I have the 20inch intel imac running leopard. Out of nowhere it started going very slow, spinning wheel every other click. Then just freezes. And now I can't start the computer again. It stops at the grey screen with the apple symbol like its loading but never does. I've tried unplugging the whole thing then again got a blinking question mark folder. I just keep getting different things. A blank white screen.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIt takes a very long time for the APPLE image to show up. A white screen stays on for at least 2 minutes before it slowly starts to boot up. Secondly when I connect to my I DISK it keeps wanting to synch with it and I cannot eject it to disconnect from my I DISK!

View 11 Replies View Relatedi ve got the parallel 5 on the new imac and loaded windows 7 from bootcamp, however the start time of windows 7 is extremely slow -- takes up to 5 minutes.... and the speed of launching application is not fast as well... sometimes even jammed the imac, ive then given them 4 cores with 4gb of ram (out of 8) and still nothing changes...

After installing OS X Lion on my Imac (middle 2007)
start up is very slow. Screen stays white with grey progress bar very slow to complete.
Then, after maybe 15 minutes, the desk screen appears and the Imac seems to work normally. I had upgraded the RAM to 3 Go before installing OS X Lion.

after hitting the power button I get the chime and then it takes several moments for the Apple logo and the spinner to pop up. After this it boots to the desktop quickly.
If I power up my MBP 13 in and iMac at the same time, the MBP clearly boots faster and the Apple logo pops up quickly.
I have a 2007 White intel core 2 duo imac, currently running Snow Leopard.Already, my computer is somewhat slow, and I'm wondering if I install Lion, will it slow it down even further?

I upgraded to Snow Leopard a few days ago, my Imac is from 2008, and today, I upgraded to Lion, and just when the computer rebooted, it got stuck in some form of reboot screen, dark, bunch of code. What do I do now? Do I need to turn it in?

My 2011 27 inch iMac which was purchased in February 2012 is not turning on. I have never had a problem with it until now. I was working on Bootcamp and when I restarted the computer, it froze at the login screen so I force restarted the computer by pressing the power button down for 10 seconds. When I restarted the computer it did not want to turn back on. The only thing that happens when I restart much computer is I hear something that normally sounds since I purchased the computer which is either the hard drive or the DVD drive but no white screen comes up. I have tried to pull the power plug for 15 seconds and then plug it back into the back of the computer and wait five seconds before turning it on and I have also tried restarting the computer while pressing command option P and R. I removed the memory sticks and put them back in properly get the computer still did not turn on. I have a 27 inch mid 2011 iMac running Mac OS X 10 7.4. It is a quad core I73.4 GHz with 16 GB of RAM 256 GB factory installed SSD +1 TB hard disk drive with the AMD 6970 and 2 GB graphics card. Sorry for the long post.!I wanted to be as descriptive as possible as I am really trying to avoid bringing it to the Apple Store because I need the computer because I go to school online and have finals this week.

Is this an indication that some hardware item is needing replacing? After a shut-down I'm having to keep the power button depressed for probably up to a minute before the system comes to life.

My iMac internet has become so slow I tend not to use it much at all. An adjacent PC runs fine so it seems to be a software issue and is relatively recent.

So as the title says when I boot up my iMac, on occasion, it seems to have the "Updating" Status bar, then the mac boots normally, then the sound is disabled. As I said though this dose not happed all the time but when it dose the only way to fix it is by rebooting the iMac once again. It was purchased brand new. I used it for one hour yesterday, run the set up, install updates. thats all I have done with it. Today I awake to it presenting a loading bar of some sort under the Apple logo and Spinning wheel. I researched the bar, and found that it was a progress bar for a disk check, and since it doesnt complete (I let it do its thing) something must be wrong, However when i run disk utility, it can find now error in the disk. but my sound and video play pack does not work unless i restart the machine. this seems like an unessecary process. what are the possible causes?

