OS X :: Lag In Print Time / Between SEND Command And Starting Of Printer

Nov 23, 2008

I have had difficulty in attaching my HP Photosmart C5580 printer to my new MacBookPro (OSX 10.6) through my Netgear WGPS606 print server. After much searching I found previous posts here which advised me to add the Gutenprint driver 5.2.6 which I did. That finally DID successfully attach the printer through the server...

However, there is a lag of many seconds (sometimes minutes) between the SEND command and the starting of the printer. Is this the new normal that I need to expect or is there a fix?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Unable To Send Printer Command From IMac

May 2, 2012

Using a mid 2007 IMac running lion 10.7.3. Both printers, HP laserjet p1606dn and Epson artisian 700 worked fine until I tried to setup airprint (couldn't figure that out). Now I can't print anything, not even a test page, from either printer. I receive a print error- "Unable to send printer command! Unsupported document-format "application/vnd.cups-command". I can scan from the Epson without a problem. I can run utility tasks, clean print heads, run print head alignment etc. But I can't print.

Hardware :: Epson Photo Printer Does Not Print Via Time Capsule?

Apr 25, 2009

I have MacBook OsX 10.5.6. Had a direct printer connection but recently decided to hook up my Epson R1800 stylus photo printer through TC. I removed the old default printer and added it through System Preferences-> Print and Fax. It is recognized as a Time Capsule Printer, bonjour kind.

But when I press print i get for 2 seconds window saying that page is printing but printer queue is empty and nothing happens. It feels almost as if printer is not hooked up. I can not locate this printer on Epson Utility (separate software) either. Does anyone have or had in the past similar problem?

OS X :: Unable To Print In Linux Print Server / Not Creating Printer

Dec 27, 2010

I'm new to Mac OS X, but have been working with Linux for almost 9 yrs now. I have set up a Linux box with CUPS 1.3.9. I can print from the server, and from other Linux stations to that remote server. However, I can't print from a client MacBook.

I set up CUPS on the client Mac via http://localhost:631 and created a printer associated with the remote queue / printer on Linux (the URL I use on OS X is http://mylinuxserver:631/printers/hpprinter and the driver is RAW).

I have no problems sending a test page from the CUPS web interface on Mac OS X to the Linux server -- the test page gets printed OK. However, I can't see the printer I just defined from other Mac OS X apps, and neither can I see it from the Add Printer Dialog on System Preferences (it's empty).

I tried creating the printer at the Add Printer dialog, but it would neither let me specify an HTTP URL (as far as I know, I had to use the IP icon on the toolbar) nor specify "RAW". So I tried creating a "dummy" printer in the Add Printer dialog, with a basic config, and then changing it from the CUPS web GUI. This didn't work either, since when I went back to the Add Printer dialog, the printer was gone.

Hardware :: Can't Use HP LaserJet Printer Through A TP-Link Print Server To Print

Mar 1, 2010

I'm using a MacBook, Mac OS 10.5.8. I've downloaded the driver for HP LaserJet m1319f MFP and the printer worked fine when I connect it directly to my MacBook (using USB connection). The problem is that printer is supposed to be connected to our office network users through a TP-Link Print Server (TL-PS110U). I've tried to use AppleTalk to connect to that print server but my MacBook only recognized that HP printer as a HP Fax machine and I can't print anything.

Software :: Starting Terminal From Command Line And Passing An Argument

Aug 23, 2008

I have a MacBook Pro running 10.5, and I have a Terminal instance set up that invokes the following command:/usr/bin/emacs -nwI'd like to be able to pass a file name to this instance when I start it up, so that it will open a window with an emacs session that is editing that particular file. In other words, the file name is not hard-coded, but rather, it's passed in when I start the Terminal program. Furthermore, I'd like to be able to start this Terminal session with a specified file name by means of a command-line dialog from within another Terminal session. Can anyone suggest a way to do this? By the way, I'm not looking for a solution that only works with emacs, which I only mentioned here as an example. I'd like to know a general way to pass a specified argument at invocation time to an arbitrary program that's associated with a Terminal session, and I'd like to be able to perform this invocation via the command line from within another Terminal session.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Canon LBP6000 Print Driver - No Printer Appears In The 'add Printer' Section?

