I did a search for a downloaded file. Result came back Home>Library>Filename. Cool. Problem is this: When I go to Home, there is no file named Library, nor is there a mail downloads file. Is the file hidden and, if so, how do I show it?

My .jpg attachments open as a picture inside the body of my note, and do not show up as openable attachments. How do I get them to show just as attachments when sent to a PC? I already have them formatted for Windows in the Mail program. This problem is something new with Lion.

Can you get the number of files to show at the bottom of the window like it did in OS 10.5?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Mac Mini that came with Lion installed. I couldn't transfer my files over from my old G4 because the video card died in that Mac, so I put the hard drive into an external USB case and did the transfer of my old settings that way using Migration Assistant. All my settings seems to have moved fine and I manually moved my web files to Library/WebServer/ Documents folder, but when I turn on Web Sharing none of my files show up on the server although they are all in the Library/WebServer/ Documents folder and Web Sharing is turned on Sharing Preferences. All I get when I access the IP is "It Works".

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro running Lion (as you can probably guess!), with a 512Gb SSD and 8Gb Ram. Its a pretty fast machine and i'm really happy with the way it runs, however when I open a folder to view files, it opens and shows a blank folder and then I get the black pinwheel in the bottom left/right hand side and I have to wait for sometimes over 30 seconds before the files in that folder are shown!?Â
One thing to point out is that it doesn't always happen and its not restricted to particular folders. I can open a folder and it will show the files straight away, however I can re-open that folder and it will take up to 30 seconds to show the files...Â
I've tried rebooting and running nothing, but it still happens. And I have also tried the normal disk utilities to check permissions, etc and I think these are fine too..Â

When I attach a file to Mail, it shows as an open file, not as a file name. How do I make attached files show as file names, not as an open file?

how to keep certain files from being looked up in ALL My Files finder search?
I have a folder that is Write Access only for me and No Access for everyone else for important files. This file is also locked. You can't click on it, open it, etc with out getting permission pop ups. Â
HOWEVER! When using Finder's All My Files it will actually show me those files in the locked folder! Plus I can Open them, Copy them etc! I have the path bar view turned on at the bottom and it's so messed up. I can click and open the file from there, but I can't click and open the folder containing it. Â
Thoughts on how to hide these folder contents from all my files search? I really don't want to hide each and every file, that's why they're in a folder.

I've been using itunes for a while and it just messed my entire music library up! I've found something that is more Winamp style for me named "Cog". Now my problem is that I want to control it with the F7, F8, F9 keys which are the rewind, play and forward keys, but when pressing any of them it works both on itunes and cog player. How can I disable the Itunes link to it? I want it to control only Cog player.

How can I see what is on it? I think it might have pics that I need to save, but I don't have another computer to try it on.

I have a 1GB flash drive..of which i've placed some iTunes formatted home movies in to hand to my dad who has a Windows XP laptop.
When this flash drive is connected to his laptop and I discover the flash drive on XP, and try to open it...nothing happens. Nothing opens. At best it says that in order to view the files in the flash drive that Windows XP needs to reformat the flash drive, but in the process it states that it will have to erase all content and data to do so..
So now i'm wondering how can I transfer these movie files from my MBP to his Windows XP laptop.?
I've only tried this on flash drives and really hope it wouldn't be the same situation if I used my external hard drive instead; as in connecting my external HD which had a ton more home movies, connect it to his laptop and hopefully it showing up... My external HD isn't running Time Machine or anything like that, it's just a clean External HD where I throw in a lot of home movies...
When I open pdf files (opened directly from web or saved on my macbook pro) the pages are always blank in Preview. However, table-outlines are shown.

I have all my TV Shows on an external drive. Sometimes, when I disconnect and then reconnect the external hard drive to my computer I have to drag and drop the files for them to show in my iTunes library and then Apple TV. However, when I drag and drop the TV shows into iTunes, they somehow always seem to default to the Movies folder, I then have to edit them manually for them to only to show in the TV show folder. how I only get these files to appear in the TV show folder and not the movie one?

I'm using a 15" Macbook/retina, OS X 10.9.4, ITunes 11.3.1 (2). ITunes shows the album art. But if I go to the files themselves, finder shows some with art some without. Why? I currently have one file that shows no art in icon or list view. In column and cover flow, it shows art in the info pane but not the highlighted file. I can move the file out of ITunes and the art shows up everywhere but icon view. Other files, show the art in all the right places.

I am running 10.9.4
It can be done through terminal, its just a bit all or nothing. I would like to show the .DS files on a USB stick for example, remove them and switch back to hide without round tripping to terminal every time.
Can be done easily on a PC but not the Mac i know. Did I dream it or could one show/hide hidden files on previous OS? I know extra menu items appear with the alt but not 'show hidden'
Having the .DS files is a real pain when loading movie files onto a media player or trying to play through a SMART TV. As most (all) smart tvs only accept FAT/ ExFAT formatting the .DS files show in the menu. On media players it's worse as it prevents one playing multiple movies in order and to repeat till you hit stop. As soon as the player hits a .DS it will stop and throw up an error.Â
