OS X :: Making Me Log In Every Time When I Boot My System
Feb 15, 2010
I have been over so many settings in system preferences its making my head spin. Every time I boot my macbook that is running snow leopard it makes me log in. This is a very recent thing and I honestly didn't do anything to make it happen. When the problem first started happening it would also have the spinning thing on the bottom of the screen for about 5 seconds at the blue screen when shutting down. It doesn't do that as of lately though. If anyone knows how to stop it from making me log in every time I boot let me know. I will be checking back so if anyone wants to use ichat to log onto my computer to check settings let me know.

I have heard this "bleep"ish sound twice now in the last 15 minutes. It sounds like it is not coming from the studio monitors that I am using as speakers. It's rather hot right now...
iStat reports this as my temperatures

I am upgrading my hard drive in my MacBook Pro and before removing the old hard drive I backed my time machine up to a NAS (Network Hard Drive). I put in the new drive and booted from the Snow Leopard DVD. I formatted it for HFS+ and then selected the option to Restore System from Full Backup. I selected my network hard drive and all seemed to go well. After clicking restart, the machine restarted, gave me the chime, and then displayed the infamous multi-language kernel panic message with some text in the background. Here's a paraphrase of the background text:
"panic (cpu 0 caller) version mis-match between Kernel and CPU PM @/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.9.17/osfmk/i386/pmCPU.c:707
Backtrace CPU 0,... 4 potential args on stack

apple during startup there is a "working bar" that the cpu has to go through and this takes 6 minutes every time. I never used to have this one until I installed a new graphic card.

so I bought a new 500gb hard drive to replace my 200gb that came with my MBP. The backup was from the same machine, just a different hard drive. The restore said it completed successfully, but when it boots it boots and and the screen just stays blue.
Now I did the restore using my new Macbook Pro System disc to do the restore. The backup is 10.6.4. Can anyone provides me with some assistance.

I had a system update a couple of days ago and since then I've noticed a slower boot time and my toolbar/applications hang for a while. It never used to do this before the update.
I'm on a Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.8.
Info:
MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I've been reading this site for a while now, first time I'm posting. I recently purchased 8 GB of RAM for my 2010 13" MBP. There are two 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10500 1333mhz sticks. When I install them in the laptop my computer does not get past the apple logo boot screen (the spinning disc freezes). However, I can boot into Windows (boot camp) without issues.
Also, when I pair either of the 4 GB sticks with one of my old 2 GB stock sticks the laptop boots up fine in OS X. The system profiler registers it as 6 GB of 1067 mhz RAM (the stock sticks are 1067 mhz)

my old 2x2Ghz PM G5 (late2004) doesn't launch the boot sequence:
- when pushing power button, the blue led turn ON as long as I keep it pushed. If not pushed, it light off but yet the fan are running.
- no chime
- the fans turn on normally and the hard drive start a little to make noise once powered up.
- no video on display, the screen is black.
- the keyboard is not recognized anywhere I plug it.
- after a minute or two of non activity, the fans start to blow full speed (guess its a security measure for saving processor)
I ve done the reset of PMU several time (unplug the power cord then push the button at bottom of mother board)As i dont have access to keyboard, I can't start on Target mode to check if the HD is failing all.I ve removed all RAM extensions and left only one pair in slot 1 (J0), and changed the pair to avoid a faulty RAM.I only have a redlight on motherboard if I don t put back the glass panel.I ve check the voltage of the lithium battery, and yet its the original, the voltmeter says its 3,6V...

last night I was using my computer just chatting with people, then all of the sudden it shuts off. Now it won't boot past the apple grey loading screen, and the fans slowly rev up till they are full boar, and I have to shut it off for them to stop. I've reset the PRAM, the SMU/PMU, tried holding alt and selecting my drive to boot to. None of these did anything, and didn't help at all.
I've heard it's a processer or logic board failure, or a HD failure, or something else. I'm ready to buy a new computer, I'm actually kind of sick of this one, I just want to know if I can fix it or not. I will probably take it to the apple store just to make sure, but maybe I can get an answer on here to know how to fix it or just to know that it's dead.

I noticed that my system stopped making system (i.e. Mac OS X) sounds for some reason. Sounds from applications are fine. I checked and unchecked the "play user interface sound effects" check box in the preference panes to no effect.

My (new) iMac makes a strange noise when I boot. It looks like the hard disk to me. As long as it makes the noise, it doesn't boot. After the noise is gone (sometimes in a minute, sometimes five). I have attached a file recorded with my iPhone to illustrate what I mean. Is this normal or should I get back to Apple?

I have a MacBook Pro running OSHave been trying to create a bootable CD. Have found a number of ways on the net of doing this using Toast, BootCD, DiskCopy, etc. But every one requires the system folder from an original Mac OSXCD. 2 installation disks came with my MacBook, Install Disks 1&2. I can find a system folder, but it contains thousands of folders. I must be missing something.

I want to know, is there any specific way possible I can set up my external hard drive so that when I plug it in, it mounts as an image file? So say I have a file "Image.DMG" on my desktop, I want to make it so that my external hard drive "becomes" Image.DMG, so when I plug it in, that's what it mounts as. I would like to do this because I want to make a boot image using my external hard drive.

