OS X :: How To Install The New Hdd And Load Up The Install Disk

Feb 16, 2010

When I get my Mac Mini next week-I intend to replace the HardDrive, do I have to back up what's on the HDD? Remember this Mac is Brand New-And comes with the Install Disc.

Or can I just open the box, install the new harddrive and load up the install disk?

Or am I just missing something easier?

OS X :: How To Install Apps From Install Disk Without Starting From Scratch?

Searched the archives but no luck so far. My old PB G4 is running 10.4.11. When I installed the OS, I chose not to install iPhoto and iMovie because I didn't think I'd need them on this machine. I'd now like to add them, but am not sure how to do it without wiping the hard drive and starting completely from the beginning. There's got to be an easier way...right?

I have recently done a Time machine back up of my MB Pro 15" then wiped my hard drive trying to clean it up so I could install Windows 7 with Boot Camp. So now I can not restore from my Time Machine backup. I have a Leopard Install disk for a Macbook Pro 13" which I also own. Is it possible to use this disk to re-install Leopard on my 15"?

MacBook Pro :: Install Disc Won't Load?

Mar 30, 2012

I'm trying to re-install the OS on a MacBook Pro that i'm selling so as to erase all my data from it, however the Install Disc will not start up to run the Installer. I load it, press install, it says it has to Restart, i click ok and it then begins to restart but then just stops at a white screen. The disc drive goes quiet as well. I've tried just starting and holding C down as well. Same result.

Just wondering if anyone knows a way around this? Or is it probably a dodgy disc? It seems to be fine until it tries to start up from the disc.

OS X :: Can't Boot Off The Install Disk?

Oct 3, 2010

So I restarted, hit option until "Macintosh HD" showed up. Then I hit "c" and "Mac OS X Install Disc" showed up. So far so good.

I then selected the CD, and hit enter. It started to boot up and my cd drive started to make whirring noises, so I knew it was all good. And then, it went into the grey screen with the Apple logo in the middle. However, with it taking a long time, I went for my usual jog (it was my jogging time anyways). But when I came back (over an hour later) it was still on the grey screen with the apple logo.

OS X :: Not Reading The Leopard Install Disk?

Jan 10, 2008

My husband and I bought the family edition of Leopard last night, along with iLife08. I installed iLife while he installed Leopard. No problems on either Mac.

However, when I went to install Leopard, once I double clicked to start the install, it seems like my Mac won't "read" the disk. I get the spinning rainbow and there's lots of chugging sounds happening, but after almost an hour (yeah, I'm patient), it was pretty apparent that nothing was actually happening.

I'm really perplexed...it's not a disk problem, as it installed fine on my husband's Macbook...and it's not a drive issue as iLife installed just fine a few minutes before trying Leopard.

Mac Pro :: Want To Install 2x Velociraptors For Boot Disk?

Jun 28, 2008

Ok, my WD Raptor is both getting too small, and too slow (long in the teeth) so I sunk down for 2xVelociraptors to use for my boot in RAID 0..

I know how to add drives and do RAID in terms of adding drives for storage, but how can I migrate my OS X, Applications, and Preferences to a new boot drive, much less a RAID 0?

do I need to first install the disks into my case and format them for RAID 0, then install OS X as a boot disk on them, the lastly copy over my Applications folder, Library and Users folder?

OS X :: Reset Mac Password Without Install Disk

I was speaking with a friend and he asked me about resetting his mac without the install disk and I told him well you can despite what other people tell you the only major downside is that you'll lose all keychain passwords, but if you've really forgotten your password, it's better than nothing. So I decided I would write a post telling you the simple way to reset your password without the install disk. Trust me this does work! It may take you a few times until you get it right. [URL]

OS X :: Could Not Restore Applications From Install Disk

Aug 5, 2009

Through Erase and Install and some other processes I lost a couple of applications, one of them garageband. I have a Mac OS X Leopard, but I just recently upgraded from my original Panther. So I put in the first Panther disk and chose the "Install Applications and Classic Support." It installed fine, but then when it came time to actually restore the applications I got a message that said "Could not set up necessary connection with helper tool. Make sure the application bundle is intact and try again," and I had to quit the installation. I tried again an the same thing happened.

What does this mean? what's an application bundle and how do I make sure it's intact? A lot of stuff got moved around lately and perhaps the applications folder isn't where it should be, could this be a problem?
