OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Add New Screensaver
Apr 28, 2012
how do I add new screensaver? I have downloaded one but unable to add it. Screensaver only has options of adding folder and photos, not of adding new screensaver.

Can I have custom set of pix for my screensaver? I can't seem to select the folder of pix like I did for Tiger.

Sometimes when my screensaver kicks in the display never goes to sleep. Instead, the dancing screensaver, which is clearly running, is sucking up CPU and running hot for days. When I finally sit down and move the mouse, the pointer moves but the screen refuses to wake. This is a fairly new iMac, no mods, no programs installed of questionable nature, virtual new sock OEM iMac. Thinking about downgrading to SL as this is one of many problems that I have with Lion (not just on my machine but every Lion box). Has Apple peaked yet? Can we expect nothing but trouble from here on out?

Recently I am having issues with the screensaver setting, it comes on every time I reach the log-in page while booting, and instead of turning on after 'x' minutes of inactivity it just gets turned on after 'x' minutes. Means if I slide it to 5 minutes, I get the screensaver on after 5 mins, be it doing work or watching a movie in it.

The screensaver countdown does not seem to work correctly: if I set it to, say, 5 minutes, then after 5 minutes (irrespective of whether I'm using an attached mouse or keyboard, or the laptop keyboard/ trackpad), then the screensaver will start. Even when actually typing, the screensaver will still cut in for a brief moment before cancelling itself.Â
The only workaround is to turn the screensaver off.Â
This doesn't seem to be a Lion-specific issue - the problem started with Snow Leopard, and has continued now that I've upgraded to Lion.Â

I like music, and I like the iTunes Artwork screensaver as a way to select music randomly. Often, I get to my computer, wake it up from sleep, and it presents me with a typical login screen.Â
Is it possible to have the computer wake up to the iTunes Artwork screensaver, instead of the traditional login screen? Currently, I have a hot corner set to launch the screensaver, so I first login, then launch the screensaver with the hot corner, then select my background music, then I have to login again. Ideally, I would be able to wake up, select some music, login and go!

My Desktop & Screensaver preference pane (Lion 10.7.4) is not storing changes to the "Folders" section.
I added folders under "Folders" and later deleted the folders from my hard drive. The Desktop & Screensaver preference pane turned these folders into "ghost" folders.Â
So now I have several ghost folders under "Folders" in the Desktop tab of my Desktop & Screensaver preference pane. I can highlight each ghost folder and click the "-" button to delete it, but when I relaunch Desktop & Screensaver they return. Also, I can add new folders to the "Folders" section, but when I relaunch Desktop & Screensaver, they aren't there anymore.Â

When my IMac goes to sleep, the screen saver is "frozen". The only way to get to my login accounts is by "cleaning" the screen with my mouse. It's as though the screen is not refreshing itself after going to sleep and whatever the last image was, it stays. However, it's not locked up or anything. I just need to move my mouse around over the login accounts and it slowly clears away the screen saver so I can see where to click to log in. I've tried disabling the screen saver, but have the same results. Something is causing the last image to freeze on the screen when the monitor sleeps.

A key stroke or mouse click won't remove the screensaver. However dragging the mouse across the screen reveals the login screen behind. Any fixes?

When selecting the iTunes Artwork screensaver and running "Test", the screen is Black or Blank (no Artwork). I left it running for over and hour and the artwork never appeared. I have tons of artwork in my iTunes library and checked it after launching iTunes. The preview window for the screensaver is also blank and does *not* say "Your iTunes library does not contain any songs with artwork". As such, I'm suspecting some bug involved here.Â
I have tried the following suggested solutions:Â
- Consolidating / Rebuilding Library from iTunes. Then trying the screensaverÂ
- Launching iTunes while holding "Option" key. Selecting the correct ~/Music/iTunes library again, then trying the screensaverÂ
- Deleting the ~/iTunes/Album Artwork folder. Launching iTunes again. Downloading some album art. Trying the screensaver.Â

I've got my MBP running the iTunes cover art as the screen saver, and to lock the computer when it goes into the screen saver. Every once and awhile, it'll hang when I try to bring it out of the screen saver to put my password in. The screensaver will be playing, then I wiggle the mouse, and the screen goes black, as it does normally followed by the username/password box.
But that box never shows up, just the cursor and a black screen. It's not every single time either, kinda intermittent. I've had to do a hard power down to get out of it, unfortunately. This doesn't cause any file corruption, does it? Anyway I've now set my firewall to allow incoming SSH connections only from my user, so that at least I can SSH into it from my iPod Touch, should it happen again.

I have a MacBook I usually bring to work. My co-workers and michevious and always try to change my background, etc.
I leave on my screensaver password. I close the lid to my laptop to initiate the password protect.
So last night I came back from lunch, open up my MacBook and my co-worker comes next to me, it seems like she put a code, and then unlocked my MacBook.
It's either 1.) She know's my password or 2.) there's a bypass code because she typed something and it unlocked.
Anyone know how to hack it?

Problem :
When i open up "desktop and screensaver" menu, it always open screensaver by default. It is a bit annoying to me, simply because i never use the screensaver.
And i remember a time when Desktop was always the first screen by default.
It pisses me off and i'm seriously thinking of reinstalling Mac OS X...(ok, just kiddin! :P)
Anyway, if someone have a solution to this simple and little thing, i would gave him all my gratitude and even pay him a beer in the afterlife. (You may have to remind me though)

Been having some issues with my iMac where when the screensaver launches, it instantly goes back to the desktop and then launches again, making it look almost as if it's flashing on and off. I used to get this with my old iMac as well.

I am looking for a simple screensaver for my mac. I need something transparent - so I can still see what is going on on my desktop, but have password lock active.
I found transparent 2.2 which does exactly what I want but there is no way I will give 10 for a screensaver.

My late '08 MBP (10.6.2 OSX) seems to be having issues with the screensaver not coming on. I have the screen saver set to come on in 5 minutes (set in preferences) and the display to turn off after 10 yet when I left the room and came back 30 minutes later, the screen was where I left it.
I double checked the settings and tested it out again...no screen saver. If I throw my mouse in one of the hot spots, it will activate the screen saver yet the display won't turn off after 15 minutes.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but it seems on my system if the screensaver runs then the monitor sleeps, the screensaver is still running when i go to wake the monitor. does that mean its been running the whole time wasting cpu cycles and drawing more power than is necessary? you'd think it would stop.

I have enabled the prompt for a password when waking from screensaver and this works fine as long as I respond to the password prompt quickly. However, if I don't respond fairly quickly then the password prompt disappears leaving a black screen with just the mouse pointer visible. No matter what I type I can't bring the password prompt back up and therefore can't gain access. The only way I can do this is to press the power button and wait for 5 minutes or so before bringing it back out of sleep and typing my password more quickly.
The machine is a new iMac 2.4G 24" if that makes any difference. All latest updates applied.

I'm having a really hard time trying to find a nice freeware screensaver that will run in my TiBook with dual displays. I was wondering if anybody here know of a good freeware screensaver that will work with these requirements:
Must run well on TiBook in dual display mode (667MHz G4, 1GB RAM, 16MB Rage 128)
Must be somewhat cool/interesting.
