PowerPC :: Screensaver That Will Run With Dual Display?
Feb 6, 2008
I'm having a really hard time trying to find a nice freeware screensaver that will run in my TiBook with dual displays. I was wondering if anybody here know of a good freeware screensaver that will work with these requirements:
Must run well on TiBook in dual display mode (667MHz G4, 1GB RAM, 16MB Rage 128)
Must be somewhat cool/interesting.

I have an external monitor that I attach to my MBP to watch movies. Is there a way to turn on my screen saver or power down the screen on my MBP when I'm watching a movie on the external display?

I have a 24" ACD plugged into my iMac, and they work well together (other than the ACD needing a boost, but we'll discuss that some other time).
I can't seem to get backgrounds to stick; I set a background on both displays, but whenever the machine wakes up from sleep or a screensaver, it's back to the default nebula/star field of Leopard. When I try to once again set those displays, the folder containing the pics, which had been added to the preferences interface, has disappeared from that pref pane.

I'm a PC guy (unfortunately), and I wanted to get my wife (graphic designer) a Mac present for our 3 year wedding anniversary (maybe a bad choice). As a cheep axx i looked on eBay for best deals... and happen to stumble upon an old G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) Dual 500MHz tower. I understand that is a old model, but the budget constrains gave me a no better choice... $300-400. For the first Apple it is a start. To make it up i got her a 23" Cinema Display. My dilemma as you see is the old vs new technology. I have not yet received the merchandise, but as i read I'm up for a surprise.
1. Do i need a power adapter for the display?
2. Do i need a ADC converter (or something like it)?
3. What (cheep) Graphic card will be a plausible fit to avoid conversions?
4. Will that card work with my motherboard (if there is one inside lol)
So far browsing i got:
Recomendations
RADEON 9800 Series
Requirements: Power Mac G4 or G5 with NVIDIA graphics card or ATI Radeon 7500 or better graphics card Limitations: The Power Mac G4 Cube computer must have a Nvidia Geforce 2MX graphics card to be compatible with the Apple Cinema Display HD or Apple Cinema Display (20-inch). he Power Mac G4 - (Gigabit Ethernet) video card does not support the Apple Cinema Display HD or Apple Cinema Display (20-inch) unless the original video card is updated to one that meets the specification for the display.

I love the iTunes artwork screensaver that comes built in to OSX. Basically, the screensaver is displaying all of my podcast 'album covers', where as I really just want it to show the album covers in my music library. Is there a way to get the screensaver to ignore the podcasts? I was thinking maybe the easiest way to do it would be to move the podcasts folder in my iTunes library to another directory rather than in 'music', but would that mean iTunes would save new podcasts to the new directory or save in the original automatic spot?

My screensaver comes on like it should, or comes on from hot corner, but won't stay on. I've tried a number of things including:
-Trashing the prefs file (Library>ByHost>com.apple.screensaver.....plist)
-Starting from they DVD and fixing permissions and verifying/repairing the startup volume,
-Quitting all applications (I thought it was Time Machine or Chrome, but no)
-Making sure "wake for ethernet" is off.
-Disabling Bluetooth.
It'll stay on for a minute or less, and then stay off. So I'll come back and my display will be on. It also wakes up if I set the display to go to sleep.

I have a question about using dual displays with my new macbook. The basic issue is this:
1: plug in second display and setup dual monitor support to use the external hi-res display and the macbook's display (no problem here).
2: drag windows to the external display and resize to use (no problems here either).
3. Power down and disconnect the external display.
4. Start up the macbook without the external display and try and open up a program that I was using previously on the external display. The problem is that it is resized and positioned for the external display and is now off the screen of my macbook display and I can't directly get to the title bar to move it or the resize corner to resize it.

I just got an iBook g3 used, it had 800mhz, 256 megs of ram, 30 gig, and had osx 10.3.9. I am new to macs, but I particularly wanted an IBook, and I found it used at a good price. I downloaded some software (acquisition) and moved some files over via usb keyboard from a pc. Suddenly, it froze while stuck in screensaver, and I turned the power off. Now, it just stays on a gray screen when booting, and eventually goes black for a second, then reflashes a gray screen. No mouse, no cursor. What do I do?

I have a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5 GB of RAM. My fan starts revving really loud when I am using multiple apps (Adobe CS2, Firefox, iTunes) and while watching a video tutorial or AVI movie (both saved on my desktop). It also happens when I am just watching a AVI movie with no other apps open.
I just added one GB of RAM yesterday thinking maybe this will solve the problem since I am running multiple apps. This did not resolve it. So I searched the messageboard for threads on fan issues similar to mine. I read it may be caused by the tempature in my room. I keep the tower on my floor on top of 2 pieces of wood about a 1/2 inch thick. I live in a small brick studio apartment so the tempature is usaully between 60 to 70 degrees.
I looked into smcfancontrol but it looks like its for laptops only.I also do not have a utilities program for my computer yet. I was wondering what was the best program out there to clean up/tune-up my hard drive so its running at maxium speed.Has anyone had experince with this issue and have any answers? I am concerned this may be very detrimental to my computer in the long run.

