My MacBook Pro has been running quite slow ever since upgrading from Snow Leopard to OS X Lion 10.7.3. Applications were already very slow to quit in Snow Leopard but are incredibly slow in Lion. I often have to force quit.

I experienced what I believe was a crash so after various attempts at doing a time machine restore, I performed an erase of the HDD and have been trying to install snow leopard from a disk I bought from the Apple store. I am not sure if the disk is the whole OS X or not as it was purchased to upgrade from the OS X that was on the machine. I am hoping to do a time machine backup to get my old programmes/software back afterwards but in the meantime just cannot seem to get snow leopard on my iMac.

I have a unibody Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.3. Everything is up to date but the computer is now on its second hard drive and fresh install of OSX and is still unusable. After the hard drive was replaced, it worked flawlessly for an evening. However, the old symptoms reemerged the next morning. Symptoms: very slow to boot or freezes on gray screen with status circle frozen grey circle with slash through it on boot
once it boots, if it does boot, the beachball constantly spins/freezes... I have literally no software installed on the fresh install and it still does it when attempting to boot in safe mode Also, the hard drive when checked gives the following errors even after I repair them in drive genius (the same errors the old drive reported):

I desperately seek help from the community as Apple itself doesn't seem to care much.After updating to 10.7.4 my Imac has become unusable. It goes into a loading state just about every 10 minutes at which i can do little more than move the mouse around. I know it is the new update causing this (and not the hardware) because i also have a Bootcamp partition which works totally fine. Does anyone have any advice or solutions? Unfortunately i am currently not in the position to reinstall my system. I have no more space on my external HD to back up everything and am not in the position to purchase a new hard drive. And in my opinion, i shouldn't have to resort to such drastic measures because Apple released such a terrible update.

My late 2010 iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 12gb of ram is running very slow. It takes a very long for the computer to boot with the desktop taking ages to fully load. Applications are also taking an unholy amount of time to load with the spinning wheel always appearing through out use, and they often crash or don't respond and close during use. I'm talking applications like Word taking 3 minutes to load and getting the spinning wheel when font size is tried to be changed and crashing and closing if a large volume of text is attempted to be pasted into a document.The computer is also failing to shut down properly just staying on a blue screen. I recently wiped and completed a fresh install however the issues came back.

I have a 20" iMac mid 2007 2.4Ghz, 320GB, 2Gb machine running Snow Leopard. Today I turned it on and it was running fine. But around three hours of using it suddenly froze. I had to force the turn off using the power button. When i turned it back on it took about 4 mins to get to the login screen. Once I logged in the spinning wheel came up and the only think that loaded was the Spotlight sign. This kept happening until about the third time of turning it off and on. When it finally completed login. But it is now extremely slow and it just about freezes when I open more than one application.

However today while listening to music it decided to lock up and freeze for a good minute before it would unlock and continue playing the music through itunes. It did this a few times so I finally decided to restart the computer. The first time I booted it it froze on the apple logo and the loading circle. I killed it and rebooted, it takes about four to five minutes to get to the desktop picture, and another five to pull up the main menu bar. I am going to let it sit over night and see if it gives me any error messages, however; I still haven't seen the dock at all, and ive let it start for about twenty minutes now. It will usually show the top menu bar and then the mouse will give me the sbod while it slowly loads up the top menu bar, and usually the clock is a good few minutes behind.
I have tried a pram zap, draining the power off the board, checking the sata connection, unplugging the power, and I ran a hardware check at start up and it said everything was ok. I am currently typing on my tank of a toshiba laptop that still works after being dropped multiple times and has been heavily used for a good 3 years. The mac has been completely useless is most work situations. Its a refurbished 2.53ghz 4gb ram 9600m 512mb 15" mbp. I am thinking of reformatting it and hoping it works, and then selling it and using the money for a new toshiba or a custom built desktop, because I just cant deal with the amount of money and time I have lost trying to deal with this thing while I could have been getting work done.
My Macbook has begun to run incredibly slow, it's taken me almost an hour to post this. Keep seeing the spinning wheel.
Its been like this for about a week and normally doesn't boot, even in safe mode. Appeared to be a gradual thing, was irritating at first but worsened as I took steps to troubleshoot. Initially cleared browsing history and closed programs, to no avail. I then booted in safe mode and the computer remained slow.
At this point the I was unable to shut down without holding the power key, for about a week I've been turning the macbook on and off into disc utility to try and fix it. When booting normally the progress bar usually gets about halfway and then goes nowhere. At one point I could hear dings (messages from my phone coming through) on the laptop but the startup progress bar was stuck at halfway; almost as if it had successfully booted but wasn't showing me.Â
I've repaired disc/disc permissions and reinstalled OSX. I tried to reinstall OSX a second time and an error came up, disc utility also kept showing my hard drive as unmounted and would take forever to let me click anywhere.Â
After many failed attempts this eventually allowed me to startup, allbeit slowly (after a particularly fast disc repair)Â
My last backup was a while ago and now I've managed to boot up, trying to back up now but this isn't working either.Â