I have a 2009 15" Macbook Unibody and for as long as I can remember the superdrive has been making a loud noise when I boot up the machine. Its similar to the noise when you insert a disk. I just figured this was the lens aligning and that it was normal. My brother however works at an Apple store and has a Unibody and his is deadly silent, he also said the laptops he had used at work make no such sound. He said as long as the drive functions then its nothing to worry about.
It doesn't happen at any other time, and the drive does indeed function perfectly fine. It just bugs me when I turn my laptop on and hear a loud freaky noise. Just wondering if anyone here has this and what they think of it?

I had a Macbook pro that died. I need to get some files from the harddisk. The harddisk has been mounted on another Mac running leopard. Unfortunately the file-system is showing as read-only making the disk unusable for further writing on that mac.

the computer has also been re-formated about a month ago as it was passed onto me from a family member, an im wondering if its got anything to do with that?is this a normal thing for macs an maybe i just havent noticed it before, or does it sound like something is wrong??

So I have an old imac running OSX 10.3.9 and recently it started making a whoosh sound randomly at will. It sounds like a whiffle ball bat missing the ball. Also for no apparent reason it started saying "you have logged in" every time I wake it up. Any clue how to make these annoying sounds go away and or what may have started them?

After owning my Imac for about 12 months or more now I've noticed lately that it has become much much slower. I expected it to slow down just like all computers once you have used up a fair bit of memory space but I haven't used up much at all. I've tried to avoid using up too much space on my Mac by using an external storage drive but I'm wondering if that has the opposite effect? I've got the usual apps that help the Mac to run efficiently and I've followed various threads that show how to optimize the mac so I'm assuming there isn't all that much tweaking left to do... could be wrong though. A long time ago (i'm not sure what got into me) but I downloaded the apple developer software, I don't intend on using it but i don't what the correct names of the apps are and I don't want to uninstall the wrong stuff. I have tested the speed of my Mac with and without the external memory drive but didn't find much difference, but perhaps my tests weren't entirely accurate.

I just had a question about my fan, whenever I'm on my computer for about 30 minutes plus, my fan starts making a kind of grinding sound, and my computer exceeds 200F. I do play World of Warcraft, and I know this most likely causes the heating issue, but it only started about 2 months ago. And i bought my Mac mid-2009 and have had no problems until now.

I have done some research on triple boot systems, and it appears that a third OS must be run virtually, but all the information I came across was a few years old. Microsoft is running a deal right now on Windows 7 for students so I would like to pick up a copy and try it out.
Is it possible to run 3 operating systems through Boot Camp 3.0? I am not interested in running a virtual OS.
Current Setup:
13" macbook pro
Snow Leopard and Windows XP through Boot Camp

Just an FYI. Tech Support at Allsoft states The Disk Warrior 4.2 Boot DVD will not Boot the new 2010 MBP's. They are waiting for information (software) from Apple.
Will need to use Target Mode or another Mac connected with Firewire till then. Boot from that then run DW from your MBP.

I have two objects in keynote that do about 14 moves each (spin and move) but I can not get them to go at the same time. The next one will only start when the first one ends. I can't move the second object to the top of the build order because when I do that it ruins all the spin/move steps. Want I kinda need is the ability to run step 13 with step one (whilst leaving the build order in the same rank)..unless somebody has got another way to do this?

I'm going to be replacing the hard drive in my MacBook at around the same time that I'll be upgrading to Snow Leopard. I'm not exactly sure what the best way to do this would be.
Would it be possible to back up my computer in its current (Leopard) state and then restore that backup onto the new hard drive after I install Snow Leopard?

I have a June 2010 17" 2.66 i7 UMBP. This is going to sound really silly and I do not really know how to describe it correctly, but it has begun to make lots of strange "Tapping/Clicking" noises. It happens quite regularly when the notebook is stationary but increase whenever the notebook is moved.
I am familiar with the hard drive clicking noise but this is totally different - it kind of sounds like a small metal ball-bearing inside a small, thin glass sphere knocking or clicking against it's side or like tapping a small thin glass object with something like a thin metal rod.
I am sorry for the poor description but that is the best way I can describe it & know I must sound like a complete idiot but I am not very savvy to computer issues but I hope someone can identify what these noises are if if they mean that something bad is going on.

1.33 Ghz) has started acting up, and while I think I know what the problem is, I'd like some confirmation. The symptoms:
After starting the PB up, it runs for about 5 minutes before we get a permanent spinning beach ball. When the beach ball is up, I hear what sounds like (and is coming from) the hard drive. It sounds like it's spinning either way to fast, or as if something is wrong with it. All the open programs freeze, and we do a forced shut down. Also, the first time this happened, we had a song playing in iTunes. The song would play a 2 second clip, then stop, then start, and continue to stutter.
We've tried turning the computer off, unplugging the battery and the power, but it still does this.I think it's a hard drive problem, and that we need a new hard drive. Does this sound correct?

Hey guys, got a little issue here. I have had a MBA since about march of this year. Just recently I on two occasions the computer has all of a sudden had this loud high pitch whine. It has only happened twice and at both times (if I remember the 1st time correctly) I wasn't really doing anything on the computer. Today specifically it was just sitting idle on my desk. Not sure where its coming from maybe speakers? Any idea to what this is? Should I be setting up an appointment to see a Mac Genius?