I curently have 10.3.9 with a PowerPC G4 dual w/ 1.25 processors and 2 gig of ram. I want the highest upgrade I can get that will be compatibe with my software which is:
Quark 6.5
Acrobat 7.1
Acrobat Distiller 7.0
Illustrator CS1
Photoshop CS1
Microsoft Office (don't know what version but I've had it for years)
I really can't afford to go buy all the software again and I don't want my system to crash. Any suggestions?
This upgrade is mostly spawned due to the recent purchase of a new iPod Nano... Not supported by my current OS! Man, I didn't read the requirements, shame on me. However, the dang thing will work on my kid's PC w/ XP Pro. I only got the Nano cause it's mac - he wanted the Zune that ONLY works w/ PC.

Got my iMac today, working great, but need help on how to hook up a TV to my system. Because my iMac is hooked up to the ACD 24" display, so the extra mini dvi port is occupied by the ACD, so then how do I hook up my 37" LCD TV to the iMac, so I essentially have three monitors hooked up to my iMac.
The ACD plugs into the iMac no problems of course, but my TV will be a different story, it's has two HDMI ports, S video and the 3 rca inputs.
Is there a splitter or something I can buy so I can add the TV to the set up. I've seen photo's here on this forum with 3 even 4 monitors hooked up, but I have no idea how to do it, searched here for a while as well.
Does anyone know exactly what adapters I need to buy to get the TV hooked into my dual monitor system?

I got a 24" iMac (2.93 GHz Core 2 Duo variety) about 6 weeks ago and hooked up my Matrox DualHead2Go to find it wouldn't push the two external monitors to their 2x1680x1050 potential. Ok fine, I got an Arkview USB2 to DVI adapter and had one monitor attached to the inferior DVI port, the second connected to the Arkview adapter and both worked at 1680x1050. Today I updated the box to Snow Leopard to find that neither solution works any longer.
The Arkview adapter simply disappeared. The computer refuses to see it and the console seems to indicate that it tries to talk to the adapter but gets nothing back. My guess is something changed in the way SL talks to drivers which trashed that solution. Then I tried the Matrox again thinking 2880x900 is still better than 1680x1050 and while it sees the Matrox box and sees it as 2880x900, the second monitor never "lights up". Does anyone know of anything that actually works with SL that will let me attach the two external monitors?

I have been running my macbook pro open, with a single monitor running beside it. I have come to the conclusion that I would benefit from two large monitors while working at home.
I know I need to buy the dualhead2go DP edition, but what Im not sure about is the cables I need to hook up to my monitors. I haven't yet decided what two monitors I am going to hook up to it, although they will be exactly the same and have HDMI connections.
What I am planning on doing is Getting the Dual Head 2 go, along with 2 DisplayPort to HDMI converters, and 2 HDMI cables, Correct me if Im wrong, but this should work?
Also, If anyone is currently using a dual head to go, how is the performance? I wont be doing any gaming, so that is not an issue, but for day to day tasks I assume everything will run fine? Im running the 330 in my 15' MBP.

I should be getting my iMac in the next few days and more than likely going to get the 24" ACD, so I can dual display it. I know there is a difference in height, so going to VESA wall mount the ACD. I know the 24" ACD is LED and a slightly different screen to the iMac, the question I have his will I be able to get the screens to look pretty much identical i.e. brightness, colours or will I have to get something to calibrate the screens?

I am soon going to be buying a Macbook Pro to replace my hackintosh and return my hackintosh to a well spec'd windows PC with dual monitors (one of which will also be connected to the MBP.
Which monitor should I go for?
I have been using a Samsung SM2333sw and love it. It is a TN panel, but it is perfectly usable for my needs, however, the bezel it quite thick so doesn't work well as a dual display option.
The only key features is that the monitor needs to be 23/24", have 2 inputs, and have a fairly thin bezel.
I need to be able to get both screens for around 250 each.

