OS X :: IChat Status Set As Away When Screensaver Enabled
Nov 11, 2010
I have a hot corner set up on my computer so when I place my mouse in the top left corner, my computer goes to its screensaver. However, when I do this, my ichat status automatically goes to "Away". How can I make it so I stay "Available" so it looks like I'm still online?
I can't see my buddy on iChat, after he/she accepts my request for video chat. What could be the issue? I just started using iChat for the first time and now have the issue of not being able to see my buddy on video chat. My buddy states the same thing, not being able to see me. I check the "Video" tab on the tool bar, ensuring that all items (microphone, camera, etc.) were enabled, and they all were.
iChat was updated to 4.0.8 in 10.5.7 and I have a question regarding that. I searched and could not find any information. In 4.0.7, when I restart iChat it would log me in the status I quit the application in (say idle with my status text). Now in 4.0.8 when I open the App it always signs me in Available mode. Do you guys see this too? Is there a away to change this? I have chax and growl iChat installed, does it have anything to do with it?
I use iChat for Gtalk and AIM and so far I love it, except when I change my status to Away (red dot), it appears as idle (orange dot) to my Gtalk friends. I had a couple people wondering how my status was idle while we were chatting. Is there a fix to this?
Switching to another app like Adium is not an option.
Does anyone know how to get rid of all those status messages in iChat? Since installing Snow Leopard, there are a bunch of them. I could care less about people knowing I'm surfing the web, reading email, on the phone, etc. I prefer just "Available" and "Away" as those tell if I can chat or not.
I've tried:
- deleting all the status messages from the buddy list (no longer appear in the status message drop down menu of the buddy list, but still appear when you click the balloon icon in the menu bar)
- deleting all the .plist files to reset iChat (no luck)
So every time I finish watching a movie or TV show on computer and begin using my mouse/keyboard, I get an iChat alert asking if it wants to change my status back to "Available". How come iChat is automatically setting my status as Away and how do I make it so it doesn't do this anymore.
My iChat refuses to open. Every time I click on it to open it it will not open at all and a window will come up saying "The application iChat quit unexpectedly". How can i get my iChat to open and is someone or something hacking into my computer?
I was away from my computer for a day and when I returned I had an IM from a Screen Name that has been harassing me for a couple of months. They keep trying to video chat me or IM me, but I never answer. When I returned to my computer this morning, there was an IM that I opened and was finally going to say something to the person, but when I opened it, there was a couple of messages saying that they have downloaded all of my information and passwords and files. I am going to attach a photo so you can see. It looks a little fishy. I called Apple and they have never seen it. There are no articles about anything like it on google. The persons SN is bolded which is odd since usually when iChat tells you if someone has signed off or on, the SN is not in bold. Also iChat never gives warning messages like these. I feel like it is some script for iChat that someone started using. If not and someone has in fact hacked my system, which I don't believe someone can do through iChat, can someone let me know what to do. Also if they hacked my system some other way, I don't see why iChat would warn me about it and not something else in the computer.
unable to initiate video Ichat session. 2 1.xx mhz imacs (powerPC), 10.4.11, both imacs cabled, firewall disabled, all updates on both imacs applied. qtime prefs set to intranet/lan and ichat prefs set to 1mb.
how I know if Java is enabled on my Mac? I'm getting confused as some of the programs I've bought need Java to be running, but information on the Java Tester Website indicates it is not necessarily encouraged by Apple. Copy of information from Java Tester Website below: "April 3, 2012Important security updates issued. See More than 600,000 Macs infected with Flashback botnet andJava update for OS X patches Flashback malware exploit. Mac users running OS X 10.5 Leopard should not use Java, because Apple has stopped supporting Java on Leopard. The last version of Java for OS X 10.5 has known bugs that will not be fixed. Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 7 updates Java to 1.6.0_31Java for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion 2012-001 updates Java to v1.6.0_31"
I don't know what to do here. Do I not install Java - assuming it isn't already installed (and that raises another question, how do I find out if it is installed?) It seems that not having it installed is affecting the ability of certain programs to run on my Mac, so is there an alternative program I could use? My Mac is OS X Version 10.7.4.
if i connect an Airport Extreme Base Station to an emac (via a cable) is that the same as adding an airport extreme card?
OR
if i buy the emac an airport extreme card will i be able to connect to my ibook (soon to be imac) to use the ibooks internet connection? (without having to buy a base station).
i've not dealt with wireless network (obviously) and i'm really not sure what is required to get a network setup.
So it was my understanding that all the mac pro motherboards have supported SLI, only that it does not work under OSX. Do you need to have special SLI enabled nvidia cards or would the stock 120GTs work? ie, if you were to purchase it with 4 120GTs would they all work using SLI under windows? Just throwing it out there as I a) don't have the cash to buy 4 and b) I much rather have a fast 4870 that works in both mac and windows.
