9, because the page "Select a disk to install" is empty, so I can't choose a disk. The disk is OK and the Mac OS installer too. I am trying to install it because this is the last version that a Power Mac G3 supports.

I want to get a battery backup for my PowerMac G5 dual 1.8ghz PPC, but the numbers confuse me. the UPS selector tool on APC's website suggests I can get away with one that runs at 800VA.i dont need it to last long, I'm really just looking for something that will protect from surges, condition the power, and give me enough time to shut down in case of a power outage. I wouldnt need more than a few minutes, and I dont expect more than a few minutes power supply.

I went into the "System Preferences" and "Startup Disk" and the only thing I see is "network startup". What does this mean?It takes ages to boot into OSX unless I start the computer and manually pick a partition and I'm assuming it's because I don't have a startup disk selected yet. View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is retarted. According to Apple when I got my new Macbook Pro, I shouldnt have any problem installing Windows that unfor tunately I need to run AutoCAD. I choose Bootcamp to use all the resources of my MAC. It didnt let me install it but did it with Fusion. How retarded is that. OEM disk SP2.Then I got to Apple store and explain the problem. Dude over there says it should work. Exchange my Macbook for a brand new one and lets try again.Now I cant even load the same disk with Fusion. I go back to the store to buy a case and ask the question again. Now the answer is...Bootcamp wont accept an OEM Windows disk unless you get a copy which was never use.

Having a major issue: similar symptoms to others in the forum - with the fan and the computer not getting past the grey apple screen, I booted from the install disk and got to disk utility, at first all options were greyed out and I could not do anything, tried again a few times and finally got to the point where I could run the verify utility, never given the option to repair. When running the utility it failed and said I needed to repair by booting from the install disk and running the disk utility? Going around in circle here - any advice? I am currently running the Apple Hardware test to see if that shows anything...it has been a workhorse and I've NEVER had any issues with it.

I bought the family pack for Leopard. I installed Leopard on my G4 laptop fine.When I tried tried to install on my G5 I got a fail to install due to a source problem (?)In any event I restarted from the Tiger hard drive and it's totally screwed up my computer. It tries to start and I get initial Apple logo for about 2 seconds then it locks up and I get a bunch of computer code.

If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? G5 keeps hanging at install and also at disk utility. I've swapped both the osX install dvd disk and the entire dvd drive, but still hangs at os load or utility.

I tried putting the disc in and clicking the restart button on the screen that says "Welcome to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger", but when I click it it just restarts my computer and does nothing. I then tried the alternate install it did the same thing it did nothing but restarted my eMac. I then tried restarting my computer while holding c key nothing once again. Then I tried holding down apple, option, f , and o keys and then typed in cd boot and also tried cdrom boot nether of them worked so i restarted and tried dvd boot/dvdrom boot nothing worked on all the occasion i got a grey screen with a circle with a line through it. What do I need to do to get these install discs to work?

When I installed the OS, I chose not to install iPhoto and iMovie because I didn't think I'd need them on this machine. I had my original Install Disk which I forgot was Tiger, Having used one of my brothers company licenses to upgrade to Leopard but that disk is now with him in another country. So now I can not restore from my Time Machine backup. I have a Leopard Install disk for a Macbook Pro 13" which I also own. Is it possible to use this disk to re-install Leopard on my 15"?

I created a Boot Camp Partition (an entire drive, actually) and installed XP. The install went off without a hitch ... Except, having rebooted to Mac OS X (10.6.1) there is no way to boot Windows again. Going to Preferences->Boot Disk shows no Book Camp bootable drive.

mac g5 dual-core 1.8 ghz, 3.6gbram, newly installed ide dvdrom & burner (for pc, actually, works well on mac).sata 160gb hdd. i just got this mac g5 from a a friend, very cheap, its a old mac, but its ok. there is no osx or other operating system installed, the pmu has been resettet, and a new battery for bios has been inserted correctly. now that i cant get or have any leopard osx 10.5.8, i just need any linux os to install, in order to see if the mac is ok.later on, i will buy a second hand legal osx leopard 10.5.8 any tools, i can download, to check for hard disk is present, emery checking at start up / boot up ?, the dvdrom jumper has been set to master. the sata hdd has no jumper. i did now got hands on a linux ubuntu 10.4 lts sio, and burned it with windows 7 and my pc burner (i really don't know if this is the right way to do it, can pc burn the iso correctly ?, even if i can see all the folders and files on the cd ?, which i can!). i tried it, the mac dvdrom works, its reading the cd (pressing the option on power up/ startup).in the startup bios,
i can see linux as a thumbnail picture, which i can select, and the cd loads all necessary drivers to memory etc.then the boot shell screen appears, explaining me to press return key, or choose other option. i did choose pressing the return key. mac is reading the cd, until a few seconds later a black screen appears and nothing happens!.i also tried live install.it could be a graphics driver problem ? ( the graphics card is, i think, a geforce 5500 fx ultra 128mb agp). the mac did work perfect before i got it, with osx and apps, every thing was ok, but my friend gave me this with a clean install, no osx. from this, experience i can see, that the mac cpu, dvdrom, motherboard and, memory / graphics card is working perfect.i am in doubt about the hardddisk, shouldn't the led on the front case blink, meaning it reading from the hard-disk ?.later on i will try the hdd and dvdrom to try different jumper position, and try another linux distro, eventually i should be able get this mac up and running! otherwise i have to get another old mac g5, which i have to pay alot, properly?. hope not. apple wants 100£ for a leopard dvd. they must be kidding!. At this time, both my primary and my secondary drives are accessible and visible.However, when I boot up the computer using either the Tiger or Leopard DVDs and then run Disk Utility, it only recognizes my secondary hard drive and not my main hard drive.

It starts but then displays a screen that tells in four languages to restart my machine. When I restart I just get the same message.This all started when I switched from booting in OS 9 to OSX. Both had worked in the past. Now I cannot return to OS 9. Is there a short cut of keys to press to bring up the start up disk control panel during start up to try switching back to OS 9?

I tryed to install windows xp on my mac and my disk was too scratched so the install failed. So i held down the power button on my mac until it turned off. Big mistake. Now whenever it boot up, it says press any button to boot from cd. I tryed installing rEFit, it installs but doesn'ty boot into the boot loader.