When I give presentations, I like to bring my own MacBook Pro so I can get right on it with all my preconfiguration. However I am staggered by the hassle of getting the dual display setting right. Usually when I plug the MacBook Pro into the projector it will give me an unpredictable display setting, and I will usually have to spend some five minutes to configure it correctly before I can launch into the presentation.
In situations when I am only allotted something like ten minutes this eats up my precious time in a big way. A valid solution is to rehearse with the projector and refrain from plugging anything into the computer between then and the presentation, but often times I have no control over what projector I will be using until the last minute.
My question is, then, is there any way I can preconfigure the display setting (two independent displays, with the desktop set to my monitor's native resolution, the VGA to 1024*768, with the laptop monitor being the primary display) that I can plug in the projector and begin immediately?

I've been having a nightmare getting WIndows 7 to work properly with the second display on my MBP 15" (Early 2011) i7.
I'm currently running Lion 10.7.4 which works fine on both the internal laptop panel and the external AOC monitor through a Thunderbolt -> VGA Apple Adapter.
Bootcamp installed Windows 7-x64 with no issues, but when it came to trying to get the second monitor fired up it wouldnt.
I noticed when I installed WIndows and when I boot into it, that the screens mirror one another, I take it this is the Intel GPU running. I'll explain why in a bit.
1) I updated all the bootcamp files through Apple Update, no change
2) WHen I extend the displays, Windows sees the display, make and model without any issues, but it gets no signal
3) I then manually removed the ATI Radeon HD6xxx drivers manually, rebooted and both displays mirrored again throught a 'standard VGA adapter', this is why I assume this is the Intel kicking in.
4) I downloaded the latest ATI Drivers... ATI Mac Drivers -> Bootcamp -> Macbook Pro
5) Rebooted, and still stuck at step one now...

Mac OS X (10.7.4)

i have 2 LCD's hooked to the new Mini as such:
1 going mini display port to DVI adapter to DVI on 19" Monitor (standard monitor)
1 going mini DVI to DVI adapter to a DVI to HDMI on 52" LCD (Samsung TV)
i just sold me iMac and switched to the Mini not only to be able to hide the Mini which i couldn't do with the iMac but also when i watch a movie full screen on the 52 i was never able to turn off the iMac monitor and would have to cover it with a towel so that it was dark in the room except for the 52 showing the movie.
my thought was that with 2 monitors separately hooked up to the Mini that i could solve the turning off the second monitor problem as they would now both have power buttons. besides making it dark in the room i also like to have the monitor off and so that i can have Plex on the 52 always in full screen mode so my wife can just hit "Watch Plex" on the logitech remote and the TV and Stereo switch to the proper inputs and away she goes to watch whatever without having to touch the computer which when both monitors are on works perfectly.

For the past few months i have been using an external display hooked up to my 12" powerbook g4. I have had it on a dual display mode so no mirroring. Recently i would open the laptop lid waking it from being in sleep mode and my internal display will not turn on. The apply system profiler does not even recognize that the internal display exists. My external display works fine and has always been set as the main display. If i go to detect displays nothign happens. I have tried restarting the computer, instering system disks, unplugging the external and nothing has worked. I simply cannot get my internal screen to fire back up. When i used to unplug my external display the internal display would switch back to being the main display and everything would be fine. Now i cannot get the internal display to function whatsoever. Please try and help me as a need this laptop working and i will be ordering a mac pro soon for use with my external display.

I am looking for a display to use with my Powerbook G4 12". I am in love with the 30" cinema display, but according to technical support today, my setup is not compatible (supposedly, but the person on the phone didn't sound to sure). I have a mini DVI, but the 30" requires a dual DVI. I think the 23" display requires DVI, which I can attain with an adapter. Does anyone have suggestions for what I can use with my computer? The bigger the better for me. Also what do you think of the older (plastic case) apple displays?

I have an issue with my 4870 (Mac edition) that has been occurring since day one (when I purchased it last month), but it's not something that happens every single time.
I've run into a problem that the 4870 has trouble recognizing one or both monitors plugged in. If I shut off power to my displayport-connected main monitor, it'll throw the menu bar, all the desktop items, and application windows onto the second monitor (DVI-connected). This also happens when I shut off the second monitor (desktop items and app windows get shuffled to the main monitor).
The other issue is that on startup, it may just be slow to recognize one of them, and the above screen-swapping issues happen anyway, followed seconds later by the screen once again being recognized.
Has anybody else faced this issue? Is there something that can be done? This shouldn't be happening, right?

6 weeks ago I bought a Mac Pro Dual Quad 2,66 with an ATI HD 4870 graphic adapter. System is OS X 10.5.7. I try to get an Eizo 30" display (SX 3031W) working with this configuration. Using the signal connector #1 on the Eizo , the display will show up to 2560x1600 resolution (as it should be) but after selecting this option will fall back to 1600x1200 pixel. I tried installing on the DVI plug of the card and also on the minidisplay-port using the "Mini Displayport to Dual Link DVI adapter" from Apple but up to now it does not work.