I really like wallpapers. I have probably several hundred at this point. There are so many I can't pick one, and have the random wallpaper feature enabled. My pictures are arranged simply by their content. I used to have the wallpaper worthy ones on their own, but that got to be a mess. So the wallpaper worthy ones are mixed in with ones that are just plain the wrong dimensions. That makes the shuffle feature hard to use. So I thought of using a smart folder..except you apparently cannot add a smart folder to the wallpaper pref pane.
Well, iPhoto is too much of a pain in the butt for this, although it does the job. So is copying to a dedicated folder. I want them stored on the disk ONCE, in their original folders! My next plan was to use the smart folder to make it easy to get them all in one place anytime, so that I could do a select all followed by a cmd+option-drag to get aliases to ALL of them into a dedicated wallpapers folder. That seems to be working. The wallpaper pref pane WILL see a pile of aliases as the originals wherever they amy be. (I now have to add the word "wallpaper" to most of my wallpaper's spotlight comments to make this work. Automator time).
Ok, method sucessful! If anyone else wants to use the method I described in my second paragraph (pros include the images are properly sorted AND available as a collection for the wallpaper pref pane, without using iPhoto or the files actually getting stored in more than one place on disk)....well, this simple little Service will help. It will add a space followed by the word "wallpaper" to the end of the spotlight comments field in any and all files it's fed. This allows you to easily batch-tag your wallpapers for Spotlight, which makes accessing them, and getting the pile of aliases for the pref pane easy to do.
I'm installing mew new MBP and installed Growl. In the growl preferences, I see that only Firefox is listed even though I have Adium and lot of other Apps that support growl installed. How can I add them?
I had this message and when reading tutorials, have realized that the problem is iSync that is already copied to the Applications folder but still, when I try to open it shows this "SyncServices: cannot connect to the sync server NSInvalidReceivePortException: connection went invalid while waiting for a reply ((null))"
When I'm trying to turn on Mail/Notes sync on my macbook a have this:Mail/Notes can't be enabled at this time.Wait a moment and then try turning on Mail again.on my iPhone all is ok.Photo stream, Calendar, Contacts is syncing on mac, but not mail & notes.
My Mail icon just wound not work when i clicked on it. Opened up in safe boot mode and it fixed itself. But then 'connection logging enabled' appeared on the Mail tool bar. Mail works okay, but what does this the strange sentence mean?I use Mavericks, and my macbook pro is mid-2010.
I recently bought an LG HD Recorder. After the purchase, I only then realised that it is only connectable to PC via a software called "Nero Media Home 4 Essentials". Therefore this software cannot be used on a Mac. I wrote to LG and theyconfirmed that it is only for PC and they do not intend to issue one that is to be used for Mac. It would be awesome to be able to connect Mac with the HD Recorder, as I can then stream music from iTunes etc. As such I am not able to fully use this incredible piece of equipment.
Ok so i installed new software onto my mac then it told me to restart so i did. When it ran up again it gave me the log in screen so I logged in and typed my password in. Then it just gives me the default background and a cursor. I can log in on my other two accounts but all of my data is on the account I cant log in on! I have got Filevault enabled if that could be the problem??
I've got a late 2006 MacBook Pro and installed the Wireless N enabler a while back. I've got Snow Leopard now, and the card still reads as N capable in both Network Utility and System Profiler. I've sometimes been able to connect at N speeds, but not always. For example, right now I'm on my office's wireless network. Another guy has a MacBook Pro (a year newer than mine so it shipped with N enabled), but I can only get 54 speeds, while he can get 130. Any ideas? Could it just be a router setting? I option+clicked on the AirPort menu item and took a screenshot. My coworker is also on Channel 6, at 2.4GHz
Ok so within the last day my internet sharing has been working fine, it just won't let incoming devices connect to it. I.E. my Ipod Touch sees my MacBook Pro, but doesn't get an IP I believe, same case with my iPhone because it tries to use the Wifi, but since it can't properly connect either, it switches to 3G. If I disable the Firewall, everything works as it should, so the Firewall is definitely the problem. What I am stuck on is how to configure it properly so that I can use internet sharing, while having the firewall enabled. I haven't even touched anything related to the Firewall in months, so the fact that this just randomly happened is beyond me. I have even made sure that the internet sharing program in the firewall list has the "Allow incoming connections" toggle selected. I haven't touched the box that says "Allow signed software to receive incoming connections," but that box has always been enabled for months. I can't remember now, but I think initially when I came up with the idea that Firewall was causing problems, I noticed that the internet sharing program in the firewall config list actually had the "Block incoming connections" toggle selected. I thought allowing incoming connections would surely fix this, but I guess not.
