I have the 20inch intel imac running leopard. Out of nowhere it started going very slow, spinning wheel every other click. Then just freezes. And now I can't start the computer again. It stops at the grey screen with the apple symbol like its loading but never does. I've tried unplugging the whole thing then again got a blinking question mark folder. I just keep getting different things. A blank white screen.
View 5 RepliesI have an iMac intel from 2009.. the computer is used only for simple internet exploring, word documents, emails... etc. The hard drive has 140GB of free space, and I have erased the free disk space with 1 pass.The computer runs SO slow to the point where it's almost unusable. To me, it feels like a memory issue, even though the programs that are used require very minimal memory... I tried ejecting the RAM stick blowing on it and popping it back in, but no luck... It has 1GB of ram total.

I have an aluminium iMac, 2.4GHz Intel C2D, 2GB RAM, running Leopard.On one account, it runs slowly, with a noticeable delay in doing anything, even menus take a second do to anything once they've been clicked.It has all the updates installed and I've tried repairing the permissions and rebooting already.
Since I've only noticed it on one account, I'm inclined to think it's a corrupted user file or something.
My PPC G4 iMac is slow as hell. I plan on upgrading soon enough to a newer iMac but in the meantime I'd love to recover some speed. I know i have a woefully low amount of RAM - 768 to be exact - but apparently I'm stuck with that. It was running better in the past but with time things just slowed to a crawl with minimal things open - Mail, Safari and maybe Word and Excel. I gave up trying to run PS Elements 3 on this machine. That just makes me want to scoop my eyes out with a spoon.
I run iClean regularly, I have my desktop clear of clutter. What can I do in the interim before I buy the new iMac to help things some? Or am I just S.O.L. and just be patient and wait for the new machine?
My iMac is running slow and sometimes freezes. There shouldn't be a problem with memory (6GB); the backup HD is a 1GB WD and backup is run via Time Machine. Backup seems to run OK but there is an enormous drain on CPU usage and the process takes forever.

Anyway we have had the system now for over a year we all love it and have worked out the basics. My problem is that lately it has become very sluggish and jumps out of Safari a lot, Safari closes unexpectantly. It takes ages for even Word or anything to come up. It takes a very long time for the APPLE image to show up. A white screen stays on for at least 2 minutes before it slowly starts to boot up. Secondly when I connect to my I DISK it keeps wanting to synch with it and I cannot eject it to disconnect from my I DISK!

My iMac will be 3 years old Oct 19 2010 and it's running pretty slow. I do a lot of video editing and have 1GB of memory ( I think that's the RAM). I'm pretty sure that's not the right amount of RAM I should have for the things I'm doing but I could be wrong. I have about 5 apps open at once for recreational use and about 2 for video editing, those 2 being Final Cut Pro and iTunes. So would it be my low amount of RAM causing my computer to slow down or another reason?

I have a 27-inch, Mid 2011 running the 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5. I currently have 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 in four slots (4 each).
When I uploaded OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and shortly after uploaded CleanMyMac 2 I started to experience tremendous latency in processing speeds on all applications. Running CleanMyMac 2 multiple times and removing no longer used apps to free up space did little to resolve the issue.

Her windows computer died and the local computer shop moved everything to the iMac and when the mom complained the iMac was slow the computer shop told her it had blown caps. To me blown caps wouldn't cause it to run slow, lock up and be unreliable I would believe but not slow. Has anyone had a Mac just run slow because of blown capacitors?
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I started suffering pretty bad from color wheel load time where safari was getting glitchy and taking forever to move. I tried to cold start it to see if a refresh would help. Well it white screened, and wouldnt exit the loading screen. I reset the ram memory with alt ctrl p and r; this did nothing. Eventually I kissed all my music projects and logic pro 9 good bye, and reformatted from the boot disc. When I went to use it, I got out of the white screen, but was ridiculously slow.
Thinking maybe I didn't do the partition right, I reformatted again, erased the entire drive, set the partition, and loaded 10.6. Any time I open safari, it gets glitchy, and incredibly slow to the point I cant even restart. I cleared the memory again and this still did nothing. I purchased and installed new ram; still nothing. Coming from windows a reformat usually takes care of things. I have no idea what I can do at this point. Its a 2007 24" 2.4 ghz 2gb RAM.
My late 2010 iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 12gb of ram is running very slow. It takes a very long for the computer to boot with the desktop taking ages to fully load. Applications are also taking an unholy amount of time to load with the spinning wheel always appearing through out use, and they often crash or don't respond and close during use. I'm talking applications like Word taking 3 minutes to load and getting the spinning wheel when font size is tried to be changed and crashing and closing if a large volume of text is attempted to be pasted into a document.The computer is also failing to shut down properly just staying on a blue screen. I recently wiped and completed a fresh install however the issues came back.

i ve got the parallel 5 on the new imac and loaded windows 7 from bootcamp, however the start time of windows 7 is extremely slow -- takes up to 5 minutes.... and the speed of launching application is not fast as well... sometimes even jammed the imac, ive then given them 4 cores with 4gb of ram (out of 8) and still nothing changes...

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 20" iMac mid 2007 2.4Ghz, 320GB, 2Gb machine running Snow Leopard. Today I turned it on and it was running fine. But around three hours of using it suddenly froze. I had to force the turn off using the power button. When i turned it back on it took about 4 mins to get to the login screen. Once I logged in the spinning wheel came up and the only think that loaded was the Spotlight sign. This kept happening until about the third time of turning it off and on. When it finally completed login. But it is now extremely slow and it just about freezes when I open more than one application.

I ran the latest security update which found and removed the malware itself. But still my iMac is running very slow and crashing when doing two jobs at once.
Any reason as to why?Is it still infected? or has the malware corrupted my hd or memory?

after hitting the power button I get the chime and then it takes several moments for the Apple logo and the spinner to pop up. After this it boots to the desktop quickly.
If I power up my MBP 13 in and iMac at the same time, the MBP clearly boots faster and the Apple logo pops up quickly.
I just brought a brand new IMAC 21.5" the base model (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics) with 4 gb RAM. I downloaded the trial version of adobe cs5 to check if it runs ok but when I am starting things from scratch like just creating things from a blank canvas it runs so slow like trying to paint stuff and render it comes up with a loading screen it just doesn�t do it straight away. But when I am working on photos it seems to run ok. Is there away to solve this issue? Do I need to updated my RAM to make it run smooth?

MBP then now it running so slow on start-up and apps are very slow to open like around 5 minutes. Every action that I try to do like clicking on the apple in the upper left it freezes showing a spinning wheel and it will take time to show the drop down options. I checked disk utility and it said that HD is ok, done verify/permission verify and repair.
I checked the activity monitor noting the ram/CPU usage and its normal it even tells that 2GB of ram is not use.It shows not responding in the activity monitor if you open an app for around 5mins then it opens or it will crash.I already done the 2 kinds of reset and did not work.BUT it opens normally in Safe mode.

I edit using Lightroom and Photoshop and I'm having an issue while editing. After editing around 8-10 photos in Photoshop the computer starts running unbelievably slow. After each 8-10 photos I have to close down everything and reboot. Even the reboot process is super slow as I have to force quit each application usually 1-2 times to get it to close. Is this normal? I have a 2011 17" with 2.2 GHZ i7 with 8GB ram. Is there any setting that I can change or be aware of.