I upgraded to Snow Leopard three weeks ago on my rev B MBA but am thinking about downgrading to Leopard again. Reasons:
- Have not seen any 'improvement' from Snow Leopard
- Battery time is slightly worse(!)
- 'Idle' Temperature is also higher compared to Leopard
So I am curious if anyone has seen improvements when going to Snow Leopard or if you are planning to go back to regular Leopard?
I recently updated my FCPX to 10.1.3 after a couple of weeks away on work, and now upon resuming work on projects I had been working on without any problems before, FCPX becomes unusable - it is slow, refuses to render, ends up hanging up my whole iMac until I eventually manage to force quit FCPX.Â
I have tried deleting preferences on start up of FCPX but this has not worked.Â
I am working on a couple of large corporate pieces on a tight deadline and now I can't so much as change a single title, whereas before I was flying through it.Â

When I quit iTunes the window closes and the glowing dot fades out. Then it comes straight back. Also I thought iTunes was now 64-bit? But Activity Monitor says its 32-bit.

One example is when trying to post image files to places like E-Bay or online forums. When I click "Add image" and select the file to be added, Safari crashes with an error message. The problem is easily repeated. I thought Safari was supposed to be "Crash Proof". I actually have more problems with it now than I did before.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI'v been running Leopard on my wife's MacBook Pro since we got it in May. We have a Canon MF4150 attached to it via USB and have been sharing it out from the Mac. I have been using Bonjour and have been printing just fine from both my XP machine and my daughter's Vista machine. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. I upgraded the drivers to the Snow Leopard compatible drivers from Canon and everything prints fine from the Mac. However, whenever we try to print from one of the Windows machine I get this popup on the Mac: "Canon UFR II Printer Driver key value specified for ticket does not exist.: 15512" And the printer is now "paused" whatever that means. When I try to unpause it, I get that some popup error. I end up having to delete the printer and re-add it to get printing (from the Mac) working again. I've deleted and re-added the printer many times. I even went to far as to remove the drive on the Mac manually (according to Canon's directions) and reinstall. I've deleted/recreated the printers on Windows using the Bonjour wizard.

I'm not the best when it comes to Networks, or even router configuration. I'll just put that out there, in case I've missed something obvious.
My router connection (DLink 2640B) was working perfectly fine before I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now I cannot connect to any wireless network, and I cannot connect to the router administration page, either
(192.168.1.1).
The internet connection still works fine on two other laptops. Also, I can connect this iMac via the ethernet cable.
I've tried deleting the files NetworkInterfaces.plist, com.apple.network.identification.plist, and preferences.plist; I've tried rebooting my router; I've tried creating a new network. Airport sees all the networks, tries to connect, then it just says that it fails.
Upgraded from 10.5.3 to 10.6.8. Now printers HP5550 and HP940c won't print from my MacBook 1.1, purchased on 11.09.06. Went to Gutenprint and downloaded the GIMP and XQuark apps. but they just messed up my system and I trashed them. The HP printers say the drivers cannot be changed. I read in Apple's small brochure that "Snow Leopard makes sure you have the most up-to-date printer driver. If not, it downloads the newest version." This did NOT happed. I also have a MacBook Pro 7,1 and the printers work fine with that.