My Mid 2011 iMac 27" i7 will no longer start after the latest EFI update. I decided to perform some system updated on my iMac and after installing 10.7.3, I rechecked and it found the EFI update and one other update. They were both pretty small (the largest was 3.6MB), so I decided to proceed prior to getting back to business with my system. After downloading the updates (took about 5 seconds), the machine proceeded to restart. There was a loud beep prior to the system restart chime after which it went to the grey-white apple startup screen with the spinning wheel. And it stayed there. After 35 minutes with no discernable progress, I decided something must be wrong. This system normally takes about 30 seconds to boot from a cold state (it's running on an OWC SSD) or maybe a minute after updates. So I held the power button to reboot. But it keeps going to the same state. I tried to reboot to a different internal drive holding the option key, but the same thing happens.Â
System Specs:
iMac 27" i7 3.4 Ghz (mid 2011) 12G Ram
Internal 1TB Apple HD
Internal OWC SSD 240G (main startup drive)Â
1. How do I recover from this?
2. Is anyone else running into this problem?
3. How long do the EFI updates normally take?
4. Shouldn't there be some sort of "progress bar" to indicate something is going on during this process? Or, if not, then perhaps a "WARNING!! This process will take up to two hours, during which you will receive no discernable feedback. Do not interrupt the process until more than 24 hours have passed with the spinning ball."Â Â
P.S. I think this is my last iMac EFI update. After my last iMac received an EFI update (2009 model 24" iMac), it became ultra-flakey and started corrupting HD's. It never worked the same after that. This machine was working PERFECTLY before the update.

my Mac's start up is fine, until I get the the window with the bar that says "OS X starting up". This is the *really* slow bit. I am grateful for the fact that my old Power Mac is yet still faster at starting than my PC, but it is a whole lot slower than it should be. When I say "should be", all the Macs at school, or at the apple shop barely show the start up bar window. Ok, granted that they are a great deal newer and faster, but after a clean install of OS X on my machine, that bar was there for a maximum of 5 seconds. Now it usually takes 20-30 seconds.
Right, on to the things I have already tried:
* Cleaning out login items
* Turning off auto login
* Checking all my fonts
* Disabling the unused fonts
* Cleaning cache files and restarting twice
* Unplugging all of my hardware, bar the monitor
Even after trying everything on this list, plus a few hundred restarts, it is still booting up slowly. Does anybody have anymore ideas? Also, if somebody could please let me know where the log for system start up is stored, I will look through it and post it. Also, I should note that I am running OS X 10.4.11 'Tiger'.
I've got Mac os X and whenever I start it, it will run incredibly slow. It'll take about 10 minutes to go to the log on screen. Then I'll click the field where to type my password and itll freeze up for a good 3-5 minutes. Then I'll type my password in and have to wait another 5-10 minutes for the entire thing to actually load. Next It'll show the desktop screen but I can't do anything on it for a good 10 or 20 minutes. This all just started randomly one day after I reset my mac. The lag will slow down a good bit after about an hour or so of waiting, but I don't want to wait an hour just to use my laptop.

Recently over the past month or two i have noticed that my mac book pro has become slower to start up, i only got my mac book for christmas 2011 so its not even a year old.

I've had my 13" macbook (running SL) for almost 2 years now (I believe) but recently it has started to act rather oddly. On startup it used to take probably 20 seconds or so while now it can take upwards of 3 minutes just to get to the desktop. I have added a few newer programs on startup but this time is just from the apple screen to the desktop, not counting the time for the startup items.
Also, the more annoying issue, when shutting down my macbook will sit at just the desktop (no icons) for several seconds before going to a blank screen for sometimes several minutes. Sometimes the circular loading thing (the one that is used when starting up) appears and when it does I'm forced to do a manual shutdown (holding the power button) because it refuses to shut down. My battery has also been dying easier and taking longer to charge so could it have something to do with the battery?
Yesterday my macbook start shutting down and booting up slowly. It used to work so quickly, and now it's taking much longer. The only thing I did was install a printer before it happened. Then when the problem began I uninstalled the printer with the uninstaller that it came with. I thought maybe that was the issue, but uninstalling it didn't seem to make a difference. I checked in the preferences to make sure it is starting up with the hard drive and it is. I'm not sure what else to do. It's not a huge issue, but it is a difference and the fact that it's only about a month old worries me. I do have to add that even though it's slower than it was just 24 hours ago, it's faster than my Dell PC ever was
