My iMac internet has become so slow I tend not to use it much at all. An adjacent PC runs fine so it seems to be a software issue and is relatively recent.

I have an aluminium iMac, 2.4GHz Intel C2D, 2GB RAM, running Leopard. On one account, it runs slowly, with a noticeable delay in doing anything, even menus take a second do to anything once they've been clicked. It has all the updates installed and I've tried repairing the permissions and rebooting already.
Since I've only noticed it on one account, I'm inclined to think it's a corrupted user file or something.

My PPC G4 iMac is slow as hell. I plan on upgrading soon enough to a newer iMac but in the meantime I'd love to recover some speed. I know i have a woefully low amount of RAM - 768 to be exact - but apparently I'm stuck with that. It was running better in the past but with time things just slowed to a crawl with minimal things open - Mail, Safari and maybe Word and Excel. I gave up trying to run PS Elements 3 on this machine. That just makes me want to scoop my eyes out with a spoon.
I run iClean regularly, I have my desktop clear of clutter. What can I do in the interim before I buy the new iMac to help things some? Or am I just S.O.L. and just be patient and wait for the new machine?

My iMac is running slow and sometimes freezes. There shouldn't be a problem with memory (6GB); the backup HD is a 1GB WD and backup is run via Time Machine. Backup seems to run OK but there is an enormous drain on CPU usage and the process takes forever.

I have the 20inch intel imac running leopard. Out of nowhere it started going very slow, spinning wheel every other click. Then just freezes. And now I can't start the computer again. It stops at the grey screen with the apple symbol like its loading but never does. I've tried unplugging the whole thing then again got a blinking question mark folder. I just keep getting different things. A blank white screen.

my imac has been running very slow lately and i don't know why. i'm not a man of great knowledge when it comes to computers and in fact this is my first imac i've ever had. (although i loved until now.....) i need to know what i can do to make it run faster. it seems to only be a problem when i'm on the internet although i could be wrong. (i know it is not just a connection issue because my ipod touch is running off my wireless much faster than my computer.

I am an absolute Mac virgin I have never used one before this is my first experience with them. We bought a imac for our daughter purely for the virus free factor and the computer just looked so good the graphics etc.
Anyway we have had the system now for over a year we all love it and have worked out the basics. My problem is that lately it has become very sluggish and jumps out of Safari a lot, Safari closes unexpectantly. It takes ages for even Word or anything to come up. What can I do to clean it up and make it run faster again. What do I go into.... I need the hows, wheres and whats?

My iMac will be 3 years old Oct 19 2010 and it's running pretty slow. I do a lot of video editing and have 1GB of memory ( I think that's the RAM). I'm pretty sure that's not the right amount of RAM I should have for the things I'm doing but I could be wrong. I have about 5 apps open at once for recreational use and about 2 for video editing, those 2 being Final Cut Pro and iTunes. So would it be my low amount of RAM causing my computer to slow down or another reason?

I have a 27-inch, Mid 2011 running the 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5. I currently have 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 in four slots (4 each).
When I uploaded OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and shortly after uploaded CleanMyMac 2 I started to experience tremendous latency in processing speeds on all applications. Running CleanMyMac 2 multiple times and removing no longer used apps to free up space did little to resolve the issue.

I was talking to a friend last night and he was saying him mom had a 4 year old iMac that she had barely used. Her windows computer died and the local computer shop moved everything to the iMac and when the mom complained the iMac was slow the computer shop told her it had blown caps. To me blown caps wouldn't cause it to run slow, lock up and be unreliable I would believe but not slow. Has anyone had a Mac just run slow because of blown capacitors?

Recently I started suffering pretty bad from color wheel load time where safari was getting glitchy and taking forever to move. I tried to cold start it to see if a refresh would help. Well it white screened, and wouldnt exit the loading screen. I reset the ram memory with alt ctrl p and r; this did nothing. Eventually I kissed all my music projects and logic pro 9 good bye, and reformatted from the boot disc. When I went to use it, I got out of the white screen, but was ridiculously slow.
Thinking maybe I didn't do the partition right, I reformatted again, erased the entire drive, set the partition, and loaded 10.6. Any time I open safari, it gets glitchy, and incredibly slow to the point I cant even restart. I cleared the memory again and this still did nothing. I purchased and installed new ram; still nothing. Coming from windows a reformat usually takes care of things. I have no idea what I can do at this point. Its a 2007 24" 2.4 ghz 2gb RAM.

My late 2010 iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 12gb of ram is running very slow. It takes a very long for the computer to boot with the desktop taking ages to fully load. Applications are also taking an unholy amount of time to load with the spinning wheel always appearing through out use, and they often crash or don't respond and close during use. I'm talking applications like Word taking 3 minutes to load and getting the spinning wheel when font size is tried to be changed and crashing and closing if a large volume of text is attempted to be pasted into a document. The computer is also failing to shut down properly just staying on a blue screen. I recently wiped and completed a fresh install however the issues came back.

I started using my iMac today (not this gen the last gen) and it was fine yesterday but today it has been extremely slow. Its only a year old and now its suddenly taking 30 seconds to open up Finder and Mail and Chrome take a long time to start up. Also I noticed that the 3 buttons (red, orange, and green) at the top left of every window are grayed out.

I have a 20" iMac mid 2007 2.4Ghz, 320GB, 2Gb machine running Snow Leopard. Today I turned it on and it was running fine. But around three hours of using it suddenly froze. I had to force the turn off using the power button. When i turned it back on it took about 4 mins to get to the login screen. Once I logged in the spinning wheel came up and the only think that loaded was the Spotlight sign. This kept happening until about the third time of turning it off and on. When it finally completed login. But it is now extremely slow and it just about freezes when I open more than one application.

Last week I got a malware attack from opening up a Facebook message. This caused my iMac to run very slow and to crash all the time. I ran the latest security update which found and removed the malware itself. But still my iMac is running very slow and crashing when doing two jobs at once.
Any reason as to why?Is it still infected? or has the malware corrupted my hd or memory?
My iMac details:
Version 10.6.8

I have a 2008 MBP with 4gb of RAM. I upgraded via fresh install to Lion and ever since I've had this computer running literally 1/2 the speed it did on Snow Leopard. I've tried Googling and done everything everyone was saying to do but no changes. I also noticed that no matter what I do, when I run disk utility and check permissions it comes back with files that have problems but nothing I do will actually repair them. I'd also like to know if there is any way to turn off the absolutely dumb full screen apps and mission control and launch pad stuff as i'm sure that all the extra graphics requirements has to be hurting my performance a bit. I'm not sure what all the desktop developers have been smoking lately but last I checked a computer was not a phone and trying to mimic the interface is just dumb. There is nothing useful about anything they've done in Lion that I can see. It all looks cool but trying to use it on a daily basis it just stinks. Even the full-screen apps that I though would be cool stinks because it takes longer to swith from one to the other and you loose the top menu while in it which requires extra effort just to see what time it is.

My DSL speed has droped from 3 Mbps (normal) to around .2Mbps. All other Macs on my home network are doing fine, one w. Tiger OS, the other Snow Leopard.
But get this -- when I launch Activity Monitor, DSL speed immediately jumps up to normal. Close A.M. and my DSL speed is back down to almost non-functioning.

Mac started to run slow every now and then, updated to yosemite and now getting worse, slow to open programmes like iPhoto (getting jammed when using), websites and switching between the two. Get a coloured wheel often. More worryingly recently when waking from sleep, the left half of my screen is distorted like an old unturned TV!!