Apr 1, 2012

I was having problems printing from my Canon LBP6000.  Print jobs remained held in the queue.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the Mac CAPT Ve r340 driver from Canon's website, no improvement. The printer works fine with my Windows laptop. I found an option to remove all printers from the Print preferences section. I can't remember how I did this, but all printers were removed.  I reinstalled the above driver, but now in the 'print & scan' - 'add printer' section, I have no printer options.  And no idea how to get printer options.

OS X :: All Applications Crash On Print Command?

Aug 11, 2009

Started using a mac through work and bought my first 20" imac 8 months ago. Haven't looked back. However, since the update to 10.5.7 my imac has crashed applications every time I select the print command in any application that can print.
I'm printing to an Epson Acculaser C1100 via USB, which worked perfectly before the 10.5.7 update.

I've searched forums and other sites for a solution but drawn a blank. Here's what I've done so far:Twice reinstalled the 10.5.7 update using the Combo update option, repairing permissions before and after.Removed the Epson folder from the Printers folder in the library and reinstalled the drivers from the original Epson disk, from the OS X disks that came with the mac, and from the latest driver posted on the Epson site. Each time, no effect.Removed all references to Epson from my machine (via a Finder search) and reinstalled the drivers in the three ways listed above.

Each time the result is the same; when I click the print command or the print icon in any application the application spins the coloured wheel for a while then crashes. Some applications (such as Pages) report that the crash may be related to a file called EpsonPagePDE.plugin, which I've found and deleted from the library several times, to no avail.Updated to 10.5.8.The printer works perfectly from my Mac G4 laptop and from a Windows Vista laptop. In just about every other way I'm delighted with my conversion to mac 9 months ago, but this has me beaten.

OS X :: PC Won't Print To Mac Shared Printer?

Feb 21, 2009

Made a custom TCP/IP port on the PC. Assigned my Mac's IP address 192.16.1.101 as the location of the printer. Made sure protocol was set to RAW. Everything should work but the print job never makes it to the Mac. The print que on the PC shows error and the print que on the Mac never shows anything. I decided to delete all the printers on the PC, plug it in directly to the printer via usb and let it install the drivers, print test page etc... After that I reconnected the printer to the mac, pc to the network and just changed the port on the printer properties to reflect the IP address. It still didn't work. I can't seem to find any more information on what to do next. The PC is running Win XP and the Mac is on Leopard. Another thing, how does the PC know which printer to use if the Mac has two attached? I disabled sharing on the other printer thinking the PC might have been confused.

I don't get how I can see the printer when I add it, but it just won't print.

I am currently sharing the printer via USB (broken networkport) connected via a Mac using 10.4.11. I can print from every Mac, obviously. Mac Pro :: Can't Print To Ethernet Networked Printer

Feb 6, 2012

Today, for some reason I can't print to our networked printer, a Kyocera FS-6950DN laser. All I am getting now is a 'Network host is busy, will retry in 10/15 secs' and the job just holds.

So, what have I tried. To eleminate any printer issues I have successful managed to print direct from my MacBook (also running OSX 10.6.8) without a problem. So the printer seems fine. However, if a connect directly (again via a single ethernet cable) to my MacPro it won't print. I have deleted the printer and created a new one. Actually, I have done this several times. When I go to create a new printer I can see the printer listed a a bonjour printer. I select it, then I use 'generic postcript'.  I can choose the my printer here, but I seem to remember that this was a problem when I set it up originally and I was advised to use the generic option. I click add and that used to work. But not now. I have checked that the printer has a static ip address and it does. I have also tried adding the printer as an IP printer and adding the IP address etc maually, but again this doesn't work. I've tried this both with LPD set or IPP set. I get the same busy error message.

Trawling the net I have noticed lots of people with Kyocera print issues relating to the latest OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 update. Although having succesfully printed from my MacBook that would suggest that 10.6.8 isn't the issue in my case.

I should also say that I have done the usual... repaired the permissions and reset the PRAM etc. I have ping tested the connection from my MacPro and there is a response from the printer. It's just not finding the printer when I send the job to print?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Print To Network Printer Over VPN

Feb 16, 2012

I have a networked printer in my home network. I also have a (working) PPTP VPN set up to connect to that home network while on the road. When I open the VPN tunnel, I can adress all devices on the network, including the printer. I can ping it as well as open its Web front end (via Safari). The only thing that doesn't work is: I can't print over the tunnel! I've tried turning on "send all traffic over VPN", but that didn't help. Some research on the web seems to indicate that the solution lies in an option "Exclude Local LAN from Tunnel". This, however, is not an option for the built-in PPTP client in Lion.
