Power Mac :: G5 Crashes Every Time When Starting From DVD
Apr 12, 2012
My G5 Power Mac Dual 2.0 run well. But I want to start the system from the dvd. Every time I try it, the mac crashed by starting up. On the screen you read. please start again.... If the Systems runs from Hard disc it runs perfect. And you insert the DVD, there is no problem. I tried two different System DVDs 10.4 and one 10.3. All run normal, but when I boot from it them the Mac crash every time. The same when I boot with "alt" and change to dvd start.

I try to open an exported Keynote '08 document.
Here's what happens: I create a Keynote '08 document and export it as Power Point. If I either double-click or try to open from within PPT '08, I get a crash stating that PPT has encountered an error and needs to quit. This happens EVERY time with EVERY single exported presentation. Oddly, it never happened in PPT '04.
Has anyone else had this issue?

My mid 2010 MBP 15" crashes while starting up. At first, it crashed while I was using it. Then when trying to start it again, it crashed when the log in screen showed up. Then when I restarted it a couple of more times, I got a screen with a loading bar, like an update was going on. When the loading bar is full, it crashes, before the log in screen shows up. I have OS X Mavericks, I think. Â

I started to have problems with a used PowerMac G5 that I bought on December last year. The computer came with dual G5 at 2.0GHz, 8GB and 160GB Sata hard drive. The computer was running Leopard 10.5.8.
Once in my home I erase completely the hard drive and installed Leopard from scratch and ran software updates. At this point the computer was functioning good, sometimes crashes when I tryed to import images on iPhoto or Aperture, but appart from this nothing more. Few weeks ago I installed a new hard drive, the disk it's ok and doesn't give problems. The problems started two weeks ago, when computer crashes constantly and at any time with any reason, kernel crashes reports sometimes reports for Safari, other times for iTunes, others for uTorren, mdworker and mostly by Unknow application. I must to restart the computer by force shutdown, that only put thing worse. I was looking for documentation about solve my problem, but there is not so much responses.

My MacBook Pro locks up and shows the message "Please reboot your computer by holding down the power button" every time that Time Machine tries to run a backup. I turned off Time Machine and no more crashes... Sorta makes my 500 Gig Time Capsule useless.

Updated to OSX Lion. Now everytime I'm not connecting it to the power adapter, sooner or later the screen flickers and it crashes or freezes straight away. It's usually caused when I'm using the browser to open a flash site, which is probably heavy on graphic processing. Or watching a video on quicktime or youtube, even when it's not using a flash player on youtube. Or working on a graphic heavy processing apps like Photoshop. It's updated with latest software updates.

I recently had to restore my entire system from an old backup on my time capsule. Now it has two copies of my entire system however, since it thinks I have a new computer and did a full backup again. Is there some way to reset it and do a full backup from this point on, and completely delete what I had before today?

I've been fighting bad sleep crashes for over a year. Sometimes it would freeze when it started sleep, sometimes when trying to wake from a sleep. I've spent countless hours researching the problem, reading everything on the boards. I tried resetting the PMU, turning off Bluetooth, removing all USB, and all of the other suggestions. Nothing alleviated the problem. Last week I replaced the lithium battery on the mother board because it wasn't keeping the correct time. So far it is sleeping and waking perfectly for the first time in ages. No more freezes or jet engine fans. I have my fingers crossed. Power Mac G5 dual 2 GHz, purchased June, 2003

My IMac crashes sometimes very suddenly, like in a power failure. It doesn't force quit or shut down, it just goes like somebody pulled the plug. It's usually possible to start it up again after 30minutes or an hour. The plug and lead seem to be fine. I tested it on another mac. The obvious suspicion would be overheating, but how can that be caused so suddenly (and how can I fix it)? It's an IMac Intel core duo, 20", 2 ghz, 2gb ram from 2006. I'm running Mac OS X (10.4.11) 2006.

I have had difficulty in attaching my HP Photosmart C5580 printer to my new MacBookPro (OSX 10.6) through my Netgear WGPS606 print server. After much searching I found previous posts here which advised me to add the Gutenprint driver 5.2.6 which I did. That finally DID successfully attach the printer through the server...
However, there is a lag of many seconds (sometimes minutes) between the SEND command and the starting of the printer. Is this the new normal that I need to expect or is there a fix?

