I bought a new G-RAID and do not know how te start FCPX. I can start FCPX from other external drives containing FCPX Libraries. I do not simply want to copy libraries from existing drives to the new G-RAID.

I installed final cut studio 2 to my macbook pro from my friend external hard drive and I have it all saved up in my memory.
Now i m upgrading my macbook pro and would like to save final cut studio to my wd external hard drive so i can install it in my new macbook pro but it will not allow me it tells me there is an unexpected error code 0.
Cannot connect to external drive from Final Cut X import window; cannot create new project. I have tried repairing drives and permissions. I have a MacBook Pro, 2.7 GHz, Core 17, with OS X 10.9.3 (13D65). Everything is recently updated.

Are you able to hook up an external drive and actually edit the project directly on the drive through Final Cut Pro x? I have been considering getting a couple g drives with thunderbolt to speed up my backup process but wondered if it's possible to edit right there.

I recently purchased an external hard drive to store my Final Cut Pro projects, and what I would like to happen is that I see projects stored on my computer when the drive is not plugged in I would like to see the projects stored on my computer. If this is not possible I would at least like to be able to see the project stored on my drive and edit them Final Cut Pro. I only see the projects on my computer in Final Cut Pro even when the hard drive is plugged in and it has projects on it. I basically want to store my Final Cut Pro projects and be able to edit them on my external drive. (final cut pro 10.1.3 latest build of Yosemite)

I used SuperDuper to back up a project to an external Thunderbolt drive. The files are all there on the external drive but the references are still directed to the original drive (an external USB 3.0 drive).
I tried changing the locations of all files and then consolidating, but it still references the original drive. If I eject that original drive and just start FCPx from the copy on the Thunderbolt drive I just get a lot of "missing file" red flags.
How can I fix this? I would like to avoid doing a "duplicate project" every time as the project is over a terrabyte and it takes a long time to copy. SuperDuper only copies the files that have changed.

I'm having the most difficult time transferring projects and events from a 13" MacBook Pro (Late 2011) to an iMac (late 2013) I have moved the projects and referenced events to an external "WD my Passport for Mac" Hard drive. It holds 1TB.
In Final Cut Pro X 10.1.1 on the new iMac, the device is not recognized. I tried updating Mavericks and Final Cut. I've tried repairing the permissions, repairing both disk(s) deleting render files, restarting the disk, disconnecting the hard drive, restarting the computer. etc to no avail.
FCPX (latest version) recognizes my external hard drive (my book 4TB) as a camera. Didn't dave this problem before, so when I'm importing to my project the the hard drive is listed as a camera and the program starts to scan through all files! this means that the ram memory is filled i no time! Is it something in my settings or is it the new version of fcpx that is playing tricks on me (not supported had drive?)

I have copied all of my data from a 1T external hard drive to a new 4T external hard drive, but FCPX doesn't recognize my media files unless I rename the new drive to that of the old one. The problem is I want to continue using the old one. Is there an easy way to relink my files and keep the original name of the new drive?

I am upgrading my mid 2012 MBP with an internal SSD. I have16 RAM. OS is Mavericks.
I edit videos using a mix of photos (imported layers via photoshop), short animations, short video clips. I do some very basic stop animation also. So each media file is not heavy (photos, pics, short videos), but I do a lot of layering and compositing in FCPX. I had a lot of delays and freezes with 5400 rpm HDD… so I decided to upgrade to SSD.
Some people have told me to edit it all on my internal SSD as the media files are not big..
Everywhere else on the web I read that all media / libraries should be on an external while I edit them. But most of these contributors are using huge video files, HD, which is not my case.
So – with small media files but lots of editing and effects / animation, should I spend the extra money on a good external 7200 rpm USB3 to edit from ? Or just use external drive for storage and not editing.
Not going for TB as I read there would not be a difference between USB3 and TB on a 7200 rpm external drive (difference is felt when using RAID, r SSD external) ...

I bought a Guardian MAXimus hard drive and it seemed to be working fine for the past few weeks. Now all of sudden when starting my Imac 27 I7 the grey screen takes a long time then it get stuck on the blue screen and stays like that. Some times after being on the blue screen it will goto the main page but it takes 3-5 min if it does. When it gets stuck, if I unplug the firewire from the back of the computer from the hard drive it boots up. Any thoughts, their tech support wants me to send the unit back with out doing any testing at home to see what the problem is, seems like a pain in the butt.

At first I got error messeges saying my external HDD could not read, now it looks like its my primary drive because when I restarted I got the progress bar under the apple logo, indicating that something is wrong with the OS. The bar when to full 100% but then I got stuck at never ending spinning wheel. I restarted and no more progress bar but still the spining wheel of death. I really dont mind refomrating its just that I had some important text documents and other files that I cant get back without recoving them some how. How to proceed? I held down cmd v or s (i forgot) on startup and got a black screen with several problem statements. One reads the system boot strapper has crashed trace BPT trap.

I am having weird problems with Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and it's functionality with Snow Leopard.
Based on feedback I found online, I am being told to delete the com.apple.FinalCut Preferences and the /User Data folder. Still, I have to do that repeatedly. Whenever I open the Project file externally , FCP jams. Afterwards, it won't start up again.
Also, it is claiming not to recognize an DVCPro HD 1080i60 connection ; although, this is the same camera on my G5 Mac with FCP 5.1.4 and OSX Tiger

View 1 Replies View RelatedWorking on an iMac with a FCX library that links to an external media folder which has all my video. I'm not using managed media, but external links to the video source footage.
I make an exact duplicate copy of my FCX library on a USB drive, including the external media folder with all my video clips -- using the same folder structure and everything, But when I move that to another computer (MacBook Pro), open the exact same FCX library, open the same project -- I get missing links on every clip on my timeline. The library doesn't connect to the external media folder.
Re-linking causes an error and doesn't work either. The FCX library just won't take my "external media" folder which it links to fine on my iMac. All my projects on my MacBook Pro, have red "missing file" icons instead of the clips.
