I'm trying to fix my mother-in-law PowerMac G4. She doesn't remember the admin password and I've been trying to reboot from the install cd. However, after pushing the "c" button. Nothing happens and it boots normally.

I can't install Mac OS 9, because the page "Select a disk to install" is empty, so I can't choose a disk. The disk is OK and the Mac OS installer too. I am trying to install it because this is the last version that a Power Mac G3 supports.

I have an 8 month old MB, 2.4 Ghz, 4GB Ram, 160 GB HD, running 10.5.5. I normally do the updated from Apple when the updates come out.
Anyway, I was trying to reformat/erase an external hd; I didn't see the Disk Utility icon on my Dock. I had used Disk Utility before (last time was maybe a month or two ago).
Go into applications, see something called disk utility, but it has a different logo (a piece of paper with a pencil, brush and ruler in the shape of an A). I click on it, it jumps once and does nothing. I figure it needs to be reinstalled, but the DVD that came with the computer says I can't install OS X on this computer.
I have an old power mac and want to get it online if possible .Does anyone know if ots possible to install an airport card into it and get online that way ?

Having a major issue: similar symptoms to others in the forum - with the fan and the computer not getting past the grey apple screen, I booted from the install disk and got to disk utility, at first all options were greyed out and I could not do anything, tried again a few times and finally got to the point where I could run the verify utility, never given the option to repair. When running the utility it failed and said I needed to repair by booting from the install disk and running the disk utility? Going around in circle here - any advice? I am currently running the Apple Hardware test to see if that shows anything...it has been a workhorse and I've NEVER had any issues with it.

I bought the family pack for Leopard. I installed Leopard on my G4 laptop fine.When I tried tried to install on my G5 I got a fail to install due to a source problem (?)In any event I restarted from the Tiger hard drive and it's totally screwed up my computer. It tries to start and I get initial Apple logo for about 2 seconds then it locks up and I get a bunch of computer code.

Recently I noticed that if I run Check Disk in Disk Utility, all the process works correctly but at the end it doesn't tell me that everything is correct (in green).
On the contrary, if I run it in recovery mode, (reboot w cmd-r), it works correctly to the end with the correct green result at the end.
I searched for a while trying to find the answer but did not find it. I just installed Vista Business via Bootcamp. I am not able to access the internet or anything. If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Or am I just missing something easier?

G5 keeps hanging at install and also at disk utility. I've swapped both the osX install dvd disk and the entire dvd drive, but still hangs at os load or utility.

I tried putting the disc in and clicking the restart button on the screen that says "Welcome to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger", but when I click it it just restarts my computer and does nothing. I then tried the alternate install it did the same thing it did nothing but restarted my eMac. I then tried restarting my computer while holding c key nothing once again. Then I tried holding down apple, option, f , and o keys and then typed in cd boot and also tried cdrom boot nether of them worked so i restarted and tried dvd boot/dvdrom boot nothing worked on all the occasion i got a grey screen with a circle with a line through it. What do I need to do to get these install discs to work?

When I installed the OS, I chose not to install iPhoto and iMovie because I didn't think I'd need them on this machine. I'd now like to add them, but am not sure how to do it without wiping the hard drive and starting completely from the beginning. There's got to be an easier way...right?

I had my original Install Disk which I forgot was Tiger, Having used one of my brothers company licenses to upgrade to Leopard but that disk is now with him in another country. So now I can not restore from my Time Machine backup. I have a Leopard Install disk for a Macbook Pro 13" which I also own. Is it possible to use this disk to re-install Leopard on my 15"?

i've recently ask in the forum for expanding my G5 and G4, because the DVD-RW stop working on both. I've bought a Pioneer DVR-112 and install it on the G4 (under panther). Startup the mac and it was there on the system profiler, but when i'd tryed to open the tray, it couldn't go out because it was getting jammed bye the mac tower (some plastic thinggis around the drive hole), so i've notice that the previous DVD-RW didn't had the front part on the drive that says DVD-RW and all the stuff. So, shutdown the mac and removed the drive to see what it can be done. Installed again and now the mac don't recognize the drive.

I have an iMac 2.4Ghz 24" about 18 months old. After a visitor's mains powered hard drive (which was later shown to be already faulty!) was connected I lost the power to the USB bus inside the iMac. I can still use devices that need power with an USB port expander but this is far from ideal. USB data is working fine as is the firewire port. Simply the power to the USB. I have reset the PRAM but not yet reset the Power Management Unit. I assume there is no physical fuse for the USB power internally as I have not seen a reference to one anywhere. Should I reset the PMU?
Are the USB and their power integral to the motherboard? On start up I get the error message: "USB Over Current Notice. A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The hub it is attached to will be deactivated." I get this error message even when nothing not even keyboard is plugged in (so its not that faulty keyboard error). There really is no power at the USB ports - but data is working
I have a power Mac g4 which is about 11 years old which is having issues.Replacing the battery was a big solution, but since I did this yesterday, I am getting Kernel screens and monitor blackouts, jumpy cursors and the delete key not working.I have just reinstalled the OS and updated the software, but the delete key still isn't working. The mouse seems normal now, and so far the monitor will come back when it is asleep, instead of going black and staying that way.But the delete key still isn't deleting.

I enabled power nap both when the laptop is connected to power and on battery, but every morning when I look in iTunes, my podcasts have not been updated since last time i closed the lid.
I also tried to start downloading a podcast and close the lid, and when I open it again, the podcast has not progressed in the downloading.

i can see linux as a thumbnail picture, which i can select, and the cd loads all necessary drivers to memory etc.then the boot shell screen appears, explaining me to press return key, or choose other option. i did choose pressing the return key. mac is reading the cd, until a few seconds later a black screen appears and nothing happens!.i also tried live install.it could be a graphics driver problem ? ( the graphics card is, i think, a geforce 5500 fx ultra 128mb agp). the mac did work perfect before i got it, with osx and apps, every thing was ok, but my friend gave me this with a clean install, no osx. from this, experience i can see, that the mac cpu, dvdrom, motherboard and, memory / graphics card is working perfect.i am in doubt about the hardddisk, shouldn't the led on the front case blink, meaning it reading from the hard-disk ?.later on i will try the hdd and dvdrom to try different jumper position, and try another linux distro, eventually i should be able get this mac up and running! otherwise i have to get another old mac g5, which i have to pay alot, properly?. hope not. apple wants 100£ for a leopard dvd. they must be kidding!. I have a G4 PowerMac with two 80 GB hard drives. When I boot up the computer, it boots up from the primary drive and runs fine. At this time, both my primary and my secondary drives are accessible and visible.However, when I boot up the computer using either the Tiger or Leopard DVDs and then run Disk Utility, it only recognizes my secondary hard drive and not my main hard drive.

It starts but then displays a screen that tells in four languages to restart my machine. When I restart I just get the same message.This all started when I switched from booting in OS 9 to OSX. Both had worked in the past. Now I cannot return to OS 9. Is there a short cut of keys to press to bring up the start up disk control panel during start up to try switching back to OS 9?

I tryed to install windows xp on my mac and my disk was too scratched so the install failed. So i held down the power button on my mac until it turned off. Big mistake. Now whenever it boot up, it says press any button to boot from cd. I tryed installing rEFit, it installs but doesn'ty boot into the boot loader.

I just get the small black screen in the Skypes window. Is ther another piece of software I need other than Macam for Skypes connection or.I did get a message on screen that Skypes had connected to my camera.
