ITunes :: 9 Installed - Getting An Error In Start Up Volume?

May 31, 2012

Ive recently had to re-install Tiger after being told that there was an error in the startup volume. I am far from computer savy so I just basically follow instructions  Sadly, after doing so Ive been experiencing problems with my iPod nano & iTunes. I can sync but the songs put onto my iPod look gray instead of black. And, when I disconnect my iPod says there arent any songs on it. When I look at Music in Finder I noticed that I get a few items listed more than once. I was wondering if this could be the reason for my iPod issues. This is what Im looking at:  (all the ones that are bold & underlined have the folder icon next to them)

MacBook Pro :: Mavericks Cannot Be Installed On This Volume

Sep 2, 2014

Been dealing with some issues, thought I'd try for a clean install of Mavericks.  I get a message that Mavericks cannot be installed on this volume.  I have a brand new 2.8 GHz MacBook Pro, when I received it I just do what I've done many times before and used Carbon Copy Cloner to copy my old boot volume on to the new computer.  I did, however, partition the drive (1 TB SSD) into manageable and useful segments.  The message I'm getting I feel is saying that this computer doesn't use Mavericks, or the version I have (from the App Store).

Applications :: Control ITunes Volume (not System Volume) From Apple Aluminum Keyboard?

Oct 20, 2009

I have a Mac Pro and not too long ago I swapped from a fat, heavy and filthy white Apple Keyboard to a new skinny silver one. I like it, and also love that the F7-9 Skip Back-Pause/Play-Skip Forward keys work for iTunes, even when another app is active (what's the word I'm looking for - in focus or whatever). But I use Optical output, so the volume keys (F10-12) don't do anything. I know that, when iTunes is the active app, I can command-+/- to change the volume, but I'd love to be able to map the F10-12 keys to do that - without having to have iTunes active (playing, but not the active window).

OS X :: Volume Repair Options At Start Up With A System

Dec 11, 2010

I have a MacBook that is running leopard. After running a volume repair that failed I tried to restart my laptop, but when it gets to the blue loading screen, it takes forever and then shuts off. I can still run the Mac os x installer. When I go to disk utility, the Macintosh hd tab is visible, whereas it wasn't available before. Okay scratch that it isn't available anymore. Though, I just clicked on startup disk and it is visible there.

Desktops :: Volume Could Not Be Repaired Because Of Error

Apr 19, 2010

My old iMac G4 (running OS 10.4) has been running sluggishly with sporadic freezes & "spinning pizzas" for several months. I launched Disk Utility which displayed the following message "SMART: failing". I attempted to restart the iMac but it would freeze immediately after the "gong". I was, however, able to restart from the install CD. I attempted to run Repair Permissions which froze. I ran Repair Disk which reported that "volume cannot be repaired because of an error". I restarted from the Disk Warrior CD. The hardware test indicated that "the built-in SMART indicated everything is normal".Is this all indicative of an internal drive that is behaving unpredictably & about to die?

Windows On Mac :: Could Not Locate OS X Boot Volume Error

Jun 27, 2010

Usually when I go to "Restart into Mac OS X" from Boot Camp's system tray icon it works fine, but just recently it has started giving me this error and not working. It seems like usually when this errors hows it's because the Mac volume is bad or missing, but I have a perfectly working HFS+ boot volume that is visible in Windows and boots just fine. I do also have a second HFS+ partition for data, but no problems with them.

IMac G5 Would Not Start When New RAM Installed / But Fan Runs

Mar 21, 2012

I recently upgraded the RAM on my iMac PowerPC, but after installing the new modules, nothing would come up when I boot it. It gives me 2 (or three) of the "dial tone" beeps, the light flashes on and off and the only thing running would be the fan, running at an ultra high speed.I did install the correct modules, which are 2 x 1gb 184 pin DDR PC3200 400mhz ones, but I realize that they are high density ones. Dumb question here, but would that be the problem?

Software ::PowerPC Imac Will Not Start Up / OS 10.4.11 Installed On It?

Nov 10, 2010

I have a PowerPC Imac. I have OS 10.4.11 installed on it. Today I started it up and it was working fine, however it froze while trying to load Photoshop. I had to force shut down and when I tried to reboot, I got a flashing folder and question mark. I have tried running Disk Utility, but it gets stuck at the Gathering Disk Information stage. I have tried resetting the PRAM (I think that's what it's called). It won't let me start up in safe mode or single-use mode. When I try to specify a startup disk, my hard drive is not listed.

What do I do? Is there any way to salvage this? My biggest concern are my pictures of my family that I unfortunately have not backed up.

Intel Mac :: Status Bar On Start, Volume Control Crossed Out, Spotlight Not Working?

Apr 21, 2012

About every other time I start up my Mac I get a status bar on startupt (before the login). It takes a bit longer than normal to start up but eventually it does. However, on these occasions that my Mac acts like this I also encounter two (at least) other issues. The first is the volume control has a crossed-out symbol, and hence there is no sound whatsoever—internal speakers or external. Further, and perhaps more troubling, is Spotlight does not work; I attempt to search but I only have the option for web results.

I also notice some general slow down and it sounds like the Mac is always working on something (fans aren't running full blast though). This led me to open Activity Moniter, which revealed and absurd amount of Wired memory (about 6 GB out of 8).

What is going on here? I've tried resetting my PRAM and booting in Safe mode; however, I am having the embaressing problem of not actually accomplishing those tasks (I think). I hold down the correct keys but my bluetooth keyboard doesn't seem to be responsive early enough for the keystrokes to register.

OS X :: When Installed New Safari, Get An Unexpected Error?

Aug 19, 2010

What I found was that this behaviour was reset between reboots. That is, sometimes the problem was gone; other times, I would have to restart repeatedly, hoping for a "good boot."In July I found a good boot was hard to find. I was out of town for a month after that. When I returned, there were only bad boots. I tried to update Safari, but "an unexpected error occurred." The next day, the machine chimed on boot, showed the grey Apple plus a progress bar (which never got very far), and turned off. That's all it does now.

PowerPC :: Reinstall OSX On G5imac Error Message Can't Be Installed?

Oct 10, 2009

So, husband booted from OSX disc, wiped computer using disc utility, now it won't reinstall from the same disc. He says the error message is "Can't be installed on this computer." When I asked what disc he used, he says it was "the only one that let me start up from it." I believe it is disc one of the mac osX install disc version 1.0. He said the disc that was labeled for the G5 wouldn't let him boot up. He is ranting now about there being no difference between PC's and Apple. If you can, please tell me how to fix this, or at least how to get the disc out while it is the computer's startup disc. He's about ready to to hit the wall.

Update: Got the disc out and am now attempting to install from G5 OSX disc but getting the "this software cannot be installed on this computer" message. Why? It is the right disc!

And then all the icons below are kind of stacked onto each other so you can only access some of them and its impossible to see what the icons does, cause the text for them also run into each other.