I have a 15-inch MBP (2011) 2.3 GHz, Core i7 with 8 GB of memory and a Vertex 3 MAX IOPS SSD. I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4.As you can imagine, this is one quick system. When I first installed Lion (I did a clean install on a brand new SSD when Lion came out), my shutdown time was literally under half a second. Then a few days later, as I installed my usual apps, I noticed that the shutdown time suddenly went to 20 seconds with the usual grey screen and spinning wheel. I figured that one of my programs must be causing this, but could never figure out which. After living with this for months, I decided today to use Activity Monitor to try to quit some processes to see if my shutdown time would go down. After a few tries, I noticed that just starting and quitting Activity Monitor brings my shutdown time back to half a second..
I repeated this over a dozen times. I start my system and immediately shut it down: it takes 20 seconds to shutdown. Then I start it, run Activity Monitor and then immediately quit it, then shutdown: it takes half a second to shutdown.I can obviously live with a 20-second shutdown time. I don't shutdown often anyway and the system is super fast otherwise. But it's still nice to get to the bottom of this.

I bought a new Mac mini and it worked great the first month or two (I didnt use it that much) and had it plugged to an HD TV. Then bought a samsung monitor, and at start everything was great but after I left it about two hours or more without use the speakers started making weird noises and the computer just crashed. After that I start it the before it asks for my password I hear the weird noises again and sometimes it just freezes with a blank page and other time a sign comes up that tells me to reset it pressing the power button for about 5 seconds and then turning it on again. I do that a million times and I never get it to log in crashes every single time.Â
I have used the computer total about ten times and the only thing installed is the photoshop so I dont care if I have to erase everything o whatever. How can I know what the problem is and is there a way to format it. I just changed from PC to Mac so i am not very familiar to what to do now.Â
I replaced the 1gb ram memories to two 4gb dont know if that has something to do with it but I did that when i first bought it and worked great.Â

I just installed Safari 4.1 for Tiger, and it crashes every time I try to open it. I tried removing the input manager software that I had added, but that did not help. Is Smart Crash Reports a normal part of Safari, or should I remove that as well? Is there any way to reinstall Safari 4.0.5? Would deleting Safari from the Applications directory make it possible to reinstall 4.0.5?

Starting yesterday, I cannot load Time & Date (either from System Prefs or from the menu bar). I get the beachball and I have to Force Quit System Prefs.
I tried Repairing Permissions and rebooting but it didn't help.I tried deleting .plist entries (as per a related thread on the Internet) and rebooting and that didn't work either.I tried logging off and logging in with another account and the problem is still there.I hope I can get some help because it's driving me nuts. I travel a lot and need to change my time zone. If you need a crash report from me, please tell me how to get it from Console bc I don't know where to look for it!
P.S. I am using old OSX 10.4.11

So....... for some reason my Mac crashes if I plug in the USB HDD I have been using for Time Machine on my MBP (Late 2008).
There are also two other partitions on HDD, one FAT and one Mac.... not sure which. I have not actually used either of these partitions yet. Only the Time Machine partition. I used the same MBP to make the 3 parts using DU.
If I plug it in I get a grey screen telling me to hold down power to reboot.
If I boot with the HDD attached then it gets so far but hangs before Login screen.
I am happy to format the HDD. Not sure how, as I dont have another mac to see if it works on that.
My work Win PC can read and write the Fat partition, so I don't think the error is with the physical HDD. Is there a way to format the entire 500GB in XP, even though I can only see a 70GB partition ? ? I am happy using DOS command line if needed... can't find any DU type application in XP.

I recently bought a 17'' macbook pro (i7), and I am extremely with it. Unfortunately, after a week or so I got connection problems and I decided to switch from airport to cable. This however did not fix the problem. I blamed the modem, but after endless rebooting, trying another modem, running network diagnostics hundreds of times, and even lowering the mtu I began to think it was my macbook pro that was the problem.
After a lot of searching I found out that when vuze (my torrent client at the time) was on, a ping script I set up was giving timeouts. After shutting vuze down and waiting a few seconds, the timeouts stopped.
I tried reinstalling vuze, didn't work. Then I decided to switch from vuze to microtorrent (also utorrent). When running utorrent and importing a torrent, the ping kept working. However, when I imported a second torrent, it started giving timeouts again. As soon as I stopped the second torrent, the timeouts also stopped.
This is not bandwidth related. The first torrent can download at more than 500 kb/s without any internet trouble. However, when two torrents together only download at 30 kb/s, internet stops working.
I did not have this problem when I bought my mac, does anyone know how this is caused and how I can fix it?
And of course, when you have connection problems, try shutting down your p2p client
